  • Finally getting around to introducing y'all to "Ruby Sue"! She's a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400, and is Mojave Desert Rated (whatever that means). I know the video is long for a review, but we also cover what to look out for when picking one of these up used.

I have an 02’ but in yellow. Very good machine. 5XXhr and 7XX miles. Previous owner used it to check the mail at the end of her long driveway.

If it was me, and I was looking for another one of these machines, and the deal was right, I would not sleep on it. Check for leaks and play in the suspension. I would also plan on replacing the rear hub carrier bushings bolts (part 7517297 for my rig) as a precaution. At some point, at least one will break (there are 2 on each side). Also a good idea to plan on changing all fluids (engine oil, transmission oil, front gearcase oil, and front hubs oil).

55 mph is actually pretty good for that rig.

It may have been only once, downhill, with a little tailwind. But she get there. 50 though isn’t a problem for it.
