    Superb, just got one of these yesterday. It still has the original strap at 37 years old. I already have the previous model, the 2004 DW-5200 one. Slightly different features and interestingly it’s 2 grammes heavier! I’m chuffed to bits with it.

      Love hearing that!! Mine started falling apart from age, I removed the resin and screws and sent it to Casio last year for a refresh. They replaced the battery, o rings, and seals, put new resin in, it is like brand new.

    Thank you for the review. I got my ol’scool DW5700 with the 901 in the post today, love the 5600 and 5700(5400) series so much. I had never one in my younger days, because of my Marlin from 1982. I saw a few Jubilee screwbacs but as a real thing I wanted the C model.

    I adore my DW-5600c and that timer has the AUTO option that should've been continued through all G-Shocks... pressing the backlight switches it on/off... great watch and these batteries last 10yrs minimum and probably more if not wearing it daily :)
    Cheers :)

      These originals are just bullet proof perfect examples of the best of design. I really appreciate the improvements they have made over time with their steel releases.

    One more wrinkle on this watch is that the 691 module I have the year date goes from 85 to 29 to automatically keep the weekday straight including leap years. Entering the year shows up on initial set up but doesn't display normally. It's where the 2 character day of the week appears. After 2029 would be necessary to pick a previous year where the days of the week coincide. That information is searchable on the Internet.

    • @DougFNJ
      @DougFNJ  Před 3 lety

      I think the newer ones are out to 2089 now lol. A funny limitation.

    • @Thomas-fl2jn
      @Thomas-fl2jn Před 8 měsíci

      Me too got the 901 module.

    • @Mike-kc8rl
      @Mike-kc8rl Před 5 měsíci

      The date is not a big issue as calendars repeat every 28 years! Modules 691 and 901 are pretty much the same except the use a different battery the 901 uses the common 2016 3v. The older 691 is I think, 2320 3v! And from experience lasts longer on the newer ones ? I believe the back light, such as it, is different colour also ! The biggest problem owning these classics now is the availability of spares . Bezels are only aftermarket, and although bands can be obtained at a premium price, are thirty plus years old and have become hard even in the sealed packets!
      The o ring seals can still be found at reasonable prices as I believe they fit other models as well.And good luck trying to obtain bezel screws ?
      I don't understand why spares are not sold by Casio as they clearly have them as they at a price will refurbish your old watch if you send it to them!

  • @notafanofbusesoranyothertr513

    I am quite upset that you have this watch and dont remember the year speed came out! Just poking fun at ya. Speed has been my fav movie since I saw it in theaters at 8 yrs old. I repair watches for a local thrift store and a DW-5600 691 version Japan H showed up in a batch of fixer uppers. It was on a black mesh and velcro tactical watchband strap with a flap that could be pulled over the top or velcroed behind the wrist for viewing. It could be ex-military. NASA also used these watches. The watch and strap was in soiled condition so I cleaned and disassembled. The plastic bezel cover crumbled from age revealing the T2 metal endoskeleton bezel beneath. It takes a CR2023 battery but I substituted something the same thickness but smaller diameter until I can get the proper battery. The light worked but the display wouldn't function until I carefully and lightly rubbed the inside of the case where the 2 prong contacts and 1 spring touch. After that, it's working like a champ. One caution though when reinserting the module it could be necessary to push the pushers out from the inside with a thin probe, otherwise the module could catch on insertion. Don't force it down. I now know why it's called a G-Shock. The module and the back are surrounded with rubber as a shock absorber. Replacement plastic bezel covers are all but impossible to find. Some people have gone into business making them with various degrees of quality and accuracy. I did come across someone in Canada that does an excellent job on the watchuseek forum (electric0ant). I also saw a reference to modifying a DW-5600E bezel to grind the ridge underneath away with a dremmel tool until it fits. This one is going in my collection and that's the sauce I get for fixing watches at the thrift store. Thanks for posting this. I had no idea about the alarms. Searching the web, I did find a brief owners manual in English and another one in German.

    I've got two 5600c's. One has the older 691 module. With the 691 module I can't set the month or date in alarm mode. It just scrolls to the hour or minute. Seems like the 901 module they added the day and month to the settings. My 901 module also has a green light instead of the white light.
