  • Mahadev has many aspects and hence he is called by many names.
Such as, he is known as #ardhanarishvara , signifying the unity of masculine and feminine energies flowing from only one source and part of every being. These two energies cannot be separated, and this is a symbol of non-duality.
He is known as #shiva the husband of Mother Parvati. This form shows him as a householder. The festival of #mahashivratri is observed to celebrate the marriage of Shiva and Parvati and it is said that after the marriage, Shiva and Parvati started their domestic life on Mount Kailash.
He is also known as #adiyogi i.e. the originator or source of Yoga. It is said that after enlightening his other half (i.e. mother Parvati), Shiva gave the knowledge of Yoga for the betterment of humanity and thus, he is called Adiyogi.
He is also known as the cosmic dancer i.e. #nataraja who is the source or originator of all activities in the universe, i.e., those who are creation, preservation, destruction, illusion and grace.
In this video, I am practicing natarajasana (also known as dancer pose), an asana attributed to the Mahadev. This asana helps build whole-body strength-balance-and-flexibility. In this video I have sequenced Natrajasana by starting with the preparatory asanas (like, malasana, Utkata Konasana, Anjaneyasana, and Ardha Kapotasana). For perfecting natarajasana, more backbends and balancing asanas can be added to asana practice. Please do ensure that it is practiced on both sides.
There’s one important asymmetrical hand mudra known as Shiva Linga Mudra. This mudra helps not only with feeling grounded but also, relieves stress and activates the root energy center. Practice it in padmasana or sukhsana for 15-20 minutes everyday.
