    Mazda has changed the suspension and transmission of the CX-60, which partially address the criticisms raised in this comparison. We've tested the upgraded car. Watch here: czcams.com/video/VbuddI3tJIE/video.html

    I got the CX-60 in summer 2022 in Portugal. They did two recalls as well as four new dumpers and extra insulation on the doors. The improvement was substancial.l. Still I believe the Lexus would still come on top. Anyway during the 25K I drove the car I had no glitches or any kind of issues. Is really fun to drive with the 4WD in sandy places, traction control is really good. Mine is a PHEV and charge at home. Occasionally I need some gas.I hope Mazda can refine the suspension and transmission a little bit more. As I am coming from a VW Tiguan this is luxury for me.

    After we filmed this video, Mazda announced that owners of early CX-60 examples could visit their dealer for a free suspension and transmission calibration upgrade. We *will* be testing that upgrade later this month, though we have reason to believe the upgrades are reasonably minor at this stage. I think the main take away from here is that LEXUS is $27k more expensive than Mazda. Considering a massive price difference and a very small difference in dynamics Mazda is actually not bad. Also, if we compare apples to apples it would have been better to compare turbo 4 popper to a same drivetrain on a Mazda and compare fuel economy. I would say 2nd iteration of Mazda CX60 should be considered. 27k is a huge difference imo.

    Nice review, Tom, as always. Your analysis is spot on. Driven both cars and I can say this the Lexus comes out on top everytime. I was a bit disappointed with road handling of the Mazda and the gear box needs a bit of work too. Road noise cancellation is superb on the Lexus. However, personally, the interior layouts on the Mazda premium range, Takumi, with light interiors is a bit more appealing with a simplistic layout. Lexus, we miss our beige interiors. Lastly, once you drive and own a Lexus, other cars just seem to fall short. Trust me, whenever you drive a Lexus it always manages to put a smile on the face.

    The intriguing question is as you said how did Mazda let this onto the market because it begs the question what else have they let through that could take longer to show up and does not appear on a test drive or even over several months. I know Car Care Nut has big concerns about the design of the inline six which will require removal of the entire engine to fix a number of problems which don’t normally require that e.g. with the timing chain being at the rear of the engine you need to take the engine out to get to it ( NB his youtube is referring to the new cx-90 and I am assuming it is the same inline six but his vid is very detailed and interesting)

      @@chasingcarsCX-60 is closer to the NX in size than the RX, especially in terms of the interior space. Most of the extra length of the CX-60 when compared to the NX is due to the engine being longitudinally mounted, requiring more length for the same interior space.

      @chasingcars  Před měsícem

      I’m not really agreeing. Lexus deliberately sizes their SUVs to sit between the traditional German classes, so it’s always a judgment call (and I’ve made mine). NX feels and drives like the smaller, narrower vehicle it is - not like a BMW X3 (or a Mazda CX-60). Even so, I’d say the NX would have carried the win all the same as it’s ultimately similar to the RX in basic handling characteristics. Second, to suggest the CX-70 is somehow the direct rival to RX when it’s 220mm longer makes less sense than criticising the suggestion the CX-60 is the wrong competitor at a 150mm length difference. The fact is simple: Lexus doesn’t use traditional sizing. We have to work around that.

    I believe the comparison is off. It should be the CX-60 with the NX as the same category. In some comments below people argued that the CX-60 is wider than the NX and therefore the comparison with the RX, but..., with that standard we couldn't criticize interior size with the RX being "more spacious" because the RX was meant to be be bigger, in a bigger category. We have to remember the CX-60 is somewhat a newer, revised, updated version of a CX-5, which without a doubt is a spectacular car.

      @@Seriously140 a CX-60 is the modernized 7 year old and ongoing design of the CX-5. Is intended to be in that category. Mazda might try to sell it as an upscale design in their view to go more premium, and the fact that the CX-5 sells so well for them, at least in the USA, that it still makes sense to keep it, but still, is that same category. Sizes of cars have been increasing a little through out last years, every brand has done that, so saying it’s a bit bigger that the CX-5 doesn’t mean is not the same category. Most brands have size up a bit in their latest model years. Most people understand this and know the CX-60 is intended to compete in the same category of the NX, NOT the RX, that would be the CX-80 in that case.
