I just got inspired and felt I need to write a comment on one of your videos to thank you again about the content quality, credibility and neutrality you deliver. we don't need further comments concerning recent drama on tech youtuber space (LTT) but I wanted to tell you, TechTester is the very first channel I open for watching a new GPU/CPU release since few years and what came out recently confirmed the necessity of higher quality content on youtube, which you are already delivering and you should be proud of this.
Your video is fantastic. I've been watching a lot of CPU cooler videos and it's really frustrating when the reviewers compare a product with 20 other products on a line graph. I like your style of comparing the top two products with the reviewed product on a bar chart - it's so much easier to see. The other thing I like is that you installed it in a case instead of a test bench. Other reviewers talk about how 'easy' a cooler is to install but they're all easy when you're just attaching it to a motherboard. I bought the NH-D15S and I had to dismantle the entire system because there's no way to attach the fan with the amount of clearance in the case. I like Cooler Master's solution with the two top screws. Well done. Subscribed!
Of all of Cooler Master's products on show at Computex 2023 the MA824 was one of my most anticipated. Great to finally see an in-depth review. I'm thinking of trying out a decent air cooler vs my Cooler Master ML240L V2 ARGB.
Wuuuuuuuuut?! Noctua would've sent me free mounting brackets when I upgraded from a z390 board to a z790?! I guess the new brackets were fairly inexpensive, but damn, wish I had known this before.
To be honest...a much thicker larger fan will make a hug difference to a cooler. You could achieve 20% bump in cooling efficiency. So if you really want, you can get better cooling with just fans.
Enjoyed the video! I'd like reiterate the benefit of receiving a future mounting bracket with the Noctua D15. I bought my D15 eight years ago and recently received a free mounting bracket for my new build with an Intel i9-13900K. I paid less for the D15 back then, but assuming that I had paid $100 for it, my cost is now not $100, but $50 per system. If I had to purchase the new mounting kit myself, it's only $9 but that 's not the point. The real benefit is that they they even made an upgrade kit available. I think it is an unknown whether those other coolers will even have upgrade kits available for future generations of processors.
@@DETERMINOLOGY Of course, the cooler it self is just a chunk of metal that should last nearly indefinitely. The fans will eventually wear out however, but mine are still going strong.
Impressive on performance and noise fronts. Installation looks simple, as well. My guess about the blue color is they want a signature color scheme/colorway (like classic Noctua or their redux) but wanted a more subtle, somewhat neutral color. I like it, but I definitely understand why just regular black should be the default and this might be better as a special edition. This GT-like fans everyone are making seem to be boosting dual tower cooler performance. This cooler is high on my list for the next ATX build I do, but everyone keeps putting on new coolers so it's hard to say which the best one might be by year's end. Thanks for the review!

Pretty much all high-end modern air coolers perform about the same, we got to the point where the weakest link in the whole system is the contact area between the CPU's IHS and the cooler base plate, not to mention mounting pressure which you guessed it there's no way of knowing if it's anywhere close to evenly distributed. Imagine having to dissipate 250W of heat through something that instead of making proper contact with the entire IHS surface, only contacts less than a square inch with unevenly distributed mounting pressure. Suddenly the main variable shifts away from cooler design performance and begins to fall on mounting pressure, base flatness or how much you overtighten one screw compared to the other one...
Might just be me, but your English has gotten better! Had to check out an older video of yours to double check and yeah... You speak faster and with more confidence. Might just be because of recording messes with everyone at first. But either way, I can tell you have put work into perfecting your craft. You should be proud.
Yeah i agree that price its to high [15 Euro] - I would be interested at under 80 euro's but Noctua Quality, service and fan replacements are top notch. ( I been use my Desktop for over10 years). Paid 90 euro for my D15S, which i thought was already pushing it .
It's still way too expensive, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Frost Tower can do the same for 40USD, or Thermalright Frost Commander 140 for a bit more with better performance, still around 40 to 50 USD. I hope you can test any of those, Hardware Canucks have got many tests of them already if anyone wants to see :)

Noctua's name and signature brown and beige come from the very real "athene noctua" owl, aka "little owl". Noctua was inspired by the quiet, stealthy flight of these birds, who have very aerodynamic wings. They are cute and interesting owls. Pokemon is known for taking inspiration from real animals for most of the pokemon names and designs. Noctowl was probably partly based on the athene noctua owl. Noctua did not copy them, they both copied nature.

for a peaple looking to game on a cpu cooler that dousnt turn into a rocket ship when playing cpu intensive games this is the one. i recently build a pc with a waterkoeler that got extremly loud when playing battlefield with a 7800x3d battlefield is cpu heavy .so i sold that one and build a new pc with a air build this is the cooler i used a iam super happy becouse i can finally game witth a pc that at all times is around 600 to max 900 rpm and always keeps the cpu under 75 celcius and to hear the cpu i have to turn off all the sound and activly listen .
In France the Cooler Master MA824 costs 20€ more than the DeepCool Assassin IV and 10€ more than the NH-D15 so they'll need to drop the price a bit for it to be interesting here.
How about running it with just the middle fan? Clean look + RAM compatibility might be worth it. In case of Noctua, the difference between the D15 and the D15S is pretty negligible.
In the past it was usually +2-3 C at similar noise levels, so a MA824S is probably viable. Didn't test it though, it takes a ton of time as it is just testing and retesting everything.

