But it doesn't have to be this way. Don't Give Up is a channel dedicated to simplifying modern worship music so you can confidently and consistently help your church worship through song. Through all the fruitless CZcams searches I find this. The absolute best base line system & theory I have ever witnessed. Huge aha moment! Please keep building on this and thank you for doing. I believe there is a real need for your gift of teaching and encouraging others.
Wow, thank you so much! I'm excited to be releasing more content like this through the year!
I agree 100%. The learning is enhanced by your gentle spirit and encouragement. You are officially my favorite subscribe of the year so far. Thank you!
Best video on yt on this topic! Thanks! God bless you!
I seldom comment on anything I have spent years searching you tube for Christian music for worship guitar . The way you do this is well done there is such a need for this type of instruction for Christian praise music. I love playing the guitar and have been forced to look to secular resources to learn . Please keep posting this kind of instruction.
Thanks so much for the encouragement!@@JeffBurke
DUDE! I'm a rock/metal guy that has been trying to fit in with my worship band for a while now, and these are the kinds of tricks that are so outside of my vocabulary I don't even think about it but I can tell it's missing. This will immediately go into my toolbox. Very grateful for the lesson here, thanks!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful. More content coming soon!
Does this work for a minor key as well?
I think what was really good about this format was you explained an idea, you demonstrated it in two keys over a relatable backing track, then gave a quick back track for a listener to try by ourselves. Good format choice.
Thank you!
This has been a technique I learned listening to Dan Huff during his early sessions in CCM, country produced albums. You can hear this technique on some of early Taylor Swift, Faith Hill songs, etc. So when the worship style shifted from Integrity Music oriented to Hillsongs, Paul Baloche era, i have been utilizing this technique way back until now in our church. You can even double it up like a polychord especially if there is only one guitarist on the worship band. I called this myself technique ostinato chording because a certain notes is repeated over and no matter where the chord goes. Any church guitarist should utilize this technique because it create good spacing on the overall chord movements of a song especially on worship. Another good thing of this technique it stabilize the song's tonality. There are many advantages.
This is a great content. Less is more.
I remember the Paul Baloche era well! And the ostinato term is a great label for this. Great comments, thanks!
Coming from a rock background, and starting at church with acoustic guitar, it’s very easy for me to “devolve” into just playing the open chords of a song when I’m on electric.
Your tips helped me immensely with not only how to find octaves and 5ths depending on the dynamics of the song, but also the power that these “lame” lead lines have when played in context. I saw you only have 2 vids posted so far - I truly hope that number keeps growing! Thanks for the effort and quality you put into this lesson, we all appreciate it 🙏🏻
Your encouragement and feedback means a lot, thank you so much!
Mr Giveup, (or can I call you Don't?), or is that even your real name? You are really onto something with these videos! I've been playing for 50+ years and I'm getting alot out of these... Amazing how sometimes the simplest things can escape our attention... Please keep it up! I'll be watching!!?
Thank you so much for the encouragement! - Dr. D. Giveup
This is great teaching dude. 18 years into playing, I've always been at the stage where I kinda get the basics of theory, but this is one of the few times it's clicked for me on how to apply it beyond knowing the 1-4-5-6 progression. Easiest sub of my life. Keep it up!
Great to hear! Thanks for encouragement!
Wow, I needed this!!!
Can't wait for the course on thirds.
Yeah, currently editing the Beauty of Thirds Course. Hoping to release it before Easter! Thanks!
I love tricks like this that can take my mind out of music mode and into worship mode! Thank you so much!

Wow! You opened up with some blatant honesty. That is very helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
You’ve made this video for me. Thank you.
I’ve went thru it 3 times to capture the jest.
I’ve spent years learning to play the changes and wrongfully tried to apply that here not paying attention that keeping it simple and sparse with progression going on that staying there gives the sound the flight that I want.
Again thanks so much and really appreciate your work and ability to explain in simple terms.
What a blessing it is!
You're welcome, So Glad it helped!
The best tutorials...Demystifying a lot of concepts. Many thanks!!

