I ride a Harley and I would still love to add one of these to my collection. I think what some people don't understand is a motorcycle is like a muscle car or a sports car but a scooter like that is like a luxury car. It's a completely different vibe but enjoyable in its own way. There's nothing wrong with a scooter man.
I honestly think you've summed up "motorcycle vs scooter" the best, and until now I haven't read or heard anyone put it the way you have, even from "professional" writers and reviewers. Motorcycle = brute power, muscle/sports car performance that gets you there in style; awesome to look at; very little if any utility Scooter = minivan/small suv performance that simply gets you there; can either be charming or ugly to look at; lots of utility and convenience
I have a '99 Helix with 39,000 miles. Three years ago, my wife and I rode it from Northern Michigan to North Carolina, and rode the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I bought a 1986 red Helix In 1997. It has 60,000 km, My wife ride it on a trip from Montreal tó Los Angeles 7,000 km. A few weeks ago oil got on the drive I could hardly come home. I have spare parts and a friend will fixit. I am 94 year old still riding it. But to old for my 1100 cc BMW. It has one design problem. You cannot make a sudden left to right movement with the steering, You feel the bike is torquing.
I just bought a 2005 Helix and I love it soooo much! It has a small crack in the fairing so I am fixing that and probably doing a custom vinyl wrap to it. Probably the best non-Italian scooter ever made and one of the best overall.
I bought a yellow 2004 in December 2019 and love this bike! SO comfortable! Mine came with a top box; but not a windscreen, which I’ve seen for $125. If I top it off, I’ve made 150 miles driving mellow. Been on a couple 160 mile road trips. 👍
I just got my first helix, it’s the first year they were made 1986 with 23k miles on it, paid $850 witch to me is a steal! I ride it 200 miles a day on the highway at 75 all day
I used to call my Helix......my Baby Goldwing because. Of the comfort seating. It was no slouch in speed. Doing up to 75 mph. Great Scooter. One of the very best most fun vehicles ever
I drive with my Helix ,1985 Bj. 250 ccm ,17 PS , 140 Tausend km .One Stop , the helix had an oxydation Problem in the Elektronik .no problem .in all the years i testet many Tyres on this scooter .The best is Bridgestone Tyres. The best scooter i drive in my life . All repair i do it .
Super thorough review! I wish I could get these, but I'm limited to 125cc and just bought the next best thing, a Piaggio Hexagon here in Germany the other day.
With a scooter like the helix you’re getting a longer wheelbase lower center of gravity more than enough power excellent mileage reliability dependability (it’s a Honda after all)a lot of people think they can ride a motorcycle really great until they get into a situation where someone stops short in front of them and they’re in high gear clipping along and then they have to make an all out emergency stop that will require their complete and undivided attention you have to be able to keep the thing from skidding out from underneath of them and try to remember to downshift but not too much but not too little because after you stop if you manage to stop without wiping it out or hitting the car in front you gotta be able to takeoff instantly because nine times out of 10 there’s traffic coming behind,,,,if you wipe that bike out they’re gonna run right over top your machine and if you can’t get going fast enough because you forgot to downshift just right and you’ve stalled out that’s not gonna be good either,,,a scooter allows you to concentrate on your driving they don’t have a clutch like a motorcycle so you won’t be doing monkey a$$ shi+ like wheelies and aerobatics and other theatrics and there’s nothing to shift you concentrate on what you’re doing I believe they’re a lot safer overall compared to motorcycles that you have to shift
Nice scooter. I bought a scooter (125cc engine) a couple of months ago as my method of transportation from home to work and viceversa. Mine has the brake levers on the handle bar (just like a bycicle). It also has a small fuel tank (a gallon or something). Great video!
I have an 03 Reflex and love it. I like the Helix also. I just put new tires on it, it runs like new, smooth as silk, plenty of power. I understand why these scoots are so well loved!
I would say the reflex is better overall and then I have the scooter that's better than the reflex which I just got which is the Honda for 300 ABS 2015
*I saw one in 'Silver-Pearl Gunmetal' paint, and it was flawless!* ( *Something you didn't mention are the 'leg-warmer heat-vents' behind the fairing that actually do work* ) *I think the main problem Honda had with this model is the over-all length creating higher shipping costs in export* *It means passing-on the costs at a dealership, and people get weird over having to pay it* *Even the 250 'Elite' series is not as good as the 'Helix' in terms of safety & comfort in riding because the l-o-n-g wheelbase eats pot-holes and pavement cracks with no problems*

