People try to predict the economy not realizing it is not a capitalistic market, its a command economy, central planning! my concern is, instead of having much dollar in bank that could lose value to inflation, do I save in gold to reserve and grow wealth for now, or just hang on?

    • @PatrickFitzgerald-cx6io

truth is that gold serves as an inflation hedge in the long run, but not profitable in the short run. only thing you can predict is a strong effort of wealth transfer from the people to the powerful. luckily some folks find solution in financial advisors

I must admit it that Gordon Chang is "smart". Yes, smart indeed!!
This Gordon Chang is doing is to take advantage of American stupidity to enriched himself.
Since the 1999s, Gordon Chang has written books predicting "the collapse of China" or demonizing China including: “The coming collapse of China”, “China is going to war” and “China plan to destroy America”.
His book resonate with his American reader who wished for/delude themselves of a Chinese collapse or a China threat.
They keep buying his book and invited him to talk shows.
Over a decade later, there is still no collapse, Americans keep thinking that there is going to be a collapse or China is going to attack America.
They still keeping buying books of Gordon Chang’s failed prophesies of China making him very RICH in the process.
This smart Gordon Chang has been laughing all the way to the bank as conmen like him do.

@@thomaslee2783 That could be their coping mechanism for absolute failure to compete with China, so they use these kind of people to inflate their own egos. The truth hurts them to actually hear the facts, because the facts of reality, don't conform to their idea of how things should be in their own western mentality. But that's living in denial of facts. First issue of solving a problem is to recognise there is even a problem to begin with, but seeing as how ignorant, blatant all these western so called journalists are of overlooking facts, they don't want to admit to the hard truths, but recently they've been slowly, but gradually realising they're on the losing side, because look at all these countries who are thinking of joining the BRICS, compared to their pathetic G7, or G20, For development, more & more countries are now thinking of ditching US dollars, for trading.
This would flood the market with even more unwanted US dollars, which will make a headache for US government. It's about time, people start realising that US Ptero-Dollar system is on its last legs, it won't last forever, nothing lasts forever.
Whilst the US establishment, the EU establishments, both switch up their economies in light of Ukraine, by trying to support Ukraine regime, they're making themselves less competitive, because the rest of the world is looking for trading partners, NOT more conflict, wars, when they created these bilateral relations they didn't ask to be involved in any of these clandestine overseas military operations, or be forced to pick a side between West & East, all these countries wanna do is develop their economies, not war. It's also Pre conditions, set by the west in order to start trading, with the global south. I think the west, to some extent has lost their edge when it comes to trading with the global south. They simply have no answer to China's lucrative deals, development, especially development, this area the west is lacking in very badly, whereas China is very well versed in development, they build things so quick, unlike the west, where they have to go through countless useless meetings, just to decide whether to say yes or no, before the west even has meetings on the amount for development, it's a big red tape, that just takes forever to push through anything. China doesn't have any of this red tape.
China wastes no time, if someone needs some development, infrastructure built, China can do it without a problem, & this is one of many problems facing the west. They cannot do what China does, building infrastructure for other countries, in a very quick amount of time. Let me put this way, it takes less time for China to build new infrastructure for another country, than it takes for say, USA, or UK to repair a bridge, that to put it bluntly, is pretty embaressing. Even majority of UK, & US citizens are disgusted by the way in which their governments are so slow to build basic infrastructure for other countries. It's pathetic, when you think about it, I mean, USA, thinks that they seem to have some kind of chance to compete with China, it's a joke.
Even some people online seem to have this idea that even India is a competitor to China. No joke.
I'll be honest here, & even I admit that China is far from perfect, it ain't a perfect country by any stretch of anyone's imagination, but it still gets things done, basic things, like infrastructure, natural disaster relief,
basic stuff that other countries have completely failed. 1 thing I do know, is that there is an aging population in China now, less people are marrying & having kids, that's not good for the economy either. I'm sure China will correct this in time.

    - moved 800 Million citizens (more than TWICE the population of USA) from poverty, to middle class lifestyles
    - have built a High Speed Rail network connecting all Cities and country with Trains that travel 350kph.
    - have built BRI Trading Ports in 157 Countries (out of 197 Countries in the world)
    - have built their OWN Space Station
    - Have sent a successful Orbiter, Rover and Lander to Mars
    - have sent a successful Orbiter, Rover, Lander and Return Module TWICE to the Moon (one to the near side of the Moon, and one to the Far Side of the Moon).
    - have built the largest production of EV's cars
    - have more Engineer Graduates than any other Country in the world

Predictions of China's collapse stem from wishful thinking instead of objective analysis. Certain so called "China experts" or their task-masters obviously have vested interests in portraying China negatively due to geopolitical, economic, or ideological reasons or just simply jealousy. This bias can lead to cherry-picking data, overemphasizing challenges, or downplaying successes. In some cases, these predictions serve specific agendas, as "experts" or their backers may oppose China's rise or political system. Such ill motivated reasoning often results in flawed forecasts that fail to capture China's complex reality and resilience accurately.

