- I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with a Reanimator combo decklist featuring multiple sideboard plans. You can destroy hate with Wear/Tear, dodge it with Show and Tell, ignore it with Sheoldred, or just win with Magus of the Moon! This 300 IQ sideboard plan is tough to play with, but rewarding if you nail it! We can reanimate the traditional creatures like Griselbrand and Atraxa, but we also have spice like Sauron, the Dark Lord and Iona!

ward is an often forgotten ability things have and sauron has a strong version of it that game vs blue white he was the best target to reanimate
I wonder if Stronghold Gambit might be a decent swap over Show and Tell in this deck.
I know, I know, it's the card you play in reanimator when you want to feel like a gigabrain whilst losing, but we've gotten bonus discarded with Grief + friends, and a solid base of the lower cmc creatures. Plus it makes the mana base a little tighter.
Shame we never saw Sauron go the distance, but a fun league nevertheless
Generally speaking, I haven't been impressed with Stronghold Gambit in Legacy now that sb pivot options are better. Even Control decks are just playing so many more creatures than they used to, so it's not nearly as safe of an option as it used to be.

That was the misplay, not because it would win the game but it would win the viewers hearts
@@styyberit also has a very good form of ward that was at least relevant to the game he never got it on board and that’s the reason he went 2/3.

Seems relatively common side-plan in many reanimator decks I've seen him play against on the channel to deal with opposing graveyard hate.
In that last game I think not keeping the Unmask wasn't the correct choice. Unlike Grief, it can take out your own card from hand for no mana, letting you potentially reanimate archon on turn 1. We didn't know what the opponent was playing yet so I believe keeping the Unmask was the optimal play
Very curious to see how this will go, my opinion is that Sauron is cute but ultimately not enough, but we will see.

@@kevinmcq7968 you only draw when the ring tempts you btw, not even when you want or etb..like i said too cute. Maybe in some late stages of the game against slower decks, otherwise there are always better alternatives.
ok but think abhout it for a sec@@Eisenwulf666 WHO even made the one ring in the first place? It was Sauron. Incredibly format altering, 4 mana artifact. Not even the Karn father himself could envision the design
I feel Sauron might work better as the end game goal for some weird control deck rather than trying to compete for a slot in a reanimator deck.
I miss when Chancellor of the Annex was a Reanimator staple. Just feels like something's missing now 😕
Sauron is just bad i.m.o.; it's almost always lower impact than any of your other options, which all function fine enough versus removal to begin with. It's also surprising how many of the white decks (where you would want the Ward to be good versus Plow/Karakas) can just pay for the Ward cost; mainly due to Jitte, Uro, The One Ring and Yorion.
Hardcasting it does come up, but so little that it's just not worth running it over a far higher-impact reanimation target.
The only case I could see for it being correct in a Reanimator list is if you're on Force of Will, already maxed out on Atraxa's, and really want a slot that's both a blue (and black) card (to pitch) and a Reanimation target.

I feel like this league was something special in the worst possible way. Felt like every single round each opponent had the perfect grief proof + reanimator hate opening hand. Im not sure how much I could go "thems the breaks sometimes" and try really hard not to cry.
New to moto, what do you use to look up your opponents history? Or is it just in the moto client?
pretty sure Phil just uses mtgtop8 or goldfish or whatnot, and given he looks at lists and plays against the same opponents regularly it's easier to make the connection, it's basically just taking a minute to metagame on sites that compile league results
mtggold fish has a record of all the mtgo published decklist. So if you go to google and put Opp name plus mtggoldfish they usually pop up

Thanks for the reanimator content! No Sauron in my 75- its not better than any of the usual suspects in my opinion.
ive been playing some reanimator, iona prolly should be in the sb. Also show and tell is pretty good juke vs non couter spell decks but get worse IMO vs decks with counter spells because your often using rituals or petals (or not have mana to play around daze) to cast the spell. I also think that sire is just worse then iona a ruric thar or even a bane of progress (tho that's a nobo with animate dead)
