    I started with a jelly roll but didn’t have enough colors, went and bought more material and I have an AccuQuilt dye that I used to cut all my strips. When I got to sewing I found out that my jelly roll is like yours and wider than my 2 1/2 inch strips that I cut on the AccuQuilt die 🤦‍♀️ I’m glad I found your tutorial so I know in advance how to fix what was probably going to turn into a nightmare for me. Thank you very much❤️

    depending on the jelly roll manufacture, the 2½" will either measure from the inside or outside of the crimped edges. it is best practice to measure a strip or two to see which one you are dealing with so you can measure your ¼" appropriately from the correct landmark.

    Thank you for the fantastic tutorial. I’m a starcher and I starched my jelly rolls. The length should only have shrunk. Which shouldn’t be a problem. But after watching this tutorial I’m going to have to measure my width. Jelly rolls not being 2 1/2” sort of defeats the reason for purchasing a jelly roll. Oh well…. Great job of figuring out a solution.

    Great video Liz and way to keep it real with the unexpected measurement issue. If I thought it through correctly, the cut width of the strip tube should be the same width as the jelly roll strip (i.e. 2 5/8”) for the larger block to come out square. Hope that makes sense and that others starting this quilt find it helpful. Regardless, your quilt is going to be adorable!

    • @elizabethanncanstitch

    I feel your pain with the jelly roll being cut incorrectly. That is something I would have never thought to check. Until now. Thanks for sharing your discovery. I am impressed by how well your seams match up with the amount of pining you do. I feel like I have to pin each intersection for my squares to match. I have better luck when i press my seams to one side and then can nest the intersections. But on the other hand, pressing the seams open provide for flatter intersections. It is so interesting to hear the different techniques people use. Thanks for sharing.

    I have had this happen before with jelly rolls. I feel the pain. Since most jelly rolls are pinked would u have measured the widths by the tips or the trough . Can’t believe that jelly rolls would have different widths, but in my past experience they do! Btw for straight cut jelly rolls check out jordan fabrics. I believe they cut rolls themselves, and not pinked.

  • @rebeccasewing
    @rebeccasewing Před rokem +1

    Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of precuts for that exact reason. The only thing that I get out of them is the variety of fabrics. In terms of saving time I don't think they do the job. I have an Etsy shop where I sell project bags, mostly pieced and quilted. I have to cut down every precut I use otherwise I have a difficult time piecing them together and getting them to line up. With today's technology you would think the manufacturers could get it right. I guess the other option would be to sub-cut to the same size as the width of the jelly roll. Of course that would only work if there is enough length to the strips.

    • @elizabethanncanstitch
      @elizabethanncanstitch  Před rokem

      Yup! If I had measured the jelly roll first my first step would've been to adjust my seam allowance OR cut 2 5/8 strips from my tube if i had enough, but oh well!
