  • The NBA had enough of the one game play-in from the bubble last year. We have another brand-new format for the second year in a row. This might not change much for the top playoff teams but it makes the games leading up to the playoffs much more interesting. #NBA #NBAPlayoffs #NBAFinals

      The NBA has has built in tiebreakers that apply to all of the standings (final standings determine draft order so this applies to non-playoff teams too). When two teams are tied they go in the following order:
      1. Better record in head-to-head games
      2. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
      3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
      4. Higher winning percentage in conference games
      5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
      6. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
      7. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed
      When 3 teams are tied it goes:
      1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
      2. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied
      3. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
      4. Highest winning percentage in conference games
      5. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
      6. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed

      i don't think that's how the Play in tournament works, it could be any team, but the one with an experienced team or perhaps luck win and get a spot

    Why the 7 doesn't play the 10 and the 8 play the 9 one game elimination?Teams could fatigue while top seeds gets rusty or well rested

    ...last years play in tourney was ok cause they didn't finish the season...this season it seems that every team is going to play 72 games and finish the season...i don't find it fair for the 7th and 8th seed to have to play extra games just to keep there 7th and 8th seed...and they have to to play hard to keep that seed that they fought hard for in the regular season to get...and if they win the tourney they have a quick turn around to play the 1st and 2nd seeds...it only benefits the 9th and 10th seed...it also benefits the 1st and 2nd seed cause they will play a 7th and 8th seed that just played hard to get or keep there seed...

    NBA just need to do a aau style tournament with 7 games each round. bring all teams in an arena and have games and spectators would be other nba teams just like a normal aau tournament. That would rack in money. A 3 Week Shootout

    So how would this play in tournament work? After the season they would do the play in? Wouldnt that be heavily in favor of the top 6 teams cause they will get the time to rest while the play in tournament is ongoing?🤔🤔

    • @numbersbehind
      @numbersbehind  Před 3 lety

      Yep, right after the season ends. There is a slight advantage for the top 6 teams since they get to rest a little longer and don’t have to play as many games, but it’s kind of similar to a bye week like the top seeds in the NFL get during the wild card round.

    • @eazydro20
      @eazydro20 Před 3 lety

      @@numbersbehind Gotcha. Honestly they should just have 6 teams per conference in the playoffs if that’s the case. No chance a 7-8 team can beat a well rested top seeded team. Then instead of a play in tournament, teams should just battle it out for a better chance of a high draft pick in the upcoming draft lol.

    • @numbersbehind

      That will be determined by record and their original standings going into the tournament. So the 7 seed will have home court throughout the tourney.

    • @numbersbehind
      @numbersbehind  Před 3 lety

      Yep but the 7th seed is up for grabs as well. However, only the 7 or 8 can be the 7 seed since it’s determined by the winner of the 7-8 game while any of the teams 7-10 could take the 8 spot.

    Why was it that a play-in tournament was not played in both conferences last year?

    • @numbersbehind
      @numbersbehind  Před 3 lety +1

      The 9 seed needed to be within 4 games of the 8 seed in to have a chance at a play in. The 9-seeded Wizards ended up being 7.5 games back of the 8-seeded Magic so they didn’t have a play in in the East. They eliminated that rule this year guaranteeing a play in tournament in both conferences.

    Like in NBA, superstars don't play the whole season with negative MRI and when they get back they play like they were never injured because it's playoffs. Like an easy way to win NBA chip.

    Whats weird about this new thing is that the statistics for the extra game were not kept last year when Portland played Memphis in that play-in game. Damian Lillard scored 31 points that night and none of that went into his total for his career, neither did anyone else’s stats that night. Is the NBA going to pretend that these play-in games never happened like it was a preseason game or something?

    • @numbersbehind
      @numbersbehind  Před 3 lety +2

      The crazy part is that no playoff games count towards career stats. They are kept separate so these play in stats will be included in those. It does seem a little odd that “career” stats don’t factor in what most consider to be the most important part of a player’s career.

    I like it because it keeps teams from sitting best players for "load management " just to coast to a 8 seed to play weaker teams to pad playoff stats.. when they should be number 1..
