An unfortunate 9 holes of golf

  • Shot-by-shot of a very poor round of golf at a very fine golf club, Creekside Golf Club, in Salem, Oregon. The area was hit really hard by an ice storm several weeks ago, so that's why you see all the downed limbs and brush piles. There is no such easy explanation for my performance, which could also be described as a bunch of downed limbs and/or a giant brush pile.
Shot on GoPro Hero4 Silver in panoramic setting to make it easier to keep pace with everyone. Not ideal. Short game was shot with a .75 lbs Russet potato, aka my GoPro zoomed-in. I was playing a bright orange ball, which the camera clearly struggled to pick up. Shot tracing was done on my iPhone with the Golf Tracer app. Given the camera shots or panoramic and have a sort of zoomed-out effect, the tracers are really just my best guess and recollection as to ball flight path and shape.
Lastly, it's a shame my shoddy camera work and production skills failed to capture the depth of the low point of my front nine (after taking my drop from the pond tee shot I shanked it into the green utility box) followed immediately by the high point (I struck a perfect 6-iron fade that rode the wind 170-ish onto the front of the green where you see me putt from). Such is golf.

Yeah, that ice storm was tough on us. You mixed some good shots in there! I'm thinking about playing there before winter arrives. Is it a tight layout?

This is 6 months late, but the answer to your question is yes and no. I would describe the front 9 as generally tight after the first hole, but I probably have a larger dispersion pattern than you. The back has more holes that feel kind of open to me than the front, but that may be different if you stand on the other side of the ball. In general, I feel like Creekside falls a little more on the side of target golf than not. I enjoy playing it, but on days when I'm spraying the ball at the wide end of my dispersion pattern it can be a pretty big challenge.

Looks like your putting let you down a bit on this round, boy have I had those days...
Does look like a nice track, too bad about the Ice storm taking down so many trees.

Pitting was poor overall, but it wasn’t the only weak link yesterday. Short game usually saves my scores but I was completely out of sorts in this round; full swing, short game, putting, and then some poor decision making to top it all off. I didn’t film the back 9 so I could focus a bit more... didn’t really help.

Wind was unexpectedly strong yesterday. Got worse later too.

@@503Mike I can relate to that. I played just the back 9 on march 2nd and shot 39 then played the full 18 and shot 89. Classic golf for you there
