- In this video, I show you a subscription alternative that I did to my Hydrow rowing machine. Here is a way to cut the subscription cost during these tough economic times. An answer to the JUST ROW massage. belted galloway homestead
Freaking genius. Thank you!!!
OMG.. this came out of no where. Great video. Great HACK....
Thanks for the comment. It is a minus 10 degrees here in Minnesota. Inside project!
OMG! Your a genius! I will be doing the same to mine!
This is cool. I cracked my monitor screen so I might give this a try. Sounds like a fun project.
👍
Yea Buddy!
So now that the subscription cost is going up to $44, and I also have a Peloton subscription, this is a great alternative. I want to just sell my Hydro and get a Peloton Rower for one subscription.
TVs are very low cost now! Make sure you get the correct bolt pattern.
Very well done video--thank you. how did you attach the screen to the monitor stand? So you still have to pay for the Roku service ($30) a month versus the $44 a month for the Hydro. Is that right? Best!
Thanks for reaching out! The screen bolted right up. No need for an adapter. Same bolt pattern.
I do not have Roku paid service. I watch the free part of it. I also watch the free part of CZcams. No monthly fees.
@@BeltedGallowayHomestead I own the Oculus headset. One additional hack could be to use that while rowing on the Hydro. thx!
@@MrDcrules that is the next level. Thanks for the idea!
This is a great idea but how did you get the screws to fit through the mount into the TV? I tried this but the Hydrow screws are too skinny for the TV and the TV screws were too thick for the Hydrow bracket.
Thanks for reaching out. Mine bolted right up with no modification. Sounds like your TV has larger diameter screws. You may need to drill out the holes in the Hydro mount. Keep me posted on what you do to resolve this issue. Thanks!
Love the hack. Very disappointing that this equipment costs so damn much, and they're so stingy with the amazing looking screen. Why should they care if I'd rather watch netflix than buy a 44/month subscription. If I knew that they were as bull headed as that up front, I would have never gave them my money. There's way too many options, much cheaper, and much less selfish.
Great video! Does doing this void the warranty?
Great question. The warranty is one year. Unless you didn't purchase a subscription. Both should run out before you do this.
just get some extension cables for your hydrow monitor and you can have it hooked up to adjust drag anytime you want.
Awesome, thanks for the update. Additional info, if you unplug your rower the drag will need to be reset.
I’m looking to get a bike. I have a few in mind but I can’t decide yet.
• Rogue Echo Bike.
I like the idea or doing short intense intervals without having to keep a subscription.
I don’t like that it’s so noisy.
• Peloton Bike Plus.
Only because everybody thinks it’s great , so I kind of feel influenced by that.
I don’t like the idea of paying a subscription to cycle.
• Concept 2 Bike.
Just like Rogue, it sounds like a fun bike. Easier for longer intervals.
I didn’t give this much thought. But maybe it’s a possibility , if it’s better than Rogue Echo bike.
Keiser M3i.
Looks great, excelent built quality. No subscription. Can be used with anything you have on your tablet or simply by itself.
Thoughts?
Sorry, I have no experience with bikes. I didn't like paying the rowing subscription. Thanks for reaching out.
I’ve tried this, but the resistance seems to be lost at some point after removing the screen. After setting the resistance and removing the screen do you power the rower off, or leave it on?
Great question. I found that I need to leave the rower plugged in after setting the resistance level. If I unplugged the rower, the setting was lost.
I purchased these two cables from amazon so I can keep the old control panel connected for easy changes.
Amazon Basics 3.5mm Aux Jack Audio Extension Cable, ASIN B01CNAUYBY
Dc Power Extension Cable, ASIN B07VQDJ5TX
I set the old control panel on the front wheels and lean it back on the frame. Hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out!
You’re awesome. Thank you!
is the 15 minute limit for "just row" still enforced if the original screen is disconnected?
Great question. I have not expierienced this. I would expect Hydrow to make a programming change to prevent people from doing what I have done. I did find that the rower needs ro remain plugged in to maintain tension setting.
Is there a way to make it a dual screen setup?
That would be a lot of weight, but maybe. Thanks for reaching out!
Were you able to connect the two wires from Hydrow to the TV?
Great question! No, I was unable to find any way to connect the auxiliary monitor. I did find that if the rower is unplugged, it will lose the tension setting. You will need to connect the two wires back to the original panel to reset that setting. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I ordered a new monitor since this one was damaged. It was fun hooking up the tv to the rower. Now I feel this is way too small. The TV I hooked up to the rower is 32”.
@@Marian1st. It is nice watching the big screen. Thanks for the update!
How do you know how much you have rowed? I like knowing my progress.
Thanks for the question. I have an exercise tracker. The one I have is a Whoop. On the app, I can select the activity of rowing. It tracks my heart rate and time. I simply row at a pace that achieves the heart rate I need for a duration of time. Thanks for reaching out!
Apple Watch ⌚️ can track rowing workouts as well
Think twice before you buy a Hydrow. The forced subscription ruins the experience. Can't row without internet. Won't store stats without subscription.
