Les is such a severely underrated bassist! Nothing fancy, just solid playing, tasteful licks, and punchy tone. Class act!
These guys were such a badass band back in the day.
I've seen the Bunnymen play live about 20 times over the years, I met Ian in 1982 at the Hacienda in Manchester, in the downstairs bar which was called the 'Gay Traitor bar'.. my first impression was how tall he was. He seemed like such a nice guy, and happy to chat about music and stuff and our favourite bands, he was already famous then and as an 18 year old I felt so chuffed to have met him and chatted for about 20 mins, before his manager took him away for a press interview
I remember the gay traitor, very vividly, saw the world of twist and intastella play there
@@valley_robot I was also a fan of both WoT and Intastella, not for dance, but for driving over the Pennines from Manchester to Sheffield and back every day in the dark mostly. Saint Etienne were also a fave of mine around that time.
"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long". Echo & The Bunnymen was one of the most intense bands ever.
really...
Fábio Zappa yeah. Fkn really...
One of the best 'post punk' bands. Great soaring guitars and vocals...holds up to this day!
These were the glory days. I saw them for the first time in March and April 1988 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, GA. The March show ended after about two songs because Ian was so drunk/stoned/wasted. It was rescheduled for April 15 (I remember it was tax day) and it was phenomenal. Ian gave a nice apology and our boys treated us to a splendid setlist. I've seen them numerous times since then, but nothing matches the power of that original lineup.
I prefer Pink Floyd. That was a wonderful band.
I saw the Bunnymen on Easter Sunday 1988 at the Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles. What an incredible show it was. Pete on drums hypnotized me beyond belief. The power he possesed was scary. One the best drummers EVER! R.I.P.
I'd never seen anyone play the drums so hard before. He definitely broke a few sticks when I saw them.
I saw them at THE GREEK in Los Angeles September 9, 1984. A friend of a friend knew a girl that was seeing their drummer at the time. We delivered "party favors" backstage at the show I saw. ;p We got great seats!!!
I was at that Universal Amphitheatre concert as well! Front row! So amazing! Grateful to see them LIVE at their apex.
Ray Manzarek from the Doors came out for the encore to play "people are strange"
His snare fills were like machine gun fire
Pete de Freitas! What a drummer! Say what you like about the quality of the songs, they were never the same without him!
he was definitely the most underrated drummer of the 80s.
@Matt·Dylan It was a pitty that Peter died in moto accident, music lost a new brand drummer way
Like you have listen in "All as jazz" song. I've enjoy this ban form thar years. i was omly 20.
Thankfully i saw them once intact so to speak ( wembley arena 1988 I think, i remember mac dropping his mic at the start of thorn of crowns!) I've thought how Will has heavily influenced the guitar of bands like Radiohead also, sheer magic , when the lights go down and the gregorian chant starts its STILL a shivery moment even today....
Fantastic drumer!!!! a terrible loss for world music!!!
What an intense version of all that jazz. The full concert shows an energy hard to find in bands from 2020's.
Absolute raw magic right here. The best, original, psychedelic Post Punk ever made! Seen them many times over the years, met them drank beers with them in California. Long live the Bunnymen!
The mix on this (as well as on Aztec Camera) is so damn good. Bass and drums comes in so well. Usually so muddy but this is spot on.
I went to same school as pete. I went backstage at gloucester on the ocean rain tour and had a smoke and a chat with him. The atmosphere in dressing room was not good , everyone at different parts of the room and not talking. They later took a year off. The gig that night was amazing though . Although the band were tired and obviously fed up with each other, they were on top of their game on stage. High watermark of the band .
世界で一番カッコいいバンド!
Back in the day I had a tape player with earphones. The walkman or something like that and I could fit it in my coat. I would ski with "songs to learn and sing" on perceptual play. It's strange but what I remember most is opening up my pocket and the smell of that roasting Walkman coming out of my pocket I'll always remember it and those good times.
BEST BAND EVER !!!! ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN !!!!
