Agreed, I much preferred it in the book where everybody was in the Great Hall and Voldemort was having to hold off Slughorn, Minerva and Kingsley all at once - then Harry shows himself and they battle in front of everyone after Harry offers Voldemort one last chance to put his soul back together through feeling remorse. It was a lot more powerful as a scene, especially since Voldemort's body didn't just disintegrate into thin air.

I think the way they had Voldemort physically beat up Harry for a couple scenes is clever. By that point Voldemort had tried pretty much every spell he knew on Harry, including AK multiple times, and the kid just would not die. By this point V was at the end of his rope, boiling with rage at Harry for NOT DYING, defying him, and being the one thing he could not conquer. It seems logical Voldemort's "human?" rage would kick in and he would just feel so inclined to beat the shit out of him.

Plus, their powers are equal, harry also wouldnt kill voldemort without his friends, or so what called, "Dumbledore's Army" (the DA) without their help on fighting the death eaters and Nevile slicing the horcux with the sword, harry wouldnt sucess, it isn't just about a single persons power, it's about team spirit. A lot of people were unsatisfied with the final battle, which I understand why. It really isn't as epic as expected and I think J.K. Rowling wanted it that way. I believe she wanted to show you how weak Voldemort was after all of his protection was taken away. After all, Voldemort's greatest fear was death. In the end, it shows that he is just another human being with weaknesses. It's an epic ending to a long and cold battle between good and evil more than an epic battle in its self.

What is certain is that as they were being destroyed, part of his soul and the more mortal he remained. Horcruxes fragmented his soul, not his powers. Just remember the brute force of magic in which he single-handedly destroyed the magical protection made by dozens of skilled wizards. And this at a time when several of their horcruxes were already destroyed. Voldemort was killed by several factors. One is the elder wand that did not belong to him and that despite being one of the most intelligent wizards in the world, he sinned by not studying more about the riddles of death, that is, the elder wand. Another would be the most powerful protection magic that exists: the protection of love made by the sacrifice of Harry's mother who still continued to protect Harry. Voldemort despised knowing these types of magic. For him, the most powerful and superior magic of all was dark magic. Another fact was also the sharing of the same core of Harry and Potter's wand that saved the boy several times. There's also the fact that he didn't kill his only Hogwarts professor in which he once shared the idea of horcruxes. Voldemort was careless several times

The thing that always bugged me about the ending of this movie was that Voldemort was supposed to die as a man. That he was human, even under all that evil and the power of the Horcruxes. That was why it was important in the books that his body was still there - because he was just a man. A horrifically evil man, but still just a man.

I read the books, I watched the movies, over and over again.
What I don't understand is why people are upset with the final duel.
We've literally got 100s of people dueling in the background. Voldermort doesn't have a boss health bar. You can't just keep hitting him and hope it weakens him.
I for one think they nailed the final fight, the battle began when Harry and the gang started hunting horcruxes.
3 whole movies of trying to defeat Voldermort all boiled down into a few moments.
And something about Voldermort flaking away as the sun comes out over the top of the castle. And of course the beautiful score that accompanies it.
Yeah nah, I reckon they nailed it.
I couldn't imagine it being done any differently.

Also, the allegiance, obedience or submission of a wand is not necessarily gained by killing its previous master, but an also be won by disarming him/her. When Draco disarmed Dumbledore, he won the wand's allegiance. When Snape killed Dumbledore, he did not win the wand's allegiance because then the wand belonged to Draco, not Dumbledore. When Voldemort killed Snape, he did not not the wand's allegiance as the wand never belonged to Snape. Harry had disarmed Draco, so he became the wand's master

I mean, he's a half-blood, hated that fact, was ashamed of his muggle father, and used his own hatred and anger to kill other innocent people and an infant baby, and then said baby grows up and destroys his soul, and he dies. If Tom had made different choices, he wouldn't have become Voldemort. If I had been Harry, I'd have been trying more to talk to him and make him see that it isn't too late to turn his life around.

In a match to the death, there's no such thing as fair or foul. If you have to kill to protect so be it. Killing in the heat of battle, to protect all that you hold dear, doesn't make you a murderer. Plenty of heroes in multiple forms of media kill the villains but it doesn't change who they are.
