Content made possible by samples from GW - thanks guys!
Cheers, I probably could have done with a 5 minute overview and gone "oh got it" but I appreciate this too.
Great stuff! This is getting me in the zone. As I sit here basing up 30 old school chaos dwarves like a madman, but I will not be stopped. Hashut!
Praise Hashut!
Rock on!
Great vid again! Thank you , mate! Greeetings from Germany!
Thanks very much! and Hello :D
Been enjoying the content. One request, chapter/topic bookmarks would ve really helpful
Noted!
Thank you! Most of rules come back from 6th and 7th WHFB. And it's cool!
thanks
Thanks again, informative and clearly presented as ever.
Yeah keep pushing vids! I watch, it is fun!
Thanks! Will do!
That appears to be a change - not being able to target a character with shooting if they are part of a unit and (for example) mounted alongside infantry.
That's big. Models like High Elf characters can enjoy the additional protection of a elven steed yet still be protected from being targeted by cannons or even archers.
thats a good point - I completely forgot that was a thing back in the day
Not beeing able to buy the book in my store, so these videos help alot, thx.
glad they help
Good run down.
I've been out of the loop for a while on the rules for WHFB so was a good refresher on the changes.
glad it helped - I have defo been out the loop for a while :D
Again very informative - even if the topic was dryer this time. Learning a lot from these videos, bringing back the Warhammer mindset!
thanks - I was a bit worried how these kind more rule focused dry topics would do but seems to be what people want to get playing
Great review - looking forward to the next
No charging out is good I agree
Not sure about the making way into the flanks
yeah its a good change
Excellent info as always. I had a challenge dilema come up in a game and haven't found the answer. This is what happened in the game: I charged some knights into a unit with a caster. I issued a challenge with the 1st knight(champion) to take out the caster. The other player refused the challenge and moved to the back rank. Does my champion now just strike the unit as normal? In the heat of the battle I couldn't find the rule that pertained to this situation.
Thanks great explanations!
Glad it was helpful!
At what point do characters make way after their unit has been charged in the flank? Is it before the first round of combat? What about if a unit is charged in the rear? Do you still get hit by Lord Chonkington even if you manage to get a rear charge on his unit?
Characters make way at step 1.1 in combat phase I'm pretty sure that means you can do it in first round so can respond to flank attacks etc
@@FaceHammer I'm confused by your answer. I don't see what that has to do with my question.
@@zomby138 sorry was in reply to someone else the comments went squiffy
Can spells that target a character, e.g Apotheosis (lore of lustria) target a unit champion as they’ve gained the character keyword?
What about a unit of infantry (25x25mm bases) with four ranks
with a cavalry character joined there (30x60mm base)
that have received a chariot charge from flank where a character is located,
1. a unit gets the impact hits, but the attacker can only hit the character?
2. the unit is rearranged by moving character in front of a unit and the charger can attack a rank'n'file models?
ad 2.
a) if there is not enough space in the front?
b) if there is not enough space in the back because something parked there?
Can also a detachment unit upgrade rank and file to command group models or only the parent regimental unit?
And thanks for the great explanations in the videos! 👍
no command for detachments - no problem
on ethereal I would suggest RAWZ surely the ethereal character can't join the unit as they Rnt currently ethereal.
So this barrier happens before the ethereal buff would be transferred to them ( since they would only become ethereal AFYER joining..which they cant)
As a VC player it's a bit depressing but I guess i could finally get my wraiths back in zombie blobs if I have a necromancer in. make the unit ethereal and then join the wraith...? 😆
I take it that the unit thats joined by a character that's not the general still benefit from the character's leadership that's joined their unit, ie. a black orc big boss with a leadership of 8 in a unit of goblins at leadership 4 has that unit of goblins take leadership tests at the leadership of the leadership 8 big boss
Thanks very much for this. One Q: Do champions count as rank and file for the purposes of the '3 rank and file must stand in the front rank' rule? Thanks again!
yeah they are
I liked the vid but i wish you'd separated it or done characters first. The amount of rules you where saying I was starting to glaze by the time you got to characters which is very important.
Maybe I've missed this, but does a character with Terror joining a unit confer that to the unit as a whole?
Would the Fear effect confer this ability to the entire unit or just the character model"...any models in that unit that direct their attacks against the Fear-causing enemy suffer a -1 modifier to their rolls To Hit." p168
review my army list?:
Chaos lord with enchanting aura, on steed, with 5+++ save, in unit of 4 chosen knights. 2 units of 5 khorne knights, level 4 sorceror lord of tzeentch, with familiar in unit of 17 skirmishing marauders, exalted bsb of nurgle with favour of gods in 14 warriors of nurgle with shields, 15 nurgle warriors with shields, 4 x 5 warhounds, 2 with vanguard.
