The more I listen to Joy Division the more I've come to realize that Hooky is the most important member of the band musically. His sound is what made Joy Division Joy Division and he continued and perfected his sound with New Order.
Obviously they can't get Ian Curtis back from the dead to sing the songs but as long as Hooky is on stage playing those iconic bass lines I think it's the closest you will ever get to what a Joy Division concert would have been like.
Hopefully one day they can all make up and reunite and tour again as Joy Division but for now this will be more than enough.

first thing you hear of love will tear us apart again, it's the bass, then you know peter is the reason you hear joy division and you stayed because of the voice of ian curtis, both of them were joy divisions, the other 2 were there to fill the space in my opinion... btw peter sounds like ian in shadowplay here... a little bit.

I've just seen the replies here only 4 years (!) later. Yes agreed, he does a great job and the songs sound awesome. I agree with the opener above, his sound is what made Joy Division, I've always believed that. My favourite New Order album is Movement, probably because that sound was still somewhat intact, and he did the vocals on Doubts Even Here which is a beauty, although if you look hard enough his role of vocalist is disputed. Still a fab song with that Joy Division sound.

When I listened to these tracks back in my School days, I could not have known that I was getting into possibly one of the most influential bands of all time. I think it is great that Hooky is giving so many people the opportunity to hear and feel now what I had the pleasure to listen to back then. Not sure why people are discussing Peter's voice critically, what made Joy Division was the raw cut and that is what you can hear here.

Everything got screwed up for those guys when they were young men. Ian Curtis, great singer, no doubt, but if you ever read any books on him as I have, they were doomed from the beginning as Ian was a fatalist. There was no way any the other members could save him from himself and short of being put in a mental hospital where he could be safe from himself, there really was no way of knowing what was to happen.
This put their next band, New Order, in jeopardy right away because in a large way they were "doomed", if you will, from the beginning of NO (except for Gillian -she wasn't in J D). As the guys wanted to do something totally different, as they said they would if anything were to happen to one of the members of JD. They had to carry around the memory and "ghost " of Ian. I think they should have all gone their separate ways and each of them would've been more successful, the way Peter is now.

Hooky absolutely killed this... I can almost hear Ian. Props to Glyndwr too, for getting such a good recording. Production is top notch.

I was lucky enough to win a radio contest in 1993 to fly out to Chicago to see New Order play at the World Theater. We had backstage passes and had a meet and greet with the band. Peter was so gracious and so much fun to hang out with. Instead of treating us like a bunch of annoying fans/contest winners, he hung out with my sis and I for a good portion of the night and we had a great chat and lots of laughs. He was really a great, genuine guy. One day I hope he and the rest of New Order can settle their differences and reunite. The world needs to experience the magic of the original band again....

I was going to bed. I will have to go to the pub now as I am buzzing after that! lol. It is Quite moving when I take a minute to think about Hooky and the memories those songs must bring back for him.
