      Years ago when I was in the early stages of learning about horse behavior, I would watch a video where Rick is explaining about herd behavior...............and I would think 'what the hell is he talking about?' Finally after studying, watching, and experiencing, I would say 'Oh, I get it. How could I be so dense?'

      I know ... lol Having watched horses in the pasture, without any real idea what they were telling each other. Oh, I understood the pinned ears and the wrong end of a horse, but there is so much more to them. Rick has made it in your face clear and now it's so enjoyable to read their interaction.

    Great footage. The difference between a horse sniffing and snaking is like red vs blue. Snaking is like a coiled spring - tension in the body, ears pinned, lips tense/curled, tail held stiff, etc. It amazes me that people can't tell the difference.

    I’m so excited, today I saw some horses in a field, so I stopped my car , got out, and walked up to the fence one of the geldings started to leave, so I stopped then the gelding stopped and looked at me, I backed up, and he came to me and I petted his neck. Always before I walked straight on and wondered why the horse ran away, I learned from you Rick, thanks, if you were here I’d give you a carrot. Lol. This is a great video. Every year the rodeo would come to town. Well on one occasion a stallion decided to fight. I don't know how the bull got into the arena I'm think the horse may have kicked the gate or the bull charged at the gate that hadn't been secured properly. But it was man vs horse vs bull. The horse put that bull to shame, that bull was trying to gore the horse and man I believe and the mans hand was caught on the strap of the horse shoulder That horse spinned like a freaking gazelle and kicked the crap out of the bull many times (bull thought he was bad ass with those horns) while the bull retreated to make another pass at horse and man, the horse bite and struck the man with every hoof depending where the man was being tossed about like a rag doll. Of course other cowboys got into the arena on horses to try and help the rag doll, but it took such a long time to rescue him. They got the bull out quick enough but only because the bull clearly had enough abuse from the stallion. That rag doll suffered horrible injuries, lucky to be alive. When he finally got out of the hospital he stated to the paper that he would no longer be bronco busting, done with the rodeo.
    What these stallions are doing in this video is quite tame compared to what I saw that stallion do that day. The only thing that stallion was missing was fire flaming from his eyes and nostrils. Happy ending for the stallion, tagged as "no catch" and set free with the wild horses on the ranch. Sigh, but that was 40 years ago. Likely today that stallion would have been put down for he was indeed trying to kill both man and bull.

There was a foal who had a similar coat color as Cloud, but was in another herd. „He might will never know who his real father is, but something tells me he can feel who’s blood is running through his veins (Something like that)

    That is so cool. You could be looking at Mr. T's great great great great grandfather lol. Isn't there strict guidlines to follow in owning a mustang? Like they have to have so many acres, hopefully making it impossible to get in the hands of being boarded up in a stall all day. I think that would kill them. I saw on tv this Western Pleasure Horse show and that is so freaking unnatural for a horse the have his head down around his knees at a trot or canter, a walk maybe. smh so so sad, idgets are everywhere. toodles debs from Texas

    In the full video, the guy says the mother of the foal ignores it and eventually the stallion kills it (or what was he trying to do?) but what could be the reason for that, the foal looked pretty healthy on first sight? I thought this almost never happened without stupid humans involved? ;)

    • @theblackrabbit7750
      @theblackrabbit7750 Před 6 lety +7

      He didn't specifically mention who the mother was, he just said "the mares ignored it". Something could've happened to the mother, they could've been seperated. Maybe the baby was born from a different stallion.
      The narrator mentions " the stallion tried to carry it to the mares" but I think thats a bit of a stretch and just him humanizing the situation. The scene is very edited and shows very little so its hard to say but stallions have been known to kill newborns so that the mother goes back into heat and he can mate her. There are a few videos on youtube of stallions attacking foals.