Omgosh I saw them 1984 in Berkeley one of the best concerts I've ever been to
They are very good live!
never disappointed @ saw & met him several times ! fantastic ❤️ singer & band from 🇺🇸 cheers😊❤🎉
te equivocas son de Inglaterra, Liverpool!
Wait, are you saying Mac’s from America?
No, that's not what's written
@@nicolekoretsky9062 I’m not sure if you’re addressing me or the OP, but in the context of what you said it only makes sense that you meant that for me. If that is indeed the case, then all I can say is that little American flag emoji certainly leads one to believe that the OP thinks that either Mac or the Bunnymen as a whole are from the USA. I mean, could I have misinterpreted the post? Possibly, as I don’t regularly communicate almost entirely in emojis… but from where I sit it sure does appear that way.
@@Shikta-poobah67 I meant the person who made the stupid question about Mac being from America. Apologies for placing the comment @you xx
Amazing live performance from Echo & The Bunnymen. The self proclaimed Best Band Ever. So said Ian. He might have been right.
Can't argue with Ian
Best band best album...ocean rain....greatest song ever written....the killing moon .....all his claims....was he wrong,? NO...LOL!!!!!
Mac the Mouth
No questions for me. They are one of the very few bands that occupy rock music's most elite level, all things considered. What an absolute gift to have discovered these guys at the beginning!
@@davidmurray25391. THE SMITHS ,2. ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN ,3. THE WATERBOYS ,4. PREFAB SPROUT ,5.THE HOUSE OF LOVE
One of the numerous bands in the late 1970's into the 80's that kicked ass!
Yep. History will look back on the latter half of the 20th century as the peak era of pop culture, and at the 1977-1982 period specifically as the pinnacle of the era. I was 10 years old in ‘77 and 15 in ‘82. I was turning on to all this incredible stuff for the first time, and it shaped me into the person I’ve been ever since. Forged in fire. As disappointing and dystopian as these times are, I’ll at least die happy knowing that I got to experience those years.
Bunnymen at their peak, great version of Silver, one of my favorite bunnymen songs
I don’t know about “peak”. Realistically I’d say that was the previous year, but yes they were still very much on top of their game at this point. A year or so later and the cracks started showing.
Beautiful man. Fantastic band. Where did my youth go? Lmao. Love from the UK.
What a treasure this is...beautiful!
Pure gold. Thanks for putting this piece of music history out there for us punters.
such an accurate statement
This concert is so fuggin' good! They are so 80s and at the same time I can feel The Doors bleeding through.
A true live performance. No lip sync, no backing track. The Bunnymen could play. Echo had such a great voice back in the day.
Dear Mr. Echo...
Neil neil, oorange peeel
Echo was the name of their drum machine.
@@barkmark2725 The drums have a great voice. So does Ian.
great quality live performance. I've listened to these guys for almost 30 years.
FANTÁSTICOS; QUÉ TIEMPOS 💖💝🦄

My thoughts exactly.
What a vocal he' got!!
Immense! Such a great band, totally hooked from the first time I heard The Cutter (aged 10 :)).
SILVER ❤
On rare occasions in concerts sometime wonder if God is witnessing these shows?!
Pete and Les in the engine room 👌
what an absolute treat this is. you get a vague sense just how powerful the band's stage persona was. mac is/was a wizard of performance.
The drummer is a beast wow! and the bass player is the coolest dude I think I have ever seen he's fonzi cool.
“Aye! Sit on it”
-Les Pattinson
I love the band and I saw them in 84 and few weeks ago x still got it ❤️
I like the Tele combo
Great performance...Ian's voice sounded flawless...love it!🐰❤❤
Well, he did have some trouble on My Kingdom...
Saw them at Beacon Theatre NYC around this same time so good! One of my all time favorite bands
Los escuché infinitas veces en esa época. Ahora sigo escuchándolos.
I saw them 20-30 times between 81-86 (last show: Manzarek joining them on the Pier in NYC opening for New Order, lots of blow backstage and a hot night in the city).
