Great review. So glad that neither you nor Lee mentioned the words "high handicapper" when describing these irons. That drives me nuts.
I have the Cobra Rad Speed irons (the standard 7-iron loft is 27 degrees, but I ordered them custom at 2 degrees flat and 2 degrees week, so mine is 29 degrees). I am a 58-year-old 2 handicap and play these so-called "game improvement" irons. I just like the look of a thick top line. Heck, I played Wilson Fat Shaft irons 20+ years ago when I was a +1 handicap. I played against a ton of scratch golfers with blades and they used to make fun of my irons - until I kicked their butts all over the golf course. Other reviewers need to STOP using the words "mid-handicap" or "high-handicap" when referring to clubs. I am so glad you never went down that road and I hope you remember posts like this when reviewing these type of clubs in the future. Great job NOT using those terms here. Golfers should use whatever clubs help them hit better shots and score better. Don't think, just because you are a good golfer, that you need to hit blades with the sweet spot the size of a pea. Great to practice with, but I am still not sure why anyone wants to hit a club that punishes you by 10 yards for missing the sweet spot by 4-5mm (which is the width of a single golf ball dimple).
I watched a whole bunch of reviews on these. Went and tested them out along with a bunch of other brands in the price range and loved the. I'm a 24 handicap, hit them a mile with no compromise on forgiveness. Absolutely love them. 5 iron off the tee goes as far as some of my mates 3 woods and I'm in play more often than not.

To everybody that's unsure about strong lofted irons don't knock them until you try them! I did for years until i bought a set of Wilson D9 irons. (27degree) 7 iron. My distance increased along with my dispersion as game improvement iron's. I then bought a set of cobra radspeed irons and got the loft's cranked stronger. (25.5) 7 iron. And the results are even better. I carry my 7 iron 155-160 now versus 135 on my old 34degree set. My 4 iron carries 180-185 and is so easy to use versus my 3 iron that was hard to use and barely carried 160. I still get good height and descent angle to hold greens despite the spin being on the low side. The game is much easier for me now when I can pull a easy to use 7 iron out the bag to carry 155 in to a green rather than a harder to use 5 iron and that's all some people want.

My reduce handicap is with Wilson D9 in last twelve months come down from 18/ to 5.2, great forgiving and distance ,hitting 9iron 150yards now.

Hi Dan, I want to climb up on my soapbox and talk about my experience with moving to a "distance" iron. I am 66 now and last year I really noticed my iron shots to the greens were always coming up short. It was getting to the point of being 125 out and thinking 7 iron.
I started thinking about changing irons, my irons were going on 12 years old by then. After watching several videos about distance improving irons, I decided to look at the Wilson Staff D9 (27 degree 7 iron). I took my 7 iron to the test and did a direct comparison between my Callaway X-20 clone and the D9. The immediate result was 20 yards more carry, and even more after getting used to them. So now some four months later I can look at a 150 yard shot and think 8 or 7, as it should be. Distance is not an issue, but sometimes the towardness is an issue. So I put away the ego and embraced the technology, it's there why not use it. Thanks, I'll be quiet now. Cheers from Texas.🤠🏌️⛳

I have a set of LTDx on order after a club fitting that also looked at Stealth, Callaway, Mizuno and Tour Edge. Can't wait to get those bad boys out on the course!

Its sometimes difficult Colin as the RRP price is different to the actual price the equipment is sold at.

As an owner of a 3D printer, although it is excellent for development and innovation experiments, it is very slow, so if you were a manufacturer making any significant number of units you’d generally be better off just creating these inserts as moulds if possible. 3D printing can be useful for printing matrices where there is non-material as part of the design (like last years putters) and you cannot fill a mould and then extract the hardened product with damaging the mould.
After a less than good experience with player improvement/distance irons, I am convinced that feel and feedbck is more important than max distance/forgiveness. Take your word that the feel is good with these, but I'm going to stick with forged irons that tell me what my strike is and what adjustment I might need to make. Great to see you and Lee. Authentic lads.

I’ve just ditched my brand new p790s for a set of 2015 cobra fly z pro blades and I’m hitting the blades far better. The feedback has helped my strike no end. I’m actually hitting my 34 degree cobra 7 iron further than my 30.5 degree 790. A far better piercing more controllable trajectory.
How do you gap when your 7 iron is 26.5 degrees. How many wedges do you carry. Your basically saying we’ve put a 7 on this club but it’s really a 5 iron in old money
Cobra do make good clubs I’m impressed with my hybrid irons they’re milled face aswell and feel good
I have had the Mavrik irons for a year and I like them, I wasn’t hitting my clubs as far because arthritis was robbing me of swing speed. The strong lofts get the ball further and the tech gets a higher ball flight even with the strong lofts and I don’t have any problems holding the greens. I play a better golf ball that spins but even when I played standard clubs trajectory was what stopped the ball more than spin. The forgiveness in these clubs save me shots as well.