Just acquired a '99 Helix myself & am loving it. I'm curious to know what kind a trunk that is that you've got mounted on the back, the black one w/ the chrome grill on top. I'm looking for that one or something similar, as the biggest reason I bought it was to tour around my region & scout potential photography scenes, & if I could find that kind of trunk & then get some custom-cut foam It would be ideal for carting some of my camera gear around.
I got a helix back in 1990 and ride it for 2 years.. traded it off for a pc800.. bad idea.. not suitable for me at all. I looked for one for a long time.. but! Found a morphous (yamahas answer to the helix!) And for a while I had a Majesty as well.. scooters fit MY life style perfectly. I still have the morphous and it is the"perfect" bike... for me... the helix is a great bike!
Very cool I would love one. And I ride a Honda shadow 1100 sabre, we have a Honda forza 300 its also awesome love riding it . was considering selling or trading it for one they are so light and comfortable
I was gonna get one of these but I don't like the really small Wheels makes me a little nervous also I decided to buy a Honda forza 2015 with ABS brakes fuel injected which makes a big difference and I don't really believe these bikes can do 80 I tried out a helix on the Freeway I was only hitting 72

Honda also changed the bike in a way in which the Side Stand must be in the lifted Position to start the engine. If the side stand is still down in the newer Helix Scoots, the engine will not start.
Just saw a 98 model on Facebook market. The only thing that seems wrong with it is that the front end’s plastic is cracked from the owners kid running it into their fence. Does anyone know if these things are carbureted, or fuel injected? And if the plastic on this thing is hard to replace? (Would have it inspected at a shop to make sure the innards and engine are good!)
As far as the plastics, there are many manuals and how-to guides online you can find to replace the plastics. The owner's manual is the first place to look though. Most of the plastics are just held in with phillips screws and pop in tabs. Should not be a hard task at all!
Honda knows how to build small engines. This thing can run at red line for hundreds of miles. Try that with a regular motorcycle (or car for that matter); just be ready to fork out for some engine work. Don't know why they would discontinue these, They're a barcalounger on wheels. I would love to have one of them. Unfortunately, I'm just a poor girl. $600? Might as well be a trip to the moon.

The box, yes. The mounting bracket? A little tricky since there was little room for a wrench to tighten the inside bolts but it is doable. The mounting bracket was a separate purchase from the box.
It was Hilux up through the 1970s I had a 1978 and it was one of the quickest and fastest vehicle out of 3 different ones that I owned having the appropriate same horsepower, I still miss it.
They began building the Helix in 1986, and went into full blown production in 1987. They were in the designing stages, but not being built yet in 1983. I know because I used to own one of the very first 1987 Models ever built
I think about 2200. Had low miles, like 4000 I believe. Was a good deal in my opinion. These are hard to find in my area and was the only yellow one I ever laid my eyes on.

The Helix was ended in 2009. 2007-2009 sold in Japan and S.E. Asia only.

The Helix was discontinued a second time in 2007, and Honda has never brought the Helix back into production in the USA since 2007.

The backrest came as part of the top box I received from Amazon. It did not come from Honda.

To my knowledge, all of the Helix ever made are the same engine and all are carbureted.

Im 6’3” 315 pounds and i fit on my helix comfortably. I believe the weight limit is 400 pounds and its long enough that it can accommodate longer legs
Keep an eye on your local Craigslist. They pop up now and then and usually go for around $1500.00
I really wish they would have sold that one in Sweden where I come from, would have to import one, and that seems too much of a hazzle. :/
