- After Wes Craven's death in 2015, it was hard to imagine the Scream series continuing without him. With Williamson coming and going from the series, Wes was always the creative lynchpin, knowing the right way to Shepard the series. Thankfully, Radio Silence would hear none of that and provided us one of the better entries in the series. So join us today as we get into WTF Happened To Scream 5.

I've always thought that Tatum was never mentioned because it hurt Dewey so much. The reason I say this is because they do acknowledge her in Scream 2. When Gale, Dewey and Randy are discussing the pattern (that didn't continue), Gale mentions the other victims. When she says, "Tatum," she's hesitant (which tells me she knows it hit him hard), and it cuts to Dewey. Dewey has that look like, "It hurts too much to talk about her."
That's probably just be overthinking it, but that's where I am on that.
Yes. And in Scream 3 when ghost face is pretending to be Dewey on the phone talking to Stone, Stone mentions his "little sister" and even though it wasn't really Dewey, he got upset about him mentioning her death, so yeah that theory makes sense. I do wish they had talked about it more though throughout the franchise.

I'd call it "scream cinco de mayo" or something weird
If Scream 4’s ending wouldn’t have been changed, Williamson’s pitch for 4, 5, and 6 would have been so good. I personally think it would have been a breath of fresh air and something truly different as we have never had a Killer survive a Scream film or a cliffhanger ending.
Jill surviving would have been an amazing plot device. You could just say oh she's in jail, we don't have to worry about her. Then bring her out for future films. You could do the cult of ghostface where people are obsessed with true crime and maybe believe she is innocent, or maybe they start trying to kill Sidney to impress Jill. You could have Jill appeal her murder conviction and get out of jail on some technicality. Then it becomes a mystery whether or not Jill is going to kill again. You could have her have the same exact storyline as Cotton where she become a hero, making her the first former ghostface to team up and take down a new ghostface.
@@1bwash well the original plan was that the ending of 4 was a cliffhanger. Jill gets away with all the murders and then as she is being loaded into the ambulance the police says “we gotta another heart beat in here.” And it ends. Scream 5 was going to be a year later. Sidney survived but has amnesia from what happened. Jill got away with the murders and is going to college. Then the murders start happening again. The new Ghostface knows Jill is a killer and trying to expose her. So Jill has to kill to cover up her guilt. While Sidney is trying to protect Jill because she believes she is the main target now. That would have been such a fresh concept and different that anything we have gotten before and since. Unfortunately, the studio meddled in because they didn’t want 4 to have a cliffhanger ending which is why we get the hospital with Jill Dead. Honestly a Cliffhanger ending, with a killer surviving is something I think the series needs. Because always having a new character be a killer that dies at the end has gotten really repetitive in my opinion.
@@ethanself2667 oh wow! I didn't realize that that's the direction it was supposed to go in! I think you're right, the series needs to be doing something fresh with each installment. 5 was good because it was the first time the opening wasn't a kill. 6 had two separate sets of killers. Sidney not knowing Jill was originally a killer would have been amazing, first time a killer survives.
@@1bwash exactly! It was Kevin Williamson’s original plan. He had the scrip for 4 and 5 written and basic concept for 6 planned. This is also what Wes Craven signed on for. But the studio meddled on so much. I personally wish this is what we would have gotten. Because it would have been completely fresh and uncharted territory. Not really fan of the radio silence’s Requel version of 5 and 6 tbh. More less just feels like watching the first two Screams again (but not as good) in my humble opinion.
I still want to know how a 100 lb. girl was able to lift a 190 lb. man off the ground when she stabbed him.
1:35. In his original ending the hospital scenes never happen and the film ends with the reporters taking photographs of Jill. But the studios were afraid that a cliffhanger ending would affect the box office so they made him change it
I’m in the hospital scene as a nurse. They filmed it at the Wilmington Convention Center. Cool experience but they were crazy strict with COVID protocol
It always surprises me how little people mention the fact that the V in the M now has the double meaning of being a 5, this is even referenced in the film during the Dead Meat cameo when they put an 8 over the B of Stab 8 which in universe is just called Stab

I was very pleasantly surprised by Scream 5 and 6. My expectations were toilet level low but it managed to make me get lost in the mystery and excitement just like the originals did.

I worked on this film as a production assistant when it was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. Neve Campbell and Jenna Ortega at where very nice.

I wish they did more with the recreation of the Macher house. It was unique we got the side yard scene with Chad, but it would have been cool to get a PROPER chase scene through the halls of the house or have a victim (or three) be killed in the attic or in the driveway. The Macher house IS BIG. It's supposed to be this messed up rich kid maze up in a mountain where the police need time to save you. While the finale was great, it didn't make you feel "trapped" like Billy and Stu made us feel when torturing Sid in 96.
This movie had no right being as good as it was. I really enjoyed it!