From what I see, the right side tower has a cutout of sorts in its lower part so even tall RAM sticks should fit underneath. One of them would probably be hardly visible, though (thinking of RGB setups). However, the entire cooler would IMO look cleaner without that 120 mm fan - simpler and symmetrical. I feel we’re seeing a “follow the leader” 🤦♀🤦♂👎scenario with pc part pricing …. Cooler Master could’ve easily come in at around $80-85 USD and blown the competition away🥳👍! Instead they simply did an AMD and brand themselves like premium Nvidia, put their new cpu cooler as a premium product and assume they’re Noctua😰😅😂🤣…… not going to happen! They need brand recognition and mindset of Noctua 😱💪(excellent performance, industry leader, great warranty and support with as mentioned free bracket updates) which needs ti be earned imo. I use Cooler Master fans, monitor etc and love them nonetheless 🥰👍😇
I love that there is movement in the top class of air cooling. I hope the AIO trend dies down a bit and becomes more a visual only argument. Only thing missing now is some real innovation & improvement in performance to start the next gen of air cooling, hopefully.
It's not that simple. Often people confuse the power or the energy of sound with the actual perceived increase in noise to a human. If you compare a 35 to a 38 dB GPU you wouldn't call it twice as loud. In practice, you'd probably say that one "sounds" anywhere from 10 to 20% louder.
Like many of these twin-tower designs, I think it looks best without the front fan. I suspect that it would perform pretty well (or well enough) with just the center one.
I’ve seen some reviews of the pg32uqxr (one of the new Asus monitors) some of them are mentioning a lot of haloing in the corners. Hopefully you review it so we get the lowdown!
Best cooler? It's not all about performance, for the same reason the prettiest women aren't always by definition the ones you would like to live with. 😁 A good example is the DeepCool AS500 Plus, which performs identical to a D15 at TechPowerUp, and even beats it in some tests. The beauty is that does all that with just one(!) heatsink with 5 heat pipes, while the D15 uses 2 heatsinks with 6 heat pipes. Needless to say that the AS500 is lighter in weight, and compatible with more motherboards. They didn't cut corners on the fans either, since they have used the reliable, silent and long lasting Fluid Dynamic Bearing. And to make matters worse for Noctua; their D15 costs $140 at NewEgg Canada, when the AS500 sells for only $69, and I even got it in a sale elsewhere in Canada for $49. That's $91*1.13 sales tax = $103 difference. $103 cheaper, yet you get a cooler with identical performance, much smaller size, lighter, better compatibility, far easier to install, Fluid Dynamic Bearing fans, and they even include LED lighting (even when I'm not a fan of it), an LED controller and all LED cables required for motherboard control. Nice! I saw what they asked for an extra fan on the Noctua NH-D12L; $39! Pay $10 more and you can buy the AS500 for that money. Noctua is by far the most overrated brand in my opinion when people take the time to look at the whole picture. It's the same with this Cooler Masster cooler; yes, it cools great, but costs even more than a D15, which is already overpriced, and again like the D15 it's a major monstrosity, how many heat pipes are they going to add next time? 10? On top of that, if you have to go that extreme to keep your temperatures under the control, and do only slightly better than the competition, then you really shouldn't be using air cooling anymore in my opinion.
Price/performance pretty much the same. Noctua wins for me cause u get best fans quality wise. Personally wouldn't buy neither of these cause.. 1 Noctua or CM = 3x!!! Thermalright Peerless Assassin.
This is going to be a nightmare for me, i have 16GB DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws and i want to upgrade to 32GB, but my air cooler doesn't allow it, lol, beacuse of fan. My cooler is Noctua NH-U14S originaly have 1 (push) fan but i added it another (push/pull) and i'm searching for air cooler that will give my G. Skill Ripjaws enough room for upgrade, or i'm going have to bite the bullet (as some say) and go for AIO 😞. First i'll try to use thiner vibration pad so i'll get few mm space but i doubt it will help. I'm looking now for solutions couse once i'll ordered extra ram, then planing is over. There's so little between them that it basically comes down to price, and in terms of asthetics, Deepcool is a clear winner.
GPU's have gotten heavier, and now the CPU cooler of this size - are the motherboards getting thicker or more stronger to support these components?
motherboards have support at the back and cases come with a gpu support to prevent sag.
I like my peerless assassin 120. Its a beast AND it's only $40.
The Peerless Assassin 120 is insanely good for its price, sadly I ditched it for the Assassin 4 due to looks

