England met Iceland in the Last 16 of Euro 2016. Rooney put England ahead after only 4 minutes but Iceland equalised immediately after through Sigurdsson. This is Steve McClaren's reaction to Iceland taking the lead in the tie when Sigthorsson scored.

Personally long term I'd like to see Henderson take the #1 spot though. I really don't understand why people always hate on England when they fail, their really not as bad as you make out
Iceland did a fantastic tactical job a on England in 2016, they gave up possession to make it difficult for England and they defended really and counter attacked, and made the most of the chances they did create, their tactics worked like a treat on the day, but other than that even though England played badly and lost, we all know England were a superior team, they played much better than Iceland in possession and they created chances they just couldn't score the 2nd goal, they lacked penetration and they missed the chances they did create.
I see this a lot in football comment section England always get a lot of hate for some reason, its very sad behavior
to be quite honest its like a obsession for some of you England haters, Football is not the only sport they play in England their quite successful at many sports, England and Great Britain are the second most successful country in the world at sports and that's a fact look it up, the USA are number 1 and England and Great Britain are 2nd, that's a fantastic achievement for such a small island of people, their also very creative people and have a fantastic popular culture and history,
You make yourselves sound silly with all your hateful comments, your all just lying to yourselves and your living in denial, and despite all your hate comments England is still a very successful nation in sports and many other things
and if their losing at football their winning at something else or competing for something else, your hateful comments will never change that fact, and you may have your moment in football now and then for your hate, but
its still doesn't change the fact that England and Great Britain are still a fantastic successful country of people.
You make yourselves look jealous and sound jealous and its very sad behavior, but perhaps your hate goes more deeper than just sports.

It wouldn't matter if Iceland lost by six goals. If anything, it would highlight just how bad England were at the time. England are a very decent side; they are more or less a top side on paper. Iceland are on paper the weakest side in the top tiers of Europe at the moment, only there because they have done so well in punching above their weight. If England were to lose to them again, it would be embarrassing, especially since they know not to take Iceland lightly. A draw would still be below par for England. I wouldn't say this hasn't aged well just because England won a match against them afterwards. It's unfair on Iceland and their tremendous achievement, and it's also a bad way to think about it if you're England - forgetting the lessons taught to you, or at the very least brushing them aside in the wake of a minor victory.

Here's a good question: Why do England and their fans think they will do well at every tournament? I mean the vast majority of successful English clubs in European competitions are made up of foreigners while the best club managers are non-English.

I love it, I'm English, but the arrogance of our fans and national team is what made me turn my back on these wankers, now I just sit back and laugh at grown men crying over something that really doesn't matter 🤣🤣

    He can’t say nothing.
Had a better team squad players yet failed to qualify for Euro 2008.
Losing to Iceland was embarrassing but not going to a tournament is another level of embarrassing that’s something special

The sheer arrogance of it. It’s seemingly commonplace in this country. If it’s not thinking we’re all that on the international stage we’re all sneering at team names in the early rounds of the Europa League. It looks a bit daft when it bites you in the arse.
