  • After seven great years riding his custom Above Category Baum Corretto, our client came to us looking for a refresh. But he wasn’t looking for a new bike. Instead, he wanted to give his well-loved road machine a facelift and, at the same time, reconfigure the frame to accept a mechanical groupset rather than the Campy EPS that we originally built the bike to accept. A suite of new components, welded cable guides and a paint scheme from Velocolour later, and his timeless titanium bike was ready for another seven years of sterling service. So come along for the ride, and watch as our Service Manager Robert Gee puts it all together in the Above Category workshop.

Many build-up vids seen yet, but nobody is near as a good mechanic as your guy here! Keep up the good work!

Never seen Teflon tape used for bb install. Is this for better bb seal or to prevent the threads from backing out?

Hey Dex, thanks for your message and apologies for the sluggish reply! There are multiple benefits when using Teflon tape on bottom bracket threads. It adds a water tight barrier between the threads, adds friction to prevent cups from loosening up that can causing noising/creaking. It's also harder to disperse than grease/anti seize when washing /degreasing your bike which will help aid in removal of the cups when it’s time for service. Hope that helps! Pete

Ciao! Another curious viewer with a question… what prep work you've been doing to the cranks/bearings? Why remove them? Adding some additional sealing?

      Probably too much to mention!

That paint scheme just doesn't work for me but BAUM does make some sweet frames.
