    Hello, i got some trouble, so maybe you can help me. I use the OG Portafilter, modified to be bottomless, with one wall baskets (single is like 7g, and double like 14g of coffee) for the ec685. I also use a Sage Grinder Pro and already set it to the finest level (via hard grinder settings, not just via button). So if i take a double shot with leveling tool, accurate tamping i get good results (at nearly the finest level via buttons and finest level of grinder) but if i try single shots they extract way to short (at finest setting allover). The singleshots extracts in appr. 15 seconds, but im already at finest level. Do you think the Sage Grinder Pro isnt good enough to grind fine for the single shots or do you have any tips? (Sorry for my bad english)

    • @isaacbenson1631
      @isaacbenson1631 Před 3 lety

      Your single shots should be about 15 seconds the 25-30 second guideline is referring to double shot you should be basing wether you’re at the right grind by taste alone

    Use a bottomless filter and an exact amount of espresso coffee. If you have a coffee grinder as in the video I recommend putting 2 small metal rings that come with the grinder in sizes 0.2 and 0.25 and aiming for grinding grade 7. Of course the quality of the beans and the amount of robusta is important for proper carema and compression of the coffee in the handle

    Nice video, thanks for posting. My thoughts are: you should get a scale so that after filling your portafilter you can measure the dose. It seemed to me that your tamp was maybe a bit light, you should use about 30lbs of pressure. With the unpressurized portafilter you were getting significant leakage from around the side, that may have come from an uneven or too light tamping. I would have liked to have heard your comparison of the taste of the pressurized vs the unpressurized shots - was one better than the other? The unpressurized shot clearly looked better.

Also even if I manage to grind fine that much, I can't get any espresso from the delonghi. So how do you achieve grind that fine and produce espresso?

      @@castillo2u Today I was in local home appliances store and tried to fit Dedica's basket into Krupps' group head and it didn't fit. I found out that those latches in Delonghi's basket are just a little too long and the outside diameter is also to big. After that I've decided to stick with OEM basket from Krupps but buy bottomless portafilter which is dedicated for Delongi (it says that it also fits Krupps machines but it's around 5mm too deep) and throw away this plastic center part (with it mounted on the new portafilter will not fit).

    How much coffee in grams maximum can fit in the pressurized PF and the bottomless PF? I also have Delonghi Dedica and I can only use max 12g coffee. If I use 2 scoops (as suggested in the manual) ~14g, PF wont fit in the grouphead. It wont lock. So I only use 12g. My problem is I need to pull a double shot so i need a bigger capacity PF. Hi what you need to do is hold in the steam button for 10 seconds that will enter the machine inti program mode once the lights are flashing twist the steam dial down to the steam position then press the orange steam button the water will then start flowing from the steam wand make sure to use a big bowl and from time to time switch between the steam wand and groupe head by twisting the steam dial while its descaling so once the water tank is empty the orange light will still be flashing so what you need to do is rinse out the water tank fill it with fresh cold water put it in the machine get the bowl again and put it under the steam wand and press the orange steam button that will then flush the system and empty the water tank once its finished flushing the system flip back up the steam dial and your done i would also recomend the run some hot water through the steam wand and groupe head just to make sure the descaling solution is fully drained hope this helps

      I hope you've fixed your problem. If not it sounds like channeling, which may be caused by a blockage in the basket. This could be due to fine grinds blocking some holes, issues with distribution of grounds, tamping pressure, dosage, consistency of grounds or grind setting. With a pressurised basket this could be due to a holes getting blocked either because the inner bottom is touching the outer bottom or coffee has got stuck.

      Hi there, I also realized that, this machine does produce less cream, before I had another coffee machine Saeco Poemia and it did produce more cream but maybe I still don’t know how to use this machine properly. Next time I will get some other coffee and try, will update more information. Thank you for sharing

      @@od1286 I upgraded from saeco poemia to dedica too and im using the poemia basket. I have a problem of water coming around the portafilter when i extract. Im not sure why is it happening, maybe its just because i dont tamp or distribute the coffee properly

      Hi there, I tried using the Saeco Poemia basket with the Dedica portafilter and it didn’t seem to fit well, just as you are saying. I brought a bottomless basket for this machine and it is working fine now. @@od1286 Nice, guys. I have the same machine (actually EC680) and bottomless porta filter. I think the crema results depends a lot on how old the coffee is and the grind size/tamping. I takes a little time to master the extraction (I've noticed some channeling in your video), but that's it! Keep on rockin'. Greetings from Brazil.

      @@andrewjohnreyes Hi there, the basket we use is for a double shot. If you wish to have a single shot we suggest you to use a single shot basket. That way the tamper will fit in well. Hope it helps!
