  • The Cobra One Length Irons concept has gained popularity quickly with the growth, both literally and figuratively, of Bryson DeChambeau's game. He and Cobra combined to design irons with the same length in order to create a repeatable swing plane.
    The Cobra RAD Speed irons are available in the One Length concept. In this video, 2nd Swing master fitter Thomas Campbell conducts Trackman Testing with Cobra RAD Speed irons to identify the benefits of Cobra One Length irons.

    Thank you. Its nice to see an objective one-length review. I've been playing them for going on 5 years now 5-LW. This past season I played mostly with my regular irons, basically as a revisit to see if I was getting the advantages that I thought I was getting from OL. Long story short, I started missing the OL irons. So, I found a great deal on some Cobra SZ OL irons, 5-G and picked them up. I mean, I still have a set of F7 OL, but I never really liked the 5i in that set. The SZ 5i is better, but I may swap it out for a regular length 5i. I have all winter to figure it out on the SIM, so no hurry. The rest of the set is definitely in the bag.

    If gapping can be perfected with the one length clubs, I see absolutely no downside. Removing variables from the golf swing and making it more efficient is a giant upside. One important caveat, however, is that once you get to driver and fairway metals, you no longer have the same length club. That’s where I could see potential trouble.

  • @kymstock1852
    @kymstock1852 Před 3 lety +3

    The issue I see with OL irons is that unless you have the high swing speed like Thomas, the gapping distances for the strong lofted 4,5,6 irons gets too close. That is where the Cobra OL hybrids come to the aid of players who want to keep to the one length concept. If the slower swing speed player isn't concerned about using variable length irons, the iron-hybrid style ( Cleveland , Wilson, Tour Edge) will give him/her the height required to get proper gapping between the fairway woods and higher lofted one length irons.

      I use to be short hitter and now hit my 7 f9 185 -190
      But the 4-5 hybrid help the gappings and trajectory a lot even now
      My 4-5 can go further than my 6 pure but sense it’s not all the time the 4-5 hybrid gives more consistent gap and really helps out ruff and bad spots

  • @JDSFLA
    @JDSFLA Před 3 lety +1

    I have been thinking of going 1-length for three years, but reviews back then indicated that the longer irons had a lower ball flight, reduced descent angle, and shorter gaps between clubs. However, your test appears to indicate that these issues are gradually being eliminated. Your 1-length 5-iron shots were actually two feet higher. so I assume descent angle is also good. So I would expect Rad 1-length irons to have good stopping ability versus prior models (for longer irons). I can accept a little less carry (six yards for the 5-iron in your test) in exchange for better consistency, especially as I don't play often enough to maintain such a repeatable swing as yours.

    From my higher handicapper perspective (around 20-23) I'd have to go for a OL set with a 4 iron as well. Otherwise you're going for OL purely just to be able hit a 5 and 6 a bit easier. Is that really worth the longer 8-9-PW for those two clubs?
    Plus the longer irons are going to have less distance gap between them for higher handicapped slower swing speed players.
    I dunno, that's what I'm thinking when I see these sets even though the concept is very interesting to me.
    So that 4 iron on top is an extra cost to factor in, plus you'd maybe need a OL GW on top as well to stay consistent through the set.
    Would I be better off going for a 5-PW SL and then getting a 4 and maybe 3 hybrid (Which I have a 19° in my current set and hit pretty well tbf).

    Having different lie angles throughout a single-length set is insane. Because the clubs are all the same length, changing the lie angle will affect ball flight for no good reason.
    With a single length set, the gap wedge should feel exactly the same as the 7-iron.
    Length is responsible for about 15% of carry distance. So, yes, the SL gap wedge will be a bit longer unless it was designed not to be. If there is a significant gap issue, that's on the designer and should not be there. You can fix some or all of it with loft adjustments.
    Static loft changes affect dynamic loft. You want that.
    It is normal to see a compression of gaps as you progress through the set, especially for slower swingers. This sometimes--for some players--make the lowest-lofted clubs less useful because you hit them all the same length. THIS IS THE CASE WITH STANDARD CLUBS, TOO.
    Notice that the SL 5-iron was a little shorter and a lot more accurate. Right.

    I am a 13 handicap. Struggling on hitting down with long irons so I want to try One length 🏌🏻‍♂️👌. Are RadSpeed / Forged tech both suitable for me?
