    Thanks for this!! I bought the struts off amazon for $20.37 and it took maybe 5min to install them. For fun I called the Toyota dealer for an estimate. Parts and labor came $253.

    OMG. Thank you so much!! My dad took his 2005 Sienna to a local mechanic for this very problem, and the dude quoted my dad $500. I'm about to go and seriously kick his ass or something. Bought the parts on Ebay for $20 and got it fixed literally under 2 minutes. You saved me $480 and a trip to the a#$%^ole mechanic.

    Very nice video. On my 2013 Sienna the clips actually came out completely. That was fine since I was putting on new struts. I guess the lower end of the strut was on there so long I actually had to use a small pry bar to pop it out. The top one came out quite easily.

    Thanks for the video. I just replaced my 2004 XLE limited with 220000+ miles. I have read Amazon customers' reviews that at least two persons had mentioned two new struts would make the lift gate hard to close so they installed only one new one and the results were good. I decided to install the left one only and the lift gate functions perfectly. I did not install the right side one so I don't have first hand experience regarding the above mentioned issue. Did you experience too much resistance from the new struts that makes the lift gate not to close properly? Thanks (Just subscribed)

    • @PracticalMechanic
      @PracticalMechanic  Před 10 měsíci

      I noticed with both new struts installed, that the lift gate opened faster (with more authority!) and also took more force to close, which you might expect. I didn't notice any issues with it not closing properly. It works fine, just takes a little more force to close it, like when it was new. If replacing just one works well for you, then I'd leave it - you'll just have an extra one in case it ever gets sluggish in the future. I hope this helps! Thanks for the sub!

    Great instructions, removal was a piece of cake, but the new struts are about 1/2" too long for my install. Couldn't get the new ones to fit at all on my 2007 Sienna, no matter how much I moved the lift gate. Any insider tips? The video was helpful, though. Will try to buy from a local parts store and eyeball them before purchase.

    • @PracticalMechanic
      @PracticalMechanic  Před rokem

      Bummer! 1/2" too long should still work without damaging the liftgate (assuming you can somehow get them on!). You probably already tried it, but sometimes taking off the opposite side strut can help to give you the extra 1/2" you need. In some cases, having 1 or 2 people pushing UP on the liftgate while another person is pushing the strut onto the knob can work.
      Anyway, good luck, hope it works out!
