  • Hello and welcome! Today we will be looking at a modified Casio G-Shock DW-5600E/C with negative display watch.
I modified this watch myself sometime around 2010. Enjoy the video as I show what I did to make this watch so special.

The 3229 module has a small spring that is supposed to contact the speaker on the inside of the case back. The 691 / 901 modules do not have this, as the speaker is within the module itself, so there will be no beeps.

There is no sound coming out of that modified one, because the little speaker is attached to the the inner front face of the case. This is opposite to the beeper being stuck on the caseback of the 5600E.

great video. i have module 901 too and i want to use bezel and straps for 5600e like yours. can you give me some tips or cautions? did you used 901's original screw for fixing bezel?

So the E case is physically smaller than the C (901) case. That being said the E bezel will not fit the C case unfortunately. I am not sure exactly about the band because I did not try it, but it probably would fit inbetween the lugs but be too narrow in there. I did use 2 of the original screws for the C case but I had to order new screws because the other 2 were missing. These screws are steel on the steel case and can rust and become stuck inside their threaded bore so be careful not to break the threads off inside the case.
So because the E is smaller, the E movement will fit into a C case (with a little bit of space) but the 901 movement WILL NOT fit inside the E case.
I also changed out the crystal from the E case to the C case and had to use silicone to seal the crystal in and keep water out.
It was ultimately not a hard project overall but I cannot recommend it today because of the cost of those bezels. If you look online the bezels for the DW-5600C cases are ridiculously expensive. You can get the band still, but the bezel is what is nearly impossible to get. I was using a NOS bezel that I had bought a decade ago for not too much. When I went to buy another one, I was blown away by the price!!!
If you want to try this modification, let me know if you have any specific problems and I will do my best to help you with it.
That is all I can think of at the moment, if there is anything else I can help with, please let me know.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

hi, do you know if the vintage steel cases (dw5200)are compatible with the modern modules of the dw 5600e? Thank you

      Hi, thanks for the question.
I actually do not have a DW-5200, nor have I ever had one actually. Looking at them online they “appear” to be the same size, but I cannot be certain. Assuming the case is the same size as the DW-5600C that I used in this video it should work with the DW-5600E module.

Hello! I have a project to put a module of a 5600bbm inside the 5600c case (my childhood watch). The 5600bbm module is the model 3229 and fits perfectly in the old 5600c case. But the 5600c buttons don’t seem the reach the new module. Did you had any problems like this in your project? Thank you!

Awesome project you have going on there! No I had no issues with the buttons pressing when switching from the case, it was a direct swap in that sense.
Casio must have pushed the contacts in just a little on the BBM module for some reason. If that is the case then the length of the 5600C buttons would not be sufficient.
Can you change the buttons out from the BBM to the C case? If you can and they fit that may be the solution to your issue. If you don’t have that ability perhaps there is a watchmaker near you or shop that would have the expertise and knowledge of such an operation.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you for the feedback! I will try to fill the gap in the module itself. Maybe with some plastic and adhesive. If this doesn’t work, i will send the watch to my watchmaker. I keep you posted!

Could you give me same advice, iam looking for a DW5600C 691 module ebay, Beside the module stamp on the back plate. - Is where a way to tell the Difference visually between 691 from 901? Thanks 😊

Hello herogamer, thank you for watching and commenting!
Unfortunately I am not aware of any visual differences except the screw down back inscription (as you already pointed out). The 691 will have a mirrored back whereas the 901 will have a milled back that is not mirrored.
In checking around I came across this excellent page that more defines some details about the watches if you want to peruse it:
      anton-c.blogspot.com/2008/10/dw5600c-classic-g-shock.html?m=1
Also one last piece of advice… the resin bezels used on G-Shocks are hard to find once a certain time period has elapsed. Finding straps is pretty easy and they are reasonably priced but those bezels they are not easy or cheap to find. I have a early 2000’s G-Shock (10 - 20 years newer than these) that I cannot find a bezel for at all!
If you find either module it will most likely not have the bezel and if it does it may crumble to pieces unfortunately.
