High Handicap at Bandon Dunes

- The second and last video of my 2022 trip to Bandon Dunes on the Oregon Coast. This video highlights four of the signature holes; 4, 5, 15, and of course 16. As luck would have it, outside of #5 I played really well when the camera was turned on.
This round was shot the week before Thanksgiving, on Friday 18. This is the 5th year of an annual trip and we always play the week of or before Thanksgiving and have yet to have a trip when we didn't get at least one of our two days looking like it did this day.

Great drive on the signature hole, was hoping you were going to get that birdie! You weren't kidding about the weather, looked perfect!
I cut out the native audio because of wind and whatnot, but the funny thing is my boss (pays for our trip every year, dog bless him) was trying to tell me my ball stayed on the lower fairway at the very end towards the green but I was certain it crested the hill. It was a low ball into the sun, so it was really hard to track. His drive went into the pot bunker, so when he walked up to it he finally saw mine. HUGE relief and it felt awesome to do that on 16 at Bandon.
@@503Mike wind looked tame compared to my Sheep Ranch trip though. I never saw your hat in jeopardy of flying off as mine did several times that day 🤣
@@DoubleBogeyBass I don't think it peaked over 7mph at any point during the two days. Crazy. I don't recall it ever being so calm.
great video. definitly would have enjoyed a longer video. but any content at or about bandon will always be great. hope one day i can play there.
Thanks! I thought about recording the entire round, but it’s one of those places where I prefer to have fewer distractions so I can just soak everything in; the golf, the scenery, the conversation. The way I record isn’t difficult or burdensome, but it’s still one more distraction. Either way, hope you get to Bandon one day because it’s very worthwhile.
Every time I watch someone play Bandon, i get that much closer to booking a trip to the US to play here. Great video mate, going to make my way through your catalogue, and look forward to seeing more from you!

@@503Mike All the way down from Melbourne Australia! It's a fair trek to get up to Bandon for me 😁. We don't really have the massive resort style courses such as Bandon, Cabot, Streamsong etc..., the closest we have to it would be Barnbougle which isn't bad at all, but seeing the depth of courses you have up there makes me a little jealous sometimes!
@@soliddoublebogeys If it makes you feel any better, I think the same thing about Melbourne whenever I see sandbelt course videos. Maybe not the same as heading to a resort, but awesome golf.
My group was there the same time you were and you're right that the weather was fantastic. We've been going those 5-6 days immediately preceding Thanksgiving for over a dozen years and, by and large, we usually get pretty lucky on the weather. The only bad weather day we had this last trip was Tuesday, with the afternoon being especially bad up at the exposed Sheep Ranch, but nothing but sunshine and calm winds the rest. Glad you had fun, maybe we'll see you there next year!
Well, I can tell you that I'll probably be there the same days (Thurs/Fri) before Thanksgiving. Not sure which courses we'll be playing, but it's my year to pick so probably Pac/Mac combo, or maybe Mac/Ranch. The weather literally never disappoints for one of those two days; fingers crossed!
p.s. as much as it hurts, great win by the Beavs (Duck alum). Cool to see JSmith come back and right the ship. Always more fun when both teams are competitive in the conference.
@@503Mike Thanks for the congrats on my Beavers. Both my parents and my brother went to U of O so I guess I'm the black sheep (I was a civil engineering major, not gonna go to Eugene!). Now my son is a freshman in Corvallis and it was really cool that he was able to go to the game and experience running onto the field, etc. with his roommates.
Regarding our Bandon trips, over the years the resort has pushed the start of the low-season rates back further and further. Now, and for the last few years, the low season rates for lodging go into effect on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and the low season green fees go into effect on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Therefore, we now structure our trips with playing (and staying) off-property on the Friday & Saturday prior, before taking the hit on the shoulder season green fees on that Sunday but then staying those three nights at the resort with that Wednesday being our last rounds of golf before heading home. If you're ever looking to lengthen your trip without breaking the bank, I'd highly recommend Bandon Crossings, a public course about 15 min. south of Bandon. They have all-day rates including power cart for about $100 and it's really a great course.
Still, whatever the plan, as long as you end up at Bandon Dunes you can't go wrong! I really enjoyed your videos and subbed, have a happy holidays!
@@osubeaver9976 If I were going to be a CE I'd have gone to OSU too. As it is, my youngest graduated from UO and is now prepping to head into a masters program at OSU. Like most families, we're split all over the place!
We've discussed moving the annual trip just a couple of days later to take advantage of the cost savings, but schedule-wise it works too well as is. That said, it is a company-paid trip with the boss, so whenever he wants to move it, I'll do it! Thinking of adding a second February trip to go with my wife, since she loves golfing too. We have it pretty good living so close.
@@503Mike Congratulations on your youngest's graduation. My youngest is a HS freshman and she actually joined our most recent Bandon trip for the first time. She's excited for golf team to start in the Spring and is a pretty solid 9 handicap. Not to brag too much, but she shot a 33 on back nine at Pac Dunes on our trip, her first time under par for 9. It took a birdie on 10 and holing out for eagle from 97 yds on the par 5 15th but boy was she one happy camper!
And I agree, any trip somebody else is paying for the trip, the schedule is perfect! I've been lucky enough to have a few vendor-funded trips down there and I'll sometimes go down a day or two before and "meet them there". 3hr 45min from my driveway to the Bandon practice center. Hard to beat that!
@@osubeaver9976 Just make sure you take the Umpqua River route so you can stop at the Sugar Shack in Reedsport for some fantastic birdie-fueling donuts. In fact, you should stop on the way back too because they also make great road-trip fuel!
That par 3 was number 12. Not 15.