They really were one of the greatest bands of all time. With respect for fans who appreciate them now, once Pete died and Ian got into the rockstar lifestyle, it wasn't the same.
Jesus, this is a great show. Thank you.
I was at that Pier show in NYC when Ray Manzarek came out and played Bed Bugs and Ballyhoo. Amen brother.
@@ranxerox5310 1986 .... seems so long ago.
I was at that concert in 1986 at the Pier! It was one of the best ever! Gene Loves Jezebel opened the show. It was an amazing backdrop seeing the skyscrapers and hearing this great music. I took my new girlfriend who never heard of this stuff. I played Echo, New Order and GLJ in the car for her so she would have some benchmark for the show. We broke up a year or so after the concert, but we still stay in touch. She continues to tell me that show, that night was one of the best of her life. I agree. I would give anything to find a recording of that show in its entirety. Until then, shows like this are fantastic. Those were heady times with excellent music coming out from all over.....especially the UK
@@NeilMHickey1 Thanks for sharing that.
Omg, so beautiful!!
EPIC
Fucking powerful!!! Love the Bunnymen!!!
I saw them twice in this year, I was 15.That's all I remember cos you saw a cupla bands every other week in those days
I love this song like this band.. remember, my night school year.
Este fue el programa donde les descubrí inolvidable que recuerdos grande
A thumbs down on this? Huh? Whoever did that was off his/her head. Pure passion, fuel here.
Woooooow es impresionante este ritmo frenético de los Echo and the bunny Man woooooow
I remember watching this episode featuring my favourite group when it aired on Spanish TV....thanks for posting
They deserved a little more response from the audience. The songs were played with commitment. Not a hugely visual band but really committed to playing well.
Absolutely perfect..
Absolutely excellent.....saw them in Brighton (UK) in 1984....
Saw em live at Wembley back in the 80’s 👍
magnifique bunnymen !!!
GRAN baterista
D.E.P.🎶🎶🎵🎵👌👌👌🎖
Ahí estuve, pegado a la vieja tele que teníamos... es como que me he hecho mayor...
Bunnymen and the smiths best bands from the 80s
Exactly.
Don´t forget New Order and Talking Heads.
And Dont forget The Cure!!
Don't forget The Cult
Killing Joke still going strong.
Like this version of "Silver"
I love the fan at the end wants to hear 'More Than This' by Roxy Music. Now THAT would be cool.
Dear Mr Echo, this is when The Bunnymen were in their Prime !!
One year past their prime. Still great though.
You have KILLER taste in music; I just spent all day watching your posted concerts. Thanks man, really!
+stereopolice Thank You Very Much.
I will take that as a recommendation to subscribe now.
Simplemente buenisimos ...
A shame Ian's tele is not in the mix, but his vocals are perfection so at least we can hear them!
Les Pattinson is the epitome of smooth and cool.
Love him. He’s such a sweetheart too, social and easy to talk to, great sense of humour
Watching again, and I never realized after all these years that they had another Stewart Copeland.
Ultimate cool!
84, top of the bunnymen bell curve
Excelente banda ....
Melhor banda dos anos 80!
Concordo
E aí brazucas. Esses caras fizeram história. Tenho uma coletanea deles que já ouvi umas trezentas vezes.
Crown of Thorns is amazing in this set.
I saw him in 93/94 and he chains smoked through the concert...
Freakin GREAT!!!!
782.694 times better than U2
TIGHT
Thank you for this. Amazing band at its peak.
Those spanish kids really wanted to hear Rescue, glad the bunnies obliged.
Makes sense. I’m pretty sure it had been a charting hit in Spain a few years earlier.
La colonna sonora della mia gioventù! Grazie per avermi riportato nei fantastici '80!❤️❤️
When a friend dies,,, a light goes out

Thanks for sharing this. I saw them in Dallas in 1984 and it remains one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Loved the way de Frietas was positioned at the front of the stage!