Not that I know of :p. Except some motherboards can’t use all SATA ports when all m.2 slots are in use
On the Cooler Master, it looks like the middle fan slot between the fin stacks is wide enough to upgrade to a Phanteks T30x120 fan.
Thermalrights ... you should test those amazing value coolers. From the ba120 to the frost commander and phantom spirit.

Chances of the cooler master and it's fans out lasting the Noctua are remote. Thats why I'd pick a Noctua every time.

They need brand recognition and mindset of Noctua 😱💪(excellent performance, industry leader, great warranty and support with as mentioned free bracket updates) which needs ti be earned imo. I use Cooler Master fans, monitor etc and love them nonetheless 🥰👍😇

I love that there is movement in the top class of air cooling. I hope the AIO trend dies down a bit and becomes more a visual only argument. Only thing missing now is some real innovation & improvement in performance to start the next gen of air cooling, hopefully.

It's not that simple. Often people confuse the power or the energy of sound with the actual perceived increase in noise to a human. If you compare a 35 to a 38 dB GPU you wouldn't call it twice as loud. In practice, you'd probably say that one "sounds" anywhere from 10 to 20% louder.
I recently bought a Noctua NH D15 Chromax but if I'd watched this I would have gone for the CoolerMaster.

Like many of these twin-tower designs, I think it looks best without the front fan. I suspect that it would perform pretty well (or well enough) with just the center one.
I’ve seen some reviews of the pg32uqxr (one of the new Asus monitors) some of them are mentioning a lot of haloing in the corners. Hopefully you review it so we get the lowdown!
Best cooler? It's not all about performance, for the same reason the prettiest women aren't always by definition the ones you would like to live with. 😁
A good example is the DeepCool AS500 Plus, which performs identical to a D15 at TechPowerUp, and even beats it in some tests. The beauty is that does all that with just one(!) heatsink with 5 heat pipes, while the D15 uses 2 heatsinks with 6 heat pipes.
Needless to say that the AS500 is lighter in weight, and compatible with more motherboards. They didn't cut corners on the fans either, since they have used the reliable, silent and long lasting Fluid Dynamic Bearing. And to make matters worse for Noctua; their D15 costs $140 at NewEgg Canada, when the AS500 sells for only $69, and I even got it in a sale elsewhere in Canada for $49. That's $91*1.13 sales tax = $103 difference.
$103 cheaper, yet you get a cooler with identical performance, much smaller size, lighter, better compatibility, far easier to install, Fluid Dynamic Bearing fans, and they even include LED lighting (even when I'm not a fan of it), an LED controller and all LED cables required for motherboard control. Nice!
I saw what they asked for an extra fan on the Noctua NH-D12L; $39! Pay $10 more and you can buy the AS500 for that money.
Noctua is by far the most overrated brand in my opinion when people take the time to look at the whole picture.
It's the same with this Cooler Masster cooler; yes, it cools great, but costs even more than a D15, which is already overpriced, and again like the D15 it's a major monstrosity, how many heat pipes are they going to add next time? 10? On top of that, if you have to go that extreme to keep your temperatures under the control, and do only slightly better than the competition, then you really shouldn't be using air cooling anymore in my opinion.
Noctua for performance, but I love how clean the recent Deep Cool coolers have been looking.
Price/performance pretty much the same. Noctua wins for me cause u get best fans quality wise.
Personally wouldn't buy neither of these cause.. 1 Noctua or CM = 3x!!! Thermalright Peerless Assassin.
Better than Alpenföhn Brocken 4 Max?
This is going to be a nightmare for me, i have 16GB DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws and i want to upgrade to 32GB, but my air cooler doesn't allow it, lol, beacuse of fan. My cooler is Noctua NH-U14S originaly have 1 (push) fan but i added it another (push/pull) and i'm searching for air cooler that will give my G. Skill Ripjaws enough room for upgrade, or i'm going have to bite the bullet (as some say) and go for AIO 😞. First i'll try to use thiner vibration pad so i'll get few mm space but i doubt it will help. I'm looking now for solutions couse once i'll ordered extra ram, then planing is over. So Cooler Master MA824 are you the chosen one?

Plastic, quite flexible backplate disqualifies this cooler in my opinion. It is a shame at such a price.