Simple: Most Chines in China work very hard to get ahead with 10- 12 hours a day in order to be able to buy a house, hence could get married. They don't have time and interest in macro-economic situation of the whole China, not mentioning the world economic situation. So when the job market get tough, in particular when the whole country development transits to a new model (AI, green technology, global BRI trade, automation...), those Chinese that had been prosperous and used to the old job market (real estate, low-tech manufacturing, cheap products, internet-based sale...) face new challenges.
It will take them some time to adjust/update their new investment and/or skills to the new reality. They WILL complain loudly, but they WILL adjust in time to survive and develop, as they have been doing for the last 40 years.
But for China as whole, the dynamic and nimble mode of operation of the economy, planned and directed by the techno-staffed government and based on the farsighted vision of the world economic situation, would inevitably advance ahead despite ALL challenges and difficulties lying ahead.
Those who bet against China ALWAYS end up losing badly, as EU old car industries and American old capitalists show...

      1. China, together with Japan, are culturally "savers", and they are net lenders to the world, especially to the US.
"The US is 4% of the global population, 40% of global fiscal budget deficits, and 60% of global current account deficits!" (This statement I quote from Lious-Vincent Gave... You can look up CZcams for his many interviews)
The bulk of China's debt is in RMB; only about 10% of China's debt is owed to foreigners. China has huge foreign reserves and foreign assets, and that's why China could fund so many BRI projects worldwide. Despite challenging worldwide economic prospects since Fed started hiking USD rates in March 2022, China's net trade surplus surged to USD 99.05 billion in June 2024, ie. China's trade surplus is still growing strongly and adding significantly to its Foreign Reserves.
      2. On population decline: Negative population growth birthrate is a phenomenon that is impacting ALL developed economies. (Go do your own research... All the developed countries are suffering from negative population replacement birthrates.)
China is the exception as its per capita income hasn't reached "developed" status. I think China is facing it because of its single child policy (1980-2015), its very rapid urbanisation over the same period, and its very high proportion of highly educated female, and economically engaged female in their population.
      3. Traditional macro economic statistics can't capture every aspects of real-world economic production and growth.
It's not very helpful to compare China and US GDP figures directly.
They have chosen very different "development" models and priorities, and thus they have adopted different but accepted conventions to calculate and monitor their respective economic performances.
While China emphasizes its real economic capacity, especially hard production output measures; the US emphasis is on its highly financialised assets growth measures.
      4.
With USD as global reserve currency, the US was able to live way beyond what it's actually producing and earning for the last 50 years. 50% of the wealth, and 90% of the income earned that America has created has been systematically and legally filtered into the private pockets of the top 1%.
Such a model and working system is unsustainable.
A few of their top 10% have already built their private doomsday home shelters, some in US controlled territory abroad.
If you're the top 10% in the US, you should be ok. If not, good luck with your bet!
      😊

@@btgan3838 you have good arguments! I try to add some thoughts to the topics.
Regarding debt. Even if debt is in own currency only it is still debt. Indeed, china could devalue the debt with a forced inflation (print money) and I think there is no other choice. Right now there is too much deflation (property prices, wage cuts, unemployment) and I expect the government to go into a forced inflation. But if china decides to sell global reserve currency they would have to buy own currency what would add positive pressure on the currency an with it to all entities in debt. Reserves in global currency will not help a lot.
Regarding demographics. Yes a lot of developed countries face this problem. My country (Germany) would need 1 Mio newborn per year but we have only 700k. But we have strong net migration, in avg > 500k per year.
Net migration is not a feasible option for china as it is just too big. China has a gap of approx 8 Mio newborn per year to keep demographic situation balanced, number will grow to 10 Mio per year. Within this century china will loose > 500 Mio people. This itself is alarming but if you see the age distribution it is a horrific scenario.
I hope the best for china.

Well, in all reality, China's economy should have had recessions in the past, but, no one could have possibly imagined China would increase it's debt to GBP ratios so high, in the insane obsession of trying to match or surpass the US GBP. The current stats produced by Michael Pettis , in 2024 each 1 Yuan of GBP costs 6-7 Yuan of debt. So yes China can keep investing in the economy to keep 5% GBP growth going, spending higher and higher amounts of debt to sustain this. But China is already so far off the scales in terms of Debt/GBP ratio, it's difficult to comprehend, how much longer they can push this. With entire banking sector controlled by the CCP, normal market dynamics dont apply.
