Another great video, thank you! So nice to see 'real' bikes. Sadly, the chromed stays and forks on my custom '88 Roberts went the same way as the Tomassani in the video, but that was due to 15 years in a damp shed. Sorry Pinky! She is still being ridden though 👍
Hi there! A timely video for me. I had some 90's Colnago Precisa forks re-chromed by a well-known UK-based cycle restorer during the summer of 2022. Despite having ridden the bike less than 10 times since (on the sunniest of summer days), I am dismayed to see the appearance of rust spots and flaking chrome. Maybe they weren't pre-treated with the other layers that you described? I haven't discussed this with them yet. Was considering getting the forks stripped and painted to match the frame. Would be a shame to lose the retro vibe of chrome though.
Approximately how much would you charge to strip them back and rechrome them properly?