Does Great cannon ball consider as a template? If yes, that mean we can shoot on the character, and pray he fail the "look at sir" roll ? regarding stone thrower, character will be most of the time under the small Strengh template.. or can we choose he will be hit by the big Strengh of the middle? Because now we need to shoot in the middle of the unit, we can't choose to place the center of the template on the character right? Thank you in advance ! xD
Cannons are not templates but they do just hit whatever the line passes over - so you can snipe heroes in units
Stone throwers cannot aim the "big hit" on them unless the character is the center of the unit
What happens to champion if a unit takes enough casualties to kill the front rank? Is only way to kill a champion is by allocating an attack to it or challange? I'm asking this because I remember it being different on 5th edition but now trying not go into that pit hole of mixing old rules with new ones 😅
based on old rules - if you dont allocate any hits on champ or use challenge - that champ lives. So always remember to allocate 1 hit on a champ when fighting. So when fighting it defaults to kill all the 'chaff' first unless you say otherwise.
yeah you would need to allocate to the champ - he hasn't been killed so can fight if you dont
Can a character on a chariot join a unit of chariots? Say for example, a goblin on a chariot joining a unit of wolf chariots. I can't find anything that says no, but I
could be missing a section
only if the chariots say they can be taken 1+
If I have a character on a royal Pegasus what formation would that be in?
Thanks
Awesome rules breakdown! Looking forward to watching more! 😊
If a single character challanges a unit, can the other models not challenged still fight? or can a monsterous character basically be immune to the unit cause its a challenge?
yes essentially if you accept it
If my Ogre unit with full command is only 3 wide and a character joins them, do you still displace the command units? Like the banner or musician?
not by the letter of the rules. you would need to go 4 wide or just dont take a muso
Can the BSB be the general if they have the highest Ld or do you pick the next highest Ld?
no
@@KarsunaOG thanks! though so since it’s worked that way forever
Can lone monsters, e.g. Treeman, issue challenges?
no just characters
What if you just dont take any command group? Can you make a character barrier then?
Half the unit front rank must be normal rank and file - so no cannot create a character barrier
So a cav hero can join an infantry unit?
yup even a monstrous cavalry character - however Monstrous Cav and Monstrous Infantry can only be joined by that type (its in the rules for those unit types)
Good evening freinds
Same to you
Are you FORCED to place the Standard and Command Group in the centre of the first rank when a Character or two has joined the unit? I want my King on Shieldbearers to stand in the very centre of a group of dwarf warriors, not have him stand in a corner, simply aesthetically.
I strongly agree and am with you on this.
The rules are there for balance purposes. It's abstract anyway.
I do appreciate that though as I'd like my characters to be central as well for appearance, but I'm happy for the rule to be protecting from cheese.
You can have rules that remove old gamey bullshit without taking away player freedom and expression.
Literally fixed lame character busses by having Command Group being the one taking precedence in the first rank, DONE.
No need to tell us where exactly we place those models.
Again we don't have full rules so will have to confirm when I have my eyes on the rules as Facehammer does such a mediocre job relaying these rules interactions.@@Captain_Idaho
there are 300 pages of rules - I did mention that standards have to be placed centrally so I believe its quite clear from the book that characters will get pushed out to the side of the front rank. I am trying my best to relay everything I can and its a lot of work to make these videos around my life. Its not really cool to call it mediocre - feel free to set up your own channel and do a better job - let me know when its up and ill point people in your direction
Characters with diffrent sized bases from the unit they join (slan, screaming bell etc) tends to have their own rules on how they rank up with the unit.
I ain't paying GW a dime. I'm done with them. I have had a real bad time trying to keep up with their changing point cost and rules. Its like the time it takes me to figure out what list I want to play, buy the specific models, assemble and paint and then play them there has most likely been point changes making my list void or changes to the rules making my list bad or irrelevant. Also, we bought multiple rule books to get all the rules for them to either remove them from the rules or change them into uselessness.
So, this has made me not want to buy any models or rules anymore. Because I fear that they within 1-2 years have changes the rules/ point cost or simply culled my models so I no longer can use them. So for me its 3rd party prints.
Also, I get the rules from online sources these days... or from secondhand
I totally understand that. I'm pretty sick/angry about the AoS business model and you are kinda forced into it for competitive play. I mostly play specialist now because they don't fuck with the rules and PTS every few weeks. I'm loving playing with my models I painted 20 years ago
@@FaceHammer Indeed... I was in a fairly tournament competitive group and while that surely has compounded the issue i still feel its an annoying business model... one that I dislike enough for me to pretty much discontinue my relationship with GW. Sure, I might buy an odd model here or there - but I wont be getting my army from them any more.
And its a shame, because I do think they make a good product, its how they handle that product I so much dislike...