Looks like another great set of clubs Cobra. Still prefer the Forged Tec though. Not so worried about strong irons anymore, just wish manufacturers would put the loft angles instead/as well, a la Cleveland. Great review guys.
I have recently purchased a set, they perform great out of the rough also, which doesn't seem to get mentioned.
Would love to see a comparison in the standard length and the single length. Maybe a little slower swinger

Morning guys thanks for the heads up on James's golf day last week . I have booked a team in for the sat and we are travelling down on the Friday to play the course and stay over ready for the golf day on the Saturday. Lucy me I'm at Bowood Park the following week Sunday to Tuesday.
I recently got fitted for a set of mizuno hm pro 6 - pw , 90 days lead time only another 45 left but who's counting . I currently play ping i500 and feel they drop off at the 9 iron , but lovely clubs to use . I'm hoping the mizuno will help as I get older and less flexible .

I got a set of LTDx irons, 5 to gap plus a 4 hybrid, last week. Special sale to move the previous models to make place for the Aerojets... I hitted all the following irons during my fitting session. Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal, Taylor Made Stealth and Stealth 2, Ping 425, Callaway Rogue, Cobra LTDx and Forge Tec X, Srixon Zx4, Titleist T300. By far, for me both Cobra models were the clubs for me. I was getting pretty much the same results with the LTDx vs the Forge Tec X. What made me decide for the LTDX was the 700$cdn difference in the price tag. So far, all I did was simulator sessions, no choice with 4 to 5 feet of snow on the ground at the moment. Canadian winters... but, I can already say it's an improvement compared to my previous clubs and looking forward to take them out as soon as the courses open for the new season.
I like Cobra products, got a set of F8 irons and I love them, and play a slightly older Cobra Driver - which is due an upgrade. Possibly underrated clubs, people tend to go to Ping, TM, Titleist etc, but Cobra always bring out soild clubs, and always have a little something "funky" going on in the design.
Jamie plays an F9 junior driver, and it's a beast - perfect weighting for a junior, and comes with 2 shaft lengths for the growing player. Even at his age he's hitting it further than a lot of the adults he plays with.
Cobra is a great manufacturer as you say.

I only carry 8,9 and pw in irons, the rest are wedges, hybrids and fairways. Anyone who struggles for distance and doesn't get a good strike consistently would possibly benefit more from going down that route than going for stronger lofted irons.

Loved the honest review. I play F9 one length and have just ordered these in one length. Loved the feel off the face. I think I'm going to enjoy them. The F9s have helped me get from 19 to 13. Can these help me get to single figures?

As a mid-handicapper, here's where I get confused on the loft-jacking issue. I currently play Mizuno JPX 900 irons 5 - PW along with 50\54\58 dg wedges. My 7 iron is 31 degrees, and I usually carry it around 155, and my gapping down to my highest lofted wedge works well - I'm rarely stuck with a yardage I don't have a club for from 175 yards out and less. If I switched to these Cobra's, I would assume the 7 would probably go 165-170 based on how much stronger lofted they are. That would be nice for the ego, but my concern would be gapping - would I then have start playing a lot of 3/4 PW, 9 iron shots etc, or put another wedge in the bag? Which would mean taking out a wood or hybrid which might lead to less flexibility at the top end of the bag. (I'm not really in the market for new clubs, just something I wonder about when I see where some of these GI lofts are moving to....)
I have a set of GI irons (Sim Max from 2 years ago), and the distance is pretty impressive - but you're right, there CAN be a gapping issue. However, I added the AW to the set (48 degree), and that solved the issue of going from 44 (PW) to 52 (my next wedge) nicely. It's just what you can get used to - but honestly, before I added the AW, I was just hitting my PW about 3/4-ish when I had something between 120-135, and it wasn't a huge issue. I would think, however, if you were to look at a set of clubs like this, you'd want to include a gapping session into the cost of the clubs to ensure you were covered where you needed to be. The flipside of the PW being strong, is that the 5 is also strong, so you may end up saving a club on that end and segue directly to your 5W or hybrid, depending on what you need.
P.S. I couldn't resist. My set of irons are being shipped to me. I will not miss the Arccos as it never worked well the last time I had them on my irons.

Nice review guys. Looks as though Cobra have a winner on their hands. Biggest disappointment is that Arccos no longer comes as standard. That could push potential buyers to other manufacturers that have Arccos included.
or make the clubs a bit cheaper for someone who might already have Arccos tags or another monitoring system?
Two different way of looking at it I guess.
At those lofts the average golfer will have to stop after the 7 iron and go to hybrids if swing speed under 80mph with 7 iron….

