  • The Helikon Tex Hybrid Outback Pants are a piece of outerwear that I was intrigued by for a long time...but never bought myself a pair. With a very long and challenging hike coming up, I knew having the right gear would make or break my experience...so I finally got a pair. Wow, am I glad I did. These pants not only feel performance...but they definitely are performance outerwear. Highly recommended.

    Definitely looks like an attempt at making their own version of the keb trouser. Would be interesting to see how their canvas material holds up long term vs Fjallravens G1000 (I've got a pair of vidda pros I wear on a weekly basis, and theyre atleast 4 years old and still look brand new)
    Cool pants dude!

    • @outerlimitless

      The Vidda Pros are really hard to beat...they are pretty much bullet proof...but I melted a hole in mine!

    • @tBesht
      @tBesht Před 3 lety +1

      They're less than half the price of the Kebs and every bit as durable and performant. Can't beat em

    Currently run UF-Pro P40 pants when I'm out hiking. They're tanks and have never let me down but these Helikon pants might be my next acquisition because they're cheaper but still offers stretch fabric and durable fabric where it matters as well as many pockets and other similar features as the UF-Pro pants, and they just look lighter.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 4 lety

      Yeah, so far they have held up. They have some areas that have rub marks from packs and such, but they are durable enough for my needs. I am very happy with them.

    those velcro closed front pockets are great for a phone and a compact wallet. i use helikon tex urban tactical pants pretty much daily which are almost the same as these

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 4 lety +1

      I have both...these won't be quite as tough...but they are also more stretchy. I would say these are closer to the Keb trousers than the Vidda Pros if you had to classify them.

    Nice review. I am curious as to how you find the position of the knee patches with being tall yourself. Are they in the right place for you? When you kneel down do the knee patches contact the ground?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 4 lety +1

      I'll have to double check that specifically. I don't recall having and concerns...I think it's well lined up from what I recall, but I'll get back to you.

    • @willadams6217
      @willadams6217 Před 4 lety

      @@outerlimitless thanks. I recently got a pair after watching your video and I really like them but feel the double knee area is a little too high, I seem to kneel on the very bottom of them or just on the seam. I'm only 5'10" but usually go for a long leg. It's a common problem I find. Best is 5 11 tactical but most manufacturers I find keep the knee patches in the same place on the long leg lengths as they are on the regular leg lengths. Should be positioned lower really on the long leg lengths.

    • @outerlimitless

Asking because I’m considering using them for hunting big game and want to make sure they don’t make noise that will startle game.Thanks keep up the great reviews

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 3 lety

      They're not terribly noisy, but I'm not familiar enough to know how quiet you need it. I would say mostly quiet, but a little swoosh...you can sorta hear while I hike what they sound like...my camera mic is pretty good.

    I may be wrong, but I think those cargo pockets were inspired by 5.11 Apex pants? Or maybe something that was even before Apex?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 4 lety

      Honestly...I'm not really sure. Helikon uses similar layout from line to line, but the details change like fabric or configuration.

    Do they make a winter version of those pants. Montana and Wyoming are in the news for the snow they received. Did you guys get any yet?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 4 lety

      No they only have the one thickness...they are rather light weight. I would love to see these as a thicker option as well. No snow here yet...usually not for a couple more months. I hear it already got pounded out there.

    I dont for one second doubt the quality of another piece of helikon tex gear but whenever you say the "brunt of the blow" referring to some mud I would question your definition of high quality. Just a bit of constructive criticism for you; i mean no harm.
    Also id like to add you mentioned only 3 colours however there are currently 10 colours i believe.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 3 lety

      Ok...so first off this video is nearly 2 years old. And at the time there were only 3 colors... you're a little late to the party to criticize that one. As far as the durability... do you think I'm only calling stepping in mud the definition of durability? I was simply making the point that they are water repellant enough to keep my socks and shoes dry even when stepping deeper into a sloppy mess than I would like. I stand by my comments... as I find them relevant to the performance and protection they serve.
