- This bike has been a long time coming, and it took even longer for me to find the words to describe it. This is my Legor Cicli XCR stainless steel race bike. A handmade, steel frame road bike, built in Barcelona, Spain. It's fitted with ENVE Composites and CeramicSpeed.
A big thank you to Mattia Paganotti from Legor Cicli for building such an amazing frame. A big thank you to CeramicSpeed for supplying the OSPW and BB. And a big thank you to The Service Course for making dream builds like this one a possibility.

Beautiful bike! The simplicity of the paint scheme and the rim brakes together with the quality craftsmanship of a custom steel frame just make it all look good. Inspired me to get a steel bike of my own.
A steel or ss bike demands ss cages. So, a pair of Arundel ss cages combined with the ss logos and ss chain stay, will make that bike look SUPERB!!!!
I am a big fan of high end steel and now I own a Titanium gravel bike build from the ground up. 👌🏼 bikeforlife
Congratulations.
You learned the secret of cycling.
nice, Legor are beauty bike.
thanks mate.
Finally, the most awaited video😉. Kudos as always. It was a great pleasure to see a little bit of backstage of this video🤩👌
Lovely bike 👌
I have a stainless steel rig. I don't know why it isn't more popular. It's not as plush as a standard steel frame (which is fine by me) and it feels great, nice & tight, stiff. It responds to my input a lot faster than a standard steel frameset. I love it. Plus, one of the strongest selling points of it was that it was a rim break built with a standard T47 BB and a typical 27.2 seat tube. It just made customizing it so much easier and it's future-proof. Screw proprietary tech.
Another great video 👌🏼 Stunning bike and it suits you so much Tristan! Long life to the rim brakes 👊🏼
Congratulations Tristan. Superb setup. Magnificient ride.
super nice brother, keep the good times rolling
Very late to the party! Beautiful looking/riding bike for sure. I still ride my custom Ken Evans Columbus SL lugged machine from 1988...soaks up the bumps and rails it on downhills! Way back the it was cheaper to buy local custom than an Italian 'super' bike...go figure.
Groupset now is Campy Potenza 11speed...love it! Groupset when I first rode it was Zeus!!! Spanish connection!
Steel is....well forever.
Hi there. I was looking around and stumbled on this video. Great bike. I had the privilege to ride and test a bike with that sprint shifters and also on the hoods. Good experience.
Nice build btw
It's a beauty!
Thanks for sharing the story and the reasons behind the component choices. 53.5 CM TT, rim brakes, made of metal that is were the similarities end with my race bike. Aluminium alloy, lot more exposed seat post, mechanical SRAM groupset and stupidly narrow bars on a zipp cockpit. Metal bikes do not need to be heavy, there was a dick swinging contest at a local race, who had the lightest bike. OK most were aero carbon frames with disk brakes and deep section wheels, mine was close until they realised I left a full bidon in the cage ;-)
That's an amazing bike!
LOVE your bike, rim brakes, and your commentary ablit how planted steel is to ride. Spot on! Gorgeous setup and your results prove steel is real. Hell steal and rim brakes have been used for decades. We are just being marketed to with new innovations like any other sport or industry.
Thanks so much for the kind words and glad you love the bike so much! 🙏🏼
Great video and interesting to hear your thoughts in the differences between both frames after putting in such big KMS and knowing it so intimately. Have a Zullo XCR which rides brilliantly, but you've made me think whether I should get it repainted to make it a big more modern.
I love the video. But the only thing that I have some sort of gripe with is talking about ceramicspeed saving watts. Hambini, some sort of engineer. I can't remember exactly. He makes BB that are a work of art and some halarious videos. He's proven time and time again that ceramic bearings don't do anything for the speeds that us cyclists pedal at.
Maybe just a better quality rear mech hanger and better quality bb make a bigger difference than stock. I'm sadly not in a position to do real world tests for any of it. But just something I wanted to mention
I will say though. I absolutely love how oversized mechs looks on bikes
Beautiful build ❤
You have a great format for your vlog and your topics are great. It's clean, crisp and smooth.... Keep it up.
Thank you!
Beautiful
Looking proud and happy with your new toy. Enjoy it!
Thanks Gerard!
Excellent video. I really like the breakdown of how you made your choices for everything on the bike based on real world testing/experiences.
Thank you! Glad you liked it. I'm a big fan of trying to make rational decisions rather than marketing hype decisions. Thanks for the comment!