I thought my 7 iron was strong at 28 but Cobra just said ‘hold my beer’
I'm still thinking of changing my Titleist 716 AP1's, I have been for 2 years now, but haven't found anything to change to. When I bought the 716's I thought how strong lofted they were, but not now, wow, 26.5° for a 7 iron, wow again. I think Id have to start my set at 7 iron and have 5 wedges to get the lofts right throught the set

Great looking clubs, nice review, just hope they are not too huge. Would love to see these compared to other clubs (Wilson D9’s?).
I tried them last night at PGA Superstore and, like you, was impressed. I have always liked Cobra clubs and the extra distance is a plus. Best looks and feel and sound to date for Cobra. Is it trade-in time? Very good review. Enjoyed the video.
I just got fitted into these LTDx this evening, they were the right set for me.
In the end, it's all about having a club that will go the distance you need it to go consistently. If I can hit a club the distance and height I need, so that it has a predictable grab or roll out and stay on target, that's the irons I want.

Got me some PXG 0211 dc2s later last year and haven’t played a round yet until this season starts. Looked at the Radspeed irons but after my fitting I think I made a good choice.

Good review I have been losing distance with irons as I’ve got older. Will be investing in a new set sometime soon will probably look at these as Well as Wilson D9 which have had great reviews and poss Hybrid irons Titliest T400 are also interesting but bit pricey.
All I'd say is try everything out with an open mind.

If the 7 iron is really a 5, then why would an improver want to get a 4 iron thats probably more like a 2?
Because of the forgiveness level - the 4-iron (lofted as a traditional 2) will fly higher than a traditional 2, but just as far - the GI irons have so much weight at the bottom to help the ball into the air, that most slower-swing-speeds need to get the ball airborne. A traditional 2-iron is a VERY hard club to hit and get airborne.

Dan many thanks this very interesting. I’m watched the vid because the LTDx clubs made up my hire set in Portugal this week. Wow they were amazing. I’m now thinking of ditching my Ping G30s in their favour but wondered if you could advise on my specific circumstances? I turn 70 next month and although I don’t seem to have lost distance to a noticeable degree so far, I know age is against me. My club, Hallamshire, is in-and-out and often windy or breezy. This means hybrids are good down wind but less so the other way so maybe easy to hit strong lofted irons would help? My handicap has been between 9-11 for many years. Current carry, on a rare, still day, is about 150 yards with a seven iron, I was hitting the Cobra nine iron that far. Most reviews I see recommend club types according to handicap but that doesn’t really account for other circumstances such as these in my opinion. Like another person commenting I’m also concerned about gapping from PW to shorter wedges and stopping power into greens down wind due to the strong lofts.

Dan, do a video on loft vs. launch angle and how they affect distance very confusing? Seems like the longer the ball is in the air the better for distance? Isn’t that what they say about drivers? Upward strike and all, is it better to drive a 7 iron low let it run for distance or keep it climbing in air for distance? I understand landing and stopping the ball I’m asking more for total distance. Thanks from sunny California

Not in a million years would I try those. Mid to high handicapper need more launch, perhaps a 32 degree 7 iron. Lee and Dan have the speed to launch , mid/ high don’t.

I'm glad Cobra have dropped Arccos as standard. It would've put me off them in the past as I use ShotScope and you can't put the tags in if Arccos is in there. I do have a problem with them selling 4-PW or 5-GW as standard. Many (I'd say the majority) of people buying these clubs should go no where near a 4 iron (18.5 degrees) and probably think twice about a 5 iron (20.5 degrees). So many sets get sold where the longest club barely comes out of the wrapper.
Those are the standard sets. If you get fitted you can get only the clubs you need. You pay per club and the price club is the same as the per club of the standard set, so these should be about £113 each.
@@ericcosman1642 Yeah, I know. But the average guy buying clubs doesn't know this and just buys the set as advertised. How many guys going to American golf are going to be talked out of buying the full set?

We are never going to be able to compare irons properly until we drop the numbering system and go to loft or at least until they start stamping loft onto the sole. They are conning golfers by telling them they are gaining distance when in reality the manufacturers are gaining yards by playing with lofts.

I'm new to the game and been weighing up the Cobra LTDXs and the Callaway Maverik. Seen lots of good and bad things on both any help guys?
To be fair they are similar styles of clubs. Pick the one you like the look of most 👍

From face on they look nice just not too keen on being able to see the bulge at the back but for someone who needs the help it would not be too much of an issue,27 deg on a 7 iron!!!.....wow I couldn't imagine that but overall a nice looking set for the golfer that needs help from a credible company 🎊🎉🥳

What's the point of reducing your handicap with technology? You'll still be the same golfer with the same skill levels.
Much better to get some lessons and improve your ability, and you'll save yourself some money at the same time!
