Cabover Peterbilt Breaks Down Hauling 6X6 Truck

  • Peterbilt 362 breaks down while hauling a 6x6 Oshkosh. We have her towed and repaired. Only to find the repair done did not fix the problem. The truck dies in only 20 miles. Road Service got her temporally fixed and we went back. After complaining I finally got them to look at replacing the faulty wiring. Eventually, they found severely corroded connections into the main distribution bus feeding 100% of electricity to the cab.
I will say the only reason I let Peterbilt do the repair was I was unable to locate the issue quickly on the side of the dark, foggy interstate while thinking I could be rear ended at any time. It was safer to get her towed away and complain about a large repair bill later.

Despite the minor problems with your Pete, I would gladly take it over any of those other trucks at that repair shop. The sound, the power, the smell of diesel and the look of the classics cannot be beat. Your videos don't just show the glamorous side of trucking but the trials and tribulations of the trade as well. Thanks for sharing!

Speaking from the Fleet Ops mechanic side You would normally not see many Autos in a small company but with so many young cowboys out there you could just imagine the carnage & destruction of a large fleet of locally driven hourly wage earners of Non professional race car drivers cowboys & your everyday show off who figured out you can actually lift the steer wheels off the ground just like on street outlaws with a manual transmission ...so Yeppp...I'm.glad all they have is Automatics leave the road rangers to actual professionals ..

True for over the road trucking, but that's a 6x6 , probably operates mainly offroad. Usually when you drive in deep sand/mud you can't shift a 13 speed at all because as soon as you take it out of gear you're stopped again.

I'd be getting into that wiring, and putting all the ESSENTIAL electrical circuits, like the fuel pump, side lights, and ciggy lighter socket or whatever socket you use to charge your phone up(as the phone as well as the fuel pump is vital) etc, into either a NEW circuit breaker box, fed STRAIGHT from the battery, or, just one of them in-line fuses, just for the fuel system.

FSC Speed Shop 🇺🇸Sorry to hear that it took 4 times! Whew! Was it a harness/connector or combination of things? I had a C800 Ford that had the same issue and it was a gas engine. The connector was located right behind the grille and it pulled loose after some time. One of those things you have to deal wit when on the road, huh? That wallet thing has really helped me over the years, even when driving a car. Just have to make sure that I don’t leave my wallet behind when I walk away. My chiropractor liked my story about it. Stay safe, my friend. Porter Dude of Ohio!

Great video but I don't think I would care for that style of drop neck... I had the engine for the neck in the bed of the trailer between the rear axles and that was nice and clean and never failed me... not liking the double hitch idea for me as getting down to the ground has always been a problem for me being all crippled up, thank you uncle sam. I just made it as easy as I could. I don't like the power being able to just shut you down like that all that much as electrical problems are the worst to track down at times... miles of wire and only a few things for it to do but that is just the way trucks are. Behind that dash and to the batteries is enough wire for flying a plane almost... I do joke, you can't even go to manual and fire it back up to get off the road should it happen in a intersection. Bummer trip, I hope fixed now. I really would not want to rewire one of those. Thirty six years have gone by and so many repairs over time must mean a lot of wiring.... great video as I said before, I hope I don't come off negative as not intended..

You didn't show it in the video but I'll assume that the operator disconnected the driveshaft before towing? Also, a nice job by the operator backing up your rig considering that there are two pivot points!

We did not drop the driveline as we literally towed it less than two miles. Had it not been foggy and the Peterbilt sign been lit i would have seen it from where I was.

running that style of low loader looks like a pain constantly pulling the king pin. how come you don't run a hydraulic goose neck with a 24 volt power pack run off the truck with an anderson lead? which here in the UK and europe is very common. nice to see another vid of the old girl shame about the 2 break downs but that happens to much younger trucks to. look forward to seeing the next one.

I don't own the trailer. We run these RGN (Removable Goose Neck) and step deck. Also most of what we do are long haul so we don't break the trailers much more than a couple times each week.
