The time is right for this, because everything done since us white men moved in, everything is being erased. Im for using both names because there is a Cherokee history and a history that came after. What Clingman did was nothing short of amazing by estimating the height, and when modern techniques were developed he was only six feet off. And not only that, once the park moved in they put place names everywhere that the CCC had not. I see that even though this is Cherokee, it is ignoring the nations that the Cherokee overcame and made alliances with such as the Creek, the Choctaw and the really unusual Chickasaw. But when you think about it, the coming of the white man was just one more of a long series of conquests. Too many people think the nations were at peace and never warred or conquered each other. So look past the Cherokee, why don't you? Just because those people are no more, why stop part way through the history?
Yes, all ppl born in the Americas are American. However the honor and privilege of the first footprints on the Great continent of the Americas, is already occupied by the REAL Indigenous of the Americas. There are millions who feel very American, as they should, without being culture vultures. A group of USA Blacks say they have the "right" to be reclassified as the Indigenous of the Americas. They have the Democratic party behind this movement. The Democratic party is salivating to give the Natives, Mexicans and South Americans the final blow! They got behind this movement like gangbusters! The Democratic party NEVER defends us for anything. Instead they will jump on the bandwagon and kick us. The Native ppl on the Rez, Mexicans, and Latinos have no business voting for the Democrats! There is no future for us with the Dems. Our future is erasure. I'm voting for RFK even if I have to write him in! Just can't bring myself to vote for Democrats or GOP. Both parties are awful and don't do much. The GOP isn't the answer. The GOP isn't going to do anything for the Native communities. These 2 parties wink at each other. We are still trapped in a 2 party system. We are not "allowed" to hear other parties visions and agenda. The current president has the Nation more racially and socially divided than ever. The other is a felon who started a riot in the Capital and definitely has a great distain for the Native and Latinos. We have gotten so low in our choices for President. I'm voting for RFK, at least I will feel like my vote has a purpose. It's time for the citizens to send a message!

To me a native American this is ridiculous yes us natives were done poorly for sure but natives took other native land all the time this is reality! They had slaves to other native or black slaves so yes they were treated poorly just like they treated other people they were taking those people land from as a native I can't help but feel for native people but lets tell the whole story and not try changing something that's been called that for 200 years or so if you want to call it something different then just do that
You know, why not turn the name back to the entire mountain range from Maine to Mississippi and lose the name Appalachians. The Appalachians were a single group of Indians (native Americans/Indiginious tribes/ they/them/LBGTYWXZ ) not in the Appalachians and the mountains had many names depending on which area you are looking at. The Great Smokies were the Iron Mountains before they were called the Great Smokies. Give them any name you want. Like maybe the Maybe Mountains. Or "The Tiny Mountains Compared to the Rocky Mountains!"