I don't think the MTV show was bad. I actually liked it a lot, but even I admit its quality declined after the first half of the second season.
This first season is actually very good. The second season, it started to go downhill and then went completely off the rails with the third.
6:12 i totally agree it's time ti let go of the past in order to move forward that was the issue with Scream 4 all the new characters was getting killed off while the original survived you have to take it to the next Level in franchises can't play it safe have to take risk
Tatum was brought up in both Scream 2 and Scream 3.
I just hope they change the formula and do something new. Not partially new. I hope Sidney goes crazy or something like that.

It should have been Gale who died not Dewey. Saying his arc is complete when Gale’s regressed hardcore in Scream 6 simply proves that they picked the wrong legacy character to kill.
Dewey was the perfect legacy character to kill... I have never really cared about him but he was so good in 5 that he became one of my favourites and his death was the "cherry" on the cake for me. I almost cried and that never happened to me in a Scream movie.
@@Hear.myvoice while I agree with his death being the most impactful - his arc wasn’t complete. He was a shell of his former self, living as an alcoholic, and not at peace with his mistakes. You can make the argument that Gale was the opposite and her inclusion in Scream 6 was filler and disrespectful to Dewey’s legacy. They should have left her out of it altogether or wrote her stronger stuff that didn’t fall back on old Gale antics 20+ years later.
@@TheLobster99 I think it was sad and beautiful at the same time that he didn't get a perfect peace/ending.
He was alcoholic because he basically lost everything but he still saved everyone in the hospital and showed how brave he was... Even Richie was like wtf is happening?! His last act was his whole character throughout the franchise.
And yes, I also think Gale's character "development" in 6 was disappointing but that's just Gale. I rewatched the whole franchise and in the 4th movie the writers did an amazing job describing Gale's character and after watching that movie I accepted the Gale in 6.
I also think we couldn't kill Gale before the end of the franchise because she was the one who created the franchise with her books and reports 😅
I don’t think the film is bad, but it’s obviously on par with 3, being that the shooting of the film really messed up the story. With 3, it was the Columbine Shootings, which made the film more lighthearted, and for 5, it was Covid.
The original script had actually given us better kills (especially with Vince, the guy stabbed in the parking lot behind the bar, which was originally going to be him driving and getting out to check on something), but I highly believe that because of Covid, it likely wasn’t put in (or other reasons). Tara and Amber were also love interests, which was removed, likely because Mindy’s actress is actually gay in real life, so they likely changed this for her, but at the cost of making Amber the most obvious ghostface, because she literally has nothing to do, but be suspicious.
Not a bad film, but I think 3 & 5 would have had a better time, if they were pushed back later than when they came out (3 in say 2003-2005 and 5 in late 2022-2023).

Good sequel mix the new cast and old cast Wes Craven would have been proud

There’s no reason for it other than “Meh. We need to kill off a main character so let’s make him useless.”

I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS MOVIE ON SHOWTIME AND THEY PLAYED SCREAM 5 ON LOOP NON-STOP AND I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT. BUT THE ONE SCENE IN SCREAM 5 I DID NOT LIKE IS HOW BILLY LOOMIS LOOKED IN THE FILM HE LOOK COMPUTER GENERATED ANYWAY THAT'S MY OPINION, DEWEY'S DEATH ALMOST BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. THE KILLS, THE WHODUNIT'S AND THE TWIST WE DIDN'T SEE COMING SCREAM'S1,2,4 AND 5 ARE MY ALL- TIME FAVES AND ONCE SCREAM 6 AIRS ON SHOWTIME I'LL TELL YOU HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT.

Scream 5 is my least favorite movie in the franchise. It’s not a bad movie but it plays it too safe for me. It had its moments that I enjoyed

Dewey’s death didn’t bother me as much as how badly they misunderstood Gale and Dewey as characters

@@dirtmcgirt24 I personally don't count the third season. It was truly awful. But the first 2 seasons were actually fun. The characters had actual development and the plot had some strong points. Obviously it's not a perfect show but it was something unique
Both 5&6 were terrible
5 was just…ok - returning characters were great, but new characters were bland and not interesting. Thankfully 6 makes up for it.
The show was so good :). I wish it had a 3rd season to wrap up the mystery.