Great video. Thank you for sharing! I usually can’t get through videos this long but you were dropping great stuff the entire way.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was a fantastic video. Super helpful for someone coming from acoustic and trying to figure out where to start on an electric. I've been doing something similar using the CAGE system on high strings, but without knowing the patterns or why it works. I'll be sharing this with our worship team.
The CAGE system is a really helpful approach for sure. I'd love to hear how your team responds to it! Thanks!
I love this, nobody has ever explained how to play like this! The format of the video is genius. Thanks for the video
Thank you for the encouraging feedback!

What a blessing! I’ve been playing in my worship band since I was about 15. Self taught but every time I tried to learn any theory, it felt overwhelming. This…this is fantastic!! In a wonderful format that I understand and in that “here now you try” style that allows me to retain and apply! Please, please keep making this content! It’s a wonderful blessing to me and others I’m sure! ❤
So glad it connected! More content to come!

Thanks Brother! I transitioned from bass to electric guitar two years ago, and have been finding my way through the darkness. I loved the theory part at the end! Great explanation. I’ve been playing triads and triad inversions mostly so this will definitely give me some more tricks up my sleeve. It will help me write original songs that have that modern worship sound. I owe you a Jamba Juice
I'm so glad it could help!
My goodness this is one of the best theory lessons I’ve ever seen.
Glad to hear it!
Wow.. just amazing! Godbless you sir! I’ve been struggling with playing electric guitar, you can say I’m at a guitar’s block lol. But this video you made gave me inspiration to give it a try again. Thanks so much!
That's so great to hear!
Amazing value!
Glad you think so!
Excellent lesson this is how all teachers should teach, the theory and the why behind it not just "put your finger on this fret on this string and put this finger on that string and this fret "
we all should know the reasons why and what works and why it works, when the worship team switches Keys you can improvise much quicker and better, you because you get to know the fretboard better by explaining this way
I think a lot of people need things simplified more than most realize. Thanks!
Dude your videos are awesome. I’m an older worship leader this helps me play more contemporary and teach the old rocker guitarist in the band.
That's why we're here!
Thanks for sharing. Its really helpful and precise tutorial.
You're very welcome!
I’ve done a lot of these diads for a while and never understood why it was so effective.
One of the most useful things I’ve ever seen. 👍🤘
So glad it was helpful!!
Hey buddy, this was a wonderful lesson! I have been playing for many years, I am an advanced player regarding rock and blues, scales, modes, and more, but even with all I know this was hugely helpful to me, and I will absolutely use this info to play in church. Thank you so much for your video, I hope you make more!
That's encouraging to hear! Even though the channel is focused on newer musicians, it's good to know it still resonate with more experienced players. Thank you!
So clear teaching!
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful thank you. Playing electric guitar next week for the first time and despite being an experienced musician I was a bit stuck for ideas and feeling a bit nervous. Much happier now 👍👍👍
Love it! Glad it could it help. Let me know how it goes.
Very practical and helpful, looking forward to using these in the future in songs without dedicated electric guitar parts.
Glad it was useful!

It took me a while... but I recognize this from: Where is my mind by pixies
I like your guitar sound! How is the sound built? And how do I get it? 🙂
Thank you for the well-taught lesson.. waiting for the next extended lesson :-) God bless you.
Thank you! More to come. But I'll probably keep the next round of videos a little shorter.
Thanks for posting. Very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely fantastic lesson ! Thank you for sharing ! New subscriber !
Awesome, thank you!
Wow this is very helpful 😮 thank you and God bless🙏
Thank you!
Excellent lesson. I just subs ribed. Not only the what, which is immediately helpful, but the how and most importantly the WHY! Please keep the videos coming and I will keep watching and learning. Thank from a 60 year old guy trying to work with a group our younger players
Thank you! That's right! The WHY is ultimately what this whole channel is about. If we just ask HOW these guitarists are playing what they're playing, we'll only be able to COPY their ideas. But if we can learn to ask WHY, we'll eventually be able to CREATE similar things that better fit our band.
Please don't give up making more videos. Gid bless you more.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Great vid. I’m just beginner on electric. Very helpful and informative. I subscribed.
