For years, the focus of the jihadist threat has been on the Middle East, Africa and even Europe, but Latin #America is now home to what is considered by many to be the West's jihadist nest: the small Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago.
Jihadism has been particularly strong in the Caribbean country since its Islamic insurgency in 1990, but many analysts now fear that this phenomenon is spreading to Latin America. Brazil is already showing clear signs of this.
How did #Trinidad and #Tobago become the Western epicentre of jihadism? When did this drift towards Islamic fundamentalism begin? Is Trinidad and Tobago just the beginning of a jihadist wave in Latin America?

Why be surprised? There are Trinbagonians who do not love this country simply because they do not hold the reins of power. They will feed negativity to foreigners so they can broadcast it to the world. We are in election mode. 2025. The Opposition Unc is desperate to get back into power by any means necessary as they fund and arm the gangs in T&T. Their brand of Hindu hegemony is what is fuelling this as they have infiltrated and corrupted most Government agencies in T&T. God alone can help us but this information in foreigners hands is straight out of their playbook.

Spain is militantly atheistic at this point.
The only reason they havent gone more progressive is because the Spanish Civil War is still a raw enough memory for enough of their population and they know what happened when they pushed too hard with their anti-Catholic rhetoric.
Their practicing Catholic population is only being supported through immigrants from South America, who are themselves losing the faith rapidly across the continent.
Ireland is so hilariously non-Catholic at this point, that a majority of their population voted to make gay marriage and abortion legal.
Most don't even play the charade of calling themselves Catholic in name only anymore.
Poland is going the same way - give it another 10 years and they'll be on the same level as the Irish.
So no, none of the South American or Catholic-majority European countries are in any way, shape or form, militantly Catholic.
Italy is the only interesting case - they seem to still hold on to various Catholic rituals and beliefs but their demographic decline is so rapid, it won't matter what they believe, as they will dissapear enmasse in the coming decades.

I am from this great country and i am actually a fan of this channel and will continue being a fan but there seem to be an over exaggeration with the topic. Yes there are persons who were engaged in jihadism but you seem to link it entirely with a seemingly 'dire' economic situation and that it is popular and widespread in the country. Trinidad-and-Tobago is probably the most multicultural country in the world where you find a mosque, church, temple in close proximity to each other. I am a Roman Catholic but im sure my Muslim brothers are righteous and would disagree with the over exaggeration. The country has many opportunities for its population and immigrants. Foreign investment is positive and the country is an economic hub for multinational corporations. No investors in there right mind would invest in a nation prevalent with Jihadist. What the country suffers from is organized crime mostly fueled by the drug and arms trade because of our strategic location between the Americas. The society thrives on stability. No country is perfect but your topic needs some adjustments, Sir.

Two small islands being a hotbed for Jihadism, which i accept as a fact, and and some small Jihadist groups in Brazil doesn't mean that Jihadism is spreading across America.
Jihadi_ISM_ means the *ideology* of Islamism and the need for holy war is spreading and that is simply not the case. You haven't give any statistics to back that up.
The few groups may be getting larger or smaller. If they are getting larger then how large? Massive amount of new recruits or a couple per year?

As a brazilian muslim, every other muslim i know in my city is just a chill guy who enjoys normal brazilian things like futebol, coconuts and complaining about corrupt politicians, none of them were ever mean or agressive, the guys in my local mosque look happy just to exist and never caused trouble in this city, the problem isn't the religion, the problem is that 60°c desert frying peoples brains.

Bro, sorry to disappoint you, but the "strong catholicism" died, atleast here in brazil, the spanish speaking countries are a bit more religious, but catholicism in brazil is straight up dead, it got replaced by spiritism and protestantism, i used to be a catholic in the past, then i realized how my family (native) became catholic, it made me kinda mad, so i started researching about it and found out that is pure innovation, true christianity is just believing that a man named Yeshua died for the sins of humanity, there is no pope or saints, after that i left it, became a atheist for some time, and after a cousin of mine who went to turkey brought a quran for me on the way back, i read it, it made sense and i became a muslim.
Currently there are something like 20 other muslims in my town, but im leaving this place for a muslim country as soon as i graduate, will amost certainly go to afghanistan, if i fail i will go to malaysia.

Too many people here aren't aware that Indian Muslims and Arab Muslims make up a significant population of various Latin American and South American nations.
Various global jihadists movements came from the Deobandi Islamic movement in India from the 1920s.
And whilst most Arabs who moved to the Americas were the Christian Arabs, fleeing Islamic persecution or a chance for a better life, as they aged and stopped having children, the Arabs that followed them were the Shi'ites Muslims, who were themselves fleeing Sunni Muslim persecution.
Then you have the African Muslim converts, many of whom were introduced to Islam or a version of it through the Nation of Islam movement, that claimed Islam was the natural religion of Africa and to remove their slave names.
You see that in the likes of Cassius Clay (Mohammad Ali) and Malcolm X, who would later join the more mainstream Muslim groups.
    These movements helped spread Islam.
To top it off, oil rich nations in the Americas were given a taste of Saudi Wahhabi Islam through their connection with OPEC.
So mix poverty + political instability + Islam and you get an extremely explosive boom that is eventually going to come to pass.
To make things worse, Catholicism is rapidly dying out in the Americas.
Most are secular to the point of atheism and the ones that are religious are flocking to more hardline Protestant Evangelical pastors and ministers, who actually care about the faith and actually hold their congregations to a Christian standard that the Catholic Church pretty much ignores.
    So there you go.
Expect it to get alot more worse.

Also groups like Hezbollah and Hamas (regardless of their flawed methods) have completely different goals, than Al-Qaeda, or Daesh… They’re not at all the same thing. The former 2 were formed to resist and defeat the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine and Lebanon. The other groups are fundamentalist- ideologically, rooted. It makes for poor analysis when you lump all these things together and say that there is some kind of a spread of “Jihadism“ in the Americas. Needs a bit more nuance and research.