"I'm Sidney Effing Prescott of course I have a gun" is not cool, it's heartbreakingly tragic. It tells you she is destroyed by what has happened to her.
Scream 5 is utterly disgusting. In theaters, my first watch, I enjoyed it because I like ghost face but the more I thought about that movie, the more cheap it felt. Everything was disgusting, pacing was incredibly rushed but yet so incredibly slow, Vince and Liv were a waste of screen time, and so much more. I can forgive a lot of this if it wasn't for Ready or Not. They know how to make an incredibly captivating slasher comedy, yet everything about Scream 5 is cheap and rushed. The only things that were worth enjoying in that movie was Amber being crazy and being a straight b*tch to Gale (which is strange given that Amber in every other scene is also a waste of space), maybe the hospital scene, and the opening scene (which is solely just because Jenna Ortega did amazing with what she was given). I get that this movie was like an introductory movie for the new cast, which is great, but why kill Dewey in THIS movie and why not make it great while introducing the characters. Gale and Sidney were good, not great, which isn't Neve or Courtney's fault, but if I am going to be honest... in my eyes they can do no wrong, so it's ok. Anyway... Scream 5 is gross, it has been one year and to this day I have not stopped talking about what a disappointment it was to not just sight or hearing, but to ALL of my senses. With that being said, have a wonderful day to whoever reads this.

I personally think it's the weakest film in the franchise purely because it's just not as innovative as the others and imo a lot of ways is a rehash of Scream 4. Yes it's an entertaining slasher, well acted and well made but just doesn't quite have the same magic the first 4 had.
I think 6 is slightly better due to the opening twist, brand new setting of NY and Sam Carpenter just being a more likable character.
Would feel a lot better about deweys fate in 5 if 6 wasn't so goddamn bad
The only issue was Dewey being killed off by her and lifting him off his feet. It really needs three killers at all times. Scream 3 having one is still puzzling😂😂😂

Anyway, obviously if he was the one who did it, they wouldn't say it. It will be revealed in 7 most likely. You haven't even looked at the clues from Craven Something Scary. Look him up. Look up Stu's clues in scream 6.
You also say this "law enforcement" should know but in Scream 6 they didn't even know Bailey's real name and that he was related to the kirsch family. I doubt they would know if he faked his death when they cant even figure out that Bailey is the killer with a fake name working in the NYPD. The police have done little to nothing in Scream 6 and 5. Look at the clues video then come back. While you're at it also look up "proof of another ghostface in Scream 6"
I really hope, in the coming years, that David Arquette has is own painting show like Bob Ross did..

Not only was this crap movie highly overrated , it just wasn't good. Also can people please stop saying this was the best since the original. Most the fools that were claiming that obviously weren't old enough to watch the first when it was released.
i thought five was really good. it was with the times that it was in, the issues surrounding it and all, but was not too much with the messages it conveys.
SNLs parody of Scream with Pete Davidson as Chad was better than the entire TV series of Scream.

Well I will start things off by saying the first two seasons of the Scream TV show are light years better than Scream 2022 and Scream 6! Scream 2022 and Scream 6 are barely OK entries and far from the quality of the first four entries! I will say this right now, the writers and Directors do not care about this series and the writers have no talent which is obvious by how much they have ripped off in Scream 2022, they just ripped off ideas from Scream, Scream 3 and Scream 4 and did them way worst and Scream 6 just ripped off Scream 2 and also did it way worst! The handling of the legacy characters was very sloppy and in Dewey's case very disrespectful! The writers destroyed Dewey's character without any justification for it and instead of giving him a worthy heroic sendoff they gave him a garbage death! Sidney and Gale are shoehorned into the movie and were clearly not originally a part of this story and if the only way they could get Sidney back to town is to kill Dewey off shows how untalented the writers are and the Director's just went along with their poor decisions! The toxic fandom motivation was the writers trying to look clever when in reality they found a way to say FU to anyone who does not like their film! If they wanted to do new Scream without the legacy characters than do a movie without the legacy characters, the TV show showed you can make Scream work with just a new cast! Scream 2022 is just barely OK and that will never change and I just hope in the future it gets retconned and they bring back Sidney, Gale and Dewey in a movie that focuses on them!
Thank you the two recent scream movie, quality is extremely low; scream 4 looks like a masterpiece compared to them.
@@aichdomingiuez3519 Did you hear the Scream 4 camera negative has been located, a 4K will probably happen at some point! Maybe we will get another great entry again in the future but probably won't be until after something big happens in 2030!

Im not putting 5 over the original 3... but definitely better than 4 and 6. and i didnt really care for any of the new characters. they were for me mostly forgettable and came off as younger kids than the teenagers/ young adults we got in the original Scream. and i couldnt believe the storyline of Billy Loomis having a child. i think that was a mistake to bring an old killer back in that capacity. they made Billy out to be some kind of hero in the end, a coach for the protagonist. big mistake when talking about the original killer who had no good in him. and theres such thing as being too meta. im going to these movies to suspend my beliefs and step away from reality and they push too hard with the "im a smart ass kid who knows everything about everything that is horror movies but hey, watch me make the same dumb mistakes everyone does in every horror movie". it got cringey during the 3rd film and the 4th really killed it for me. in the first one the ones that loved horror movies acted off of it. they were killers, they were movie nerds.. not just a group of kids that just KNOW 'the rules' because its cool. to me its just not believable. i believed the characters in the o.g films, these last 3 not so much
