    I've been fascinated with motor scooters and motorcycles all of my life and after 50 years I did the opposite of most people. After owning my last 3 cycles a 2002 1800 Goldwing, 1989 1500 Goldwing, and a 1975 Kawasaki 900 Z-1. I downsized to a 1996 Helix with 22,000 miles a few years ago and spent the first pre-riding season performing a complete replacement of anything needed to be completely road worthy which included new tires, all of the CVT system, and all fluids replacement. This one is a true classic and will be my last keeper in life as it is really fun to own, drive, maneuver, and is lightweight. I don't miss pulling in a clutch, all of that shifting gears, trying to balance over 800 pounds compared to 350 now, and I usually cruise at 55-65 mph effortlessly with a 75 + mph top end. Sure all of that power was a real rush in the past but I'm having more fun now while being satisfied with having a lot less.

    I've had 3 helix, my last one is a 2007 I've had it since 2010 with a top case it's my grocery getter but your not bringing many items from home Depot. Absolutely love it, also have a Honda reflex and shadow. Helix, the Cadillac of scooters.

  • @LockRocker
    @LockRocker Před 4 lety +4

    I picked up a 1987 Helix to compliment and extend the life of my locksmith service van. The Helix trunk fits a fully loaded over the shoulder tool bag, cordless drill, and other projected job supplies. In the city loaded with me and tools I get about 59 mpg. Interestingly, the honda dealer here says mine is a bit of a rarity, built exclusively for the Canadian market, and somehow made it to the U.S.A. It has a factory spoiler, the odometer reads in Km, and dash panel has the name "Fatten" in the spots that normally say "Honda" and "Helix". The Helix name is however located on the hood and trunk.

    nice video, am a helix fan and rider for 2 years now, in uganda, helix bikes are popular and most known for high speed(some people think its a 300cc bike), durability and easy to maintain. i have traveled almost three quarters of the country with it. i have owned various models of scooters, but the Honda Helix has never been challenged. though some of its spare parts are hard to find in our regions (brake lights, indicators, wind glasses). i really like, actually love my honda fusion/helix/spazio CN250. for whoever is willing to buy one, please don"t fall back. #OneHeart

    Bought one new in 1987 in Okinawa, Japan. Drove it to work and it took both of us all over the island. Really enjoyed it. Not a fan of the higher speed, though. Followed a Japanese motorcyclist up the highway next to the South China Sea with a strong crosswind. He was tracking straight with his larger wheels while I was all over the lane. Brought it back to Illinois and sold it just before returning to our home in Florida. Wished I had kept it. It would have been great for the Jacksonville area ... though I preferred to slower side roads. Great scooter. Folks said I looked like Fred Jetson.

    Hey man, can I ask what you paid for this beauty? This is morbid curiosity on my part because I bought an '86 with right near 10k on it for $1,000 but with dry rotted tires, bad front bearings and potentially an oil leak but possibly just an old or loose gasket on the drain plug. The engine and CVT seem great but with some idle issues that I think are due to a low idle, which I'll tune tomorrow.

    • @jasonswiatkowski9127
      @jasonswiatkowski9127 Před 3 lety

      If you can, it can. The engine is understressed, meaning it can only deliver about 80% of the power it can make. You cant redline it. Go 70mph all day long and you wont hurt it. That said, interstate riding isnt for the inexperienced or timid.

    • @papaballoon
      @papaballoon Před 3 lety +2

      @@jasonswiatkowski9127 i have the "super helix" a Yamaha Morphous . Basically the same concept.. just very slightly "improved". A couple of points. Top speed is slightly higher (5 mph or so) engine is slightly larger (249 vs 244) hp 21 vs 18. 13 inch wheels vs 12/10. Discs vs rear drum.
      And i owned a helix for 2 years.
      Cross winds make the helix dance.. but not the morphous. No issue to tho. Yes highway is fine.. but...i like 55-60 mph.

    • @papaballoon
      @papaballoon Před 3 lety +2

      Im going to post another bit here.. ok.. can a helix do highway speeds.. yes.. and the engine will be fine at WOT for a long as you wish. (70-75mph) my morphous is designed the same way.. been there, done that. On both a a matter of fact. The question will be.. do you want a10 inch wheel spinning at that speed? It's fine.. but much faster and you really need a bigger wheel. The morphous and most other large scooters have larger wheels. 13 or 14 inch..
      To me tho.. the idea is that i ride for fun. Even in my car i tend to drive 60 mph or so.. and prefer secondary roads to interstate highway. In a semi, ii have like 2 million verifiable, logged miles. Plus at least that is cars and on motorcycles. I HAVE SEEN LITERALLY EVERY INCH OF INTERSTATE I WISH TO! I just took a2000 mile trip and the ONLY time i saw the super slab was when crossing it. I literally drove the entire way with very little traffic. To be honest..i only have a 250cc yamaha because it will easily carry 2 adults.. i would rather have a CT125
