Is very very easy to change your own oil, i even take less that 15 minutes doing it. If you have the version with centerstand, is very easy to oil the bike and because the engine has that smoth 4 cilinder power delivery, you can even can have the bike runing while you spray oil your on your chain. The Spark plug replacement is very easy The radiator coolant change is very very easy. The battery change is super easy. I think there is nothing dificult on this bike. Hey Fabian, what are your thoughts on the GS500 v the Fz6 for a beginner? I’ve read all types of opinions but figure your personal experience with a 500 v this bike would be interesting. Thanks!
Hi Michael, I'd say the gs500 is a great beginners bike. It has about half the horse power of the fz6 but weighs roughly the same. Therefore is great at getting a new rider comfortable with the bigger bike feel with less risk but will still do 110mph if pushed. The gs500 does require constant attention to keep going smoothly which can be annoying. However I found it was great for getting me into my own servicing and maintenance when I was new to bikes, and now when the rare time comes to do work on the fz6 I'm happy to do it because its never that much. The FZ6 can be a beginners bikes however the top end power can kick in all of sudden and has been known to catch people out. But it can be gotten used to. In comparison to the gs500 it will leave you something to grow into and will require less maintenance. If you feel you are happy to the give it the bike the respect it needs, it could be a could be a good beginners bike but has the potential to bite your head off. I hope this helps... to give you context. I had my gs500 from age 19 and then got a 1000cc bike 4 years later at 23. So going straight to the fz6 could be an option.