Yo Tristian.. Thanks for answering my question in this vid, the reason I asked is I ride a custom Titanium Enigma and absolutely love it. From bikepacking around Thailand to smashing it in my local RR's the bike tackles it all but all my riding mates cant see past Carbon. fully agree with you that there more to a bike than just weight. #Steelisreal
Great video! So much good information 😁
stumbled across this - great video, like the style, your commentary and of course the bike!
Thanks Mark! Much appreciated 🙏🏼
Classy presentation, choice of music, production and bike. Slick as. Rim Brakes still work ✊ 🇦🇺
Great video, and congrats on the bike. Really interesting to hear the differences between stainless steel and your Columbus Spirit frame. I’ve got a stainless frame too, and have just ordered a Ti frame, and it’ll be interesting to see how they differ in terms of comfort. Oh, and they’re both rim brake models, as like you, I’ve never felt like rim brakes have been a disadvantage. 👍
She’s a thing of beauty ❤️
Thanks man. I am properly in love 😍
Beautiful…
Thanks Daniel 🙏🏼
So Beautiful! Thank you for this video & your explanation about your new Xcr Legor. First I ever heard of Legor is when you got your Blue one. Been a fan ever since & hope to own one someday! Thanks again!
Thanks Mike..super cool to have you following along since back then. The blue one was an amazing bike. Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@tristantakevideo Thanks & I like that you kept that blue one even as an art piece it is beautiful & has history right ;) Glad I found your video channel & will work my way thru them all I'm sure! Aloha!!
Amazing bike and great build! I just discovered your channel looking for videos on XCr bikes. I have a custom Stelbel Antenore with brushed XCr steel (no paint, only fork and details) and I love it, I think I'm a little bit taller so the bike is around an L size or 57cm in commercial measurements. Mine has Campagnolo Super Record (analog), rim brakes (ee brakes - cane creek), Ritchey super logic seat post and stem, etc. I'm struggling to get the perfect wheels, I'm between Campagnolo WTO's , Cadex, and some other options, even Black Inc 33's... currently weighs 8.0kg... I think it can go down to 7.6kg, but like you said it's not only about weight, the bike handles beautifully downhill and climbs amazing as well. I'm in love with steel, no longer have any carbon bike. Cheers!
I'm obsessed with this bike!
♥️♥️♥️
Love this content man. You're so natural in front of the camera and explain everything really well. protip for 15:00, would be awesome to see a little preview of the instagram comment itself come up on the screen. I think that would add a sick layer of youtube professionalism to your videos. You're big time famous youtuber now so it's a given right?
there's more to a bike than just it's weight... it's aerodynamics, some would even say it's everything! 😅
I really enjoyed this... very well presented and awesome content.
Thank you my friend 🙏🏼
Amazing bike ! I'm 250watt FTP not 400w like pro ! So don't need a the stiffness of actual carbon aero bike, but yes I prefer the comfort of steel on long rides...
I also like the geometry. I handle a 54 Tarmac with 120mm stem. 56 is good in reach but stack too high... So XCR in 56 will be perfect
Great video and incredible bike! I'm going to be in Barcelona/Girona in Sept and need to check out Mattia's workshop.
Could you provide the Bottom Bracket Drop and chainstay measurements?
Beautiful bike!!!! 🚴💨👌🏻
Thanks Lluis!
Beautiful! I'm in the process of going from 175mm cranks to 165mm. Had a bike fit Monday and was told the same thing you were. Can't wait to pick it up from the shop. The difference on the fitting machine was very noticeable. Great channel. I've been binging since I stumbled across it last week!
Thanks Jay! Glad you enjoyed the video and hope the change in crank length makes as much difference for you as it did for me.
I’m 5’’6” with a 27” inseam and I’ve run 165’s for close to 8 years now and I’m glad I made the switch. I noticed I can spin easier although pushing a bigger gear is a bit more of a challenge. The difference in hip angle overall has completely changed my riding experience and I’ll be running 165’s as long as I can. I think you’ll e joy the switch as well.
@@tristantakevideo The difference is NIGHT AND DAY. Combined with new stem angle/length, pedal spacers and saddle height adjustment, my average is higher, pedaling wayyy more efficient and zero fatigue/back pain after the longest rides.
I'm a rim brake steelist too. Due to covid I had to have a 34 at the back; maybe the Angiluro one day.
steel is real, what a rocket!
You know well. 😉
Beautiful Rig mate. Was wondering when the next video was popping up
Thanks man 🙏🏼
My pro seat post clamp snapped mid ride after a year, probably user error but keep an eye on it!
