    Wow *finally* a tutorial that shows not only how to do it manually (with a good description to boot), but then one that answers all my questions about how to utilise MBR Colour Corrector III in my workflow... thank you so much! I would've never thought about exporting it as a LUT and then importing that back in.

    Best walk-through out there for manual and MBR methods with the colorchecker. Nice job!

    Superb clip - exactly what I was looking for, Derek. I'm very happy with just the 'basic use' using an opacity mask on the 6 colour chips. Thanks for making this.

    Thanks for pointing out the LUT part. I had learned about this tool a while back but didn't know that the purchase got you the Export LUT part, which does WONDERS for reducing render time.
    Btw, I completely agree, this is an amazing tool that saves a TON of time (and probably does a better job than I would anyway). Totally worth the purchase.
    TBH, I was surprised that this wasn't a built-in feature of Premiere, but I'm just happy that I have a solution now ;)

    • @MakeMediaStudios
      @MakeMediaStudios  Před 4 lety +1

      It does help out a ton with render times and Yes I would love to see a built in integration in premiere pro. I belove DaVinci has it, maybe one day. Thanks for checking out my channel.

    Thanks for this video. I've heard of this color checker before but I'm somewhat hesitant to use it. Just to clarify, so you always take a shot of the color checker every new scene, right? Sorry not sure if you've mentioned this in the video. Will this also work with Cine4? Thanks.

  • @TonyBabarino
    @TonyBabarino Před 3 lety +2

    Wait....so all you did with the MBR was install it, then use it by "finding the card", export the LUT (paid version), then apply to every clip shot in the same light set-up? You did not have to click on White Balance eye dropper, or tweak the colors in the Vector Scope? The MBR cuts all of that work out? Or..? Thanks.

    • @MakeMediaStudios
      @MakeMediaStudios  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep. I tweet exposure as needed, but using the color card and exported out the lut corrects everything else.

    Great video, thanks a lot. What would be the color editing workflow if you shoot with Canon clog? Canon provides a series of LUTs to convert the flat footage in post. Do I still need the Spyder Checker 24 and the MBR software to do the color correction, despite that I have shooted using log?

    • @MakeMediaStudios
      @MakeMediaStudios  Před 3 lety

      I would still use the color card, then use the MBR software and create a lut. I would not use the Canon lut on top of the lut you created.

    • @SebastianAngeloPerez
      @SebastianAngeloPerez Před 3 lety

      @@MakeMediaStudios thanks again!!! I've tried both ways, exporting a LUT with the MBR software (upload to Lumetri Color, of course) and then I've added an extra Lumetri Color to add the Canon Lut. It works fine in some way but I felt I didin't have too much chance to do color grading as I wanted. I endend up feeling as if the 2 Luts where deciding the outcome of the color grading. I definitely prefer your suggestion. Just using a color card and the MBR software give you the chance to do the color grading as you want, from scratch. You get a good base to adjust further the highlights, shadows,. curves, etc.

  • @EvanFotis

    5:08 No that's incorrect, those 6 patches on the Spyderchecker does not and should not be lining up with the video vectorscope. The checker was produced for photograph only, the reference hues are different from the standard on the vectorscope.

      @@storewx3254 3D LUT Creator has it in its color matching grid selection, I believe that was the factory reference data. People also measured them on their own using a spectrophotometer, you can find one in ArgyllCMS, they have one in the reference folder.

    • @MakeMediaStudios
      @MakeMediaStudios  Před 3 lety

      It comes with a black sleeve for storage and I keep that inside the original box which is quite small. I’m guessing it’s a good idea not to leave it out in direct sunlight.
