      I don’t think anyone wants to see my T’s or my A so we’ll have to just try to make a fun video 😂. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼

    Older diesels generally put out white smoke. My Volvo does it, but I know why? One of my injectors oversprays fuel, and I get unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust, and I need to have them replaced or rebuilt at a shop. Another confusion sometimes is that white smoke can be confused with steam. Keep an eye on if you're burning any oil. The compression sounds good on your engine. If you get some free time, maybe clean your heat exchanger. Catalina mainly put in Universal diesels during that era and generally good engines.

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the advice. I have a Yanmar 2GM-20 that is raw water cooled. No heat exchanger. It seemed fine for the rest of the way home but I’ll definitely keep an eye on both the oil and the smoke. Cheers!

    Love the jetboil … I thought it was gimmicky , but bit the bullet splurged on it, and it’s clutch. I’m in dana and gave up my rental pad to live outta my tacoma. Got the Renogy inverter, 100ah bat, solar running the dc dc 50amp . I’m actually needing to switch chargers now I think . Ultimately though I think either getting a boat learning to sail or something

    13:14 - that makes sense. it looks like a pretty cool morning, i mean you're wearing a sweater and beanie.
    think of the exhaust on a well maintained car. on warm days you shouldn't see any exhaust unless it's a very old vehicle or it runs on diesel, but on a cold day you can easily see the exhaust.
    and since your average boat engine is basically the same as what you would find in a car or truck, i would assume the same type of thing would happen.
    but ya, i would definitely have been a bit worried at first like you were just cuz "oh no smoke!"

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem +1

      Ya man, you nailed it…like an old car engine right? It’s the same thing! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    "quick before someone sees"
    i've seen that happen hundreds of times, but never boat to boat lol

    Can I suggest, after the fact, that when you raised the main would have been a good time to check that your reefing all worked and lines were all free. How many reefs do you have just out of interest?

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem

      Thanks but my reef lines were free and worked fine. Nothing was really wrong with them other than I wanted a longer line to lead to the cockpit. I have two reef points.

    Now that's something I've never seen before, a floating Tiki Bar with an outboard, absolutely brilliant. Do you have a temperature gauge Andy? It's a good thing to have for the engine. Fun trip on a misty day.

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem

      I know right? A floating bar with an outboard. 😂 As for temperature, I only have a dummy light with a loud beep alarm thingy.

    • @bobbrown9158
      @bobbrown9158 Před rokem +1

      @@sailingsole I've seen those idiot lights before and they alarm you just before your engine blows up. I believe they make a kit temperature gauge and sensor. This would allow you to monitor your normal temp. and lets you know if you have a clog in the water intake. For instance, if your normal temp is 190 degrees and you see it climb to 220, you know you have a problem.

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem

      @@bobbrown9158 Thanks Bob. Ya, I’m sure there is a kit and I will look into it to see if it is reasonable. This little boat costs a lot to keep up and maintain but temp is pretty important so maybe I should give it more consideration. 👍🏼

    If you wanted to use your electric motor, battery, and panel, would this have been easily doable or would it have been risky regarding distance? How big is your Dinghey?

    • @sailingsole
      @sailingsole  Před rokem +1

      The trolling motor setup on my dinghy is great for marina cruises and ship to shore. I need a bigger battery for longer hauls. Lido Isle to the Turning Basin in Newport would be too far for me to trust my setup without a larger battery. It could do it no problem (slowly) with a larger battery.