I think now technologically we can really advance steal on a broad scale if the main brands committed to it and made multiple model offerings, but they would probably just jack up the price to a ridiculous amount anyways where it's just not worth it.
Great video, was waiting to see this machine. Looking into custom steel myself at the minute. When are you going to show us your gravel bike?
Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the video! Check out E2 from back in early Jan for the gravel bike video. 👌🏼
Great bike, me personally would prefer a more classic stem/bar combination, because the the headtube is round but i prefer an aerobar as well.
Planing on a xcr build too but not painted with the nice fillet brazed transitions
Great video. I’m 60 years old and my racing days, other than the odd criterium once in a while, is 15 years in the past.
I have raced on Carbon, Aluminum and Steel.
In my early fifties I bought a Raleigh International frame and fork made with Reynolds 853. It’s paint scheme is jet black like yours though mine has hand filed chrome plated investment cast lugs and a chrome plated dual crown fork. It’s an absolutely stunning look.
Since I no longer race I wisely did not set up for racing. My goal was to have a relatively light bike with excellent handling and ride quality to use for long base fitness rides and was capable for fast group rides and the occasional crit.
It has exceeded expectations. With a Brooks B-17 saddle it is exceptionally comfortable and as you pointed out with yours, it has the best tracking and and ride quality of any bike I’ve ridden, including my Trek Madone. In fact so much better I sold the Madone. In all the bike weighs 8.5 Kg.
Now if I wanted to race it I could replace the components and wheels with high end carbon components, wheels and group set and it would weigh around 7.5 Kg. Plenty light for racing. I could drop another 250g by replacing the the fork with I carbon fork but that would diminish it’s superior tracking and ride quality a tad.
Since I’m no longer chasing seconds and more interested in riding for fun and fitness. I also won’t have to get rid of my bike due the frame wearing out as I had to with my Cannondale or having to replace a carbon frame after a crash that would have done no damage at all to my steel frame as I’ve seen quite a few carbon bike owners do.
In fact my honest opinion is that unless you a riding at a very high level of racing purchasing a Carbon bike doesn’t make a lot of sense given it’s cost. The advantages of a high end carbon road bike are pretty much not available to you if you are not approaching your ideal weight to power ratio, if your cardio fitness isn’t very high, if your positioning and fit aren’t dialed in and you haven’t learned the tactical aspects of racing then from a dollar and cents standpoint it doesn’t make sense.
Well done mate, great set up, And got some passion into it also 👍 As it sits what have you carried over from other builds and new purchases? What’s that build cost?
Thanks Mark. I took the wheels, pedals and saddle from the previous bike. Enve were kind enough to give me a new rear rim as the old one was a little worn. Total retail cost for the bike would be ~€11k but I was lucky enough to pay substantially less thanks to help from Mattia, The Service Course and Ceramicspeed.
Ben fet nano, força!!!
Gràcies! 🙏🏼
Hey, great video! Is this the porreca or the nuiorksitiplus ? Sorry if I missed that in the video
Hey Florian, this one is neither - Mattia designed it not using any existing geometries or ideas he's used in his Porreca and Nuiorksitiplus models, and he says for this reason it doesn't have a model name. Traditionally, when frame builders made frames 100% custom for the rider, they didn't give them model names. Hope that explains it!
Beautiful bike. Im a fan of rim brake road bikes aswell. May I ask what brake pads you are using/recommend for carbon wheels?
Thanks mate 🙏🏼 I use Enve brake pads on the Enve rims but otherwise the Shimano carbon pads aren’t too bad, and also Swisstop are decent.
change the arundel out for king cage stainless steel
I love your new bike even though all my bikes are carbon
Thanks man. 🙏🏼 Never too late to add a steel pony to the lineup..😏
gorgeous bike Tristan!! May i ask how much it cost? :)
Thanks man. I didn’t really add it all up to be honest. I pulled a couple of parts across from my previous Legor, and I also had support from Legor, CeramicSpeed and The Service Course which meant I saved a few pennies here and there, luckily.
nice bike! tell us about the fork please?
Ah yes! Knew I missed something. The fork is a Columbus Futura carbon fork painted to match. Not as light as the ENVE carbon fork but a touch more aero and a bit more affordable. 👌🏼
steel is real
also... you should've said sworks sl-7 instead of specialized there... a few more subscribers and the guys at specialized will send you a plebs bike with sram components 😅
I think if you aren't a professional cyclist - steel, titanium aluminum ect..... is great! But TDF carbon bike minimum weight is 14.99 lbs. You can't complete with team issued carbon bikes period!
