    I forgot to add some little points:
    1 - Download uni days app for student discounts! It’s free! Or get your NUS card £12 per year.
    2 - If you haven’t already, get a flask to take your tea / coffee etc into uni with you. Also at most coffee shops now they give you a discount for using your own mug! Our uni gives you free hot water if you take your own tea bags etc too!
    3 - Take a water bottle to keep hydrated. There will be water fountains about to refill it.

      Mutsa Irish Get into uni days website and sign up for free 😁 then you can use that to get your discounts. Body shop will only use uni days over the other ones (I’m not sure why). You might need a uni email address first tho for it! To confirm you’re a student.
      The BNF is great! You’ll need it for your drugs they give you to learn ☺️ the app is just as good too! It’s all free

    Hi Claire, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. One of my family members got an offer from BCU and will be starting on January. She has a child. She wants to know how to manage her time before and after her sessions/placement? Can you please share your lecture/mandatory session's schedule with us? How many hours do student have to spend at uni? She would like to make a plan before her start date. Thank you.

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety

      Righteous Nasheed Hi, thank you so much for your message.
      How exciting for her starting at BCU! She’s going to have an amazing time. Also let her know, she can apply for child care funding and travel expenses still! Even though they took away the bursary. I’ll find the link for you to show her.
      She will do 2 months at university and then in March she should start her placement for around 8-9 weeks roughly (this is what we did and I was January intake)
      Then she will be back at university until end of July time and then have 2 weeks off during August. Then August to October will be placement again for around 10-11 weeks. We then had the first week of November off and then we had what they call CAP period. For the rest of November. This is pretty much time off but they set you work to do from home to prepare you for second year. Then she will get the whole of December off! ☺️
      Her time table might be slightly different to our one. But that’s just a rough idea for her.
      University she will be in all different times and day of the week. Weekends off 🙌🏻 But some days she might be in uni for 2 hours and then other days she might have a full 8 hour day. Some weeks it will be 1 or 2 days at uni and other weeks she might be in all week. Just depends how they work it.
      Placement she will be in for 3 long days (12hr shifts) a week and then 4 days off (most wards do this but community placement might be different and she might work 5 days a week).
      Sorry that’s a really long message haha. I hope that helps though ☺️

      @righteousnasheed7131 Před 5 lety

      thanks for your reply :) I really appreciate that. What do student need to do at uni? Do they have to attend lectures? Or, they just contact their tutor for a project or coursework? Sorry for asking too many questions :) Have a nice evening

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety

      Righteous Nasheed sorry for the delay. Students have to attend lectures, skills sessions (manual handling, washing and dressing a patient, wound dressings etc) AND also do work at home (assignments and revision for exams) ☺️

    Any advice for someone starting a nursing degree who hasn’t been in education for a few years? I’m about to start and would like to make sure I catch up with some of the people who have complained access courses etc

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety +1

      Dwaine Wilson I hadn’t been in any education for a few years either. I didn’t prepare or do any work before starting but managed to catch up. You just have to make sure you revise and stay organised 😊
      But if you want to prepare get online or get a book (whichever you prefer) and look at how the body systems work. Cardiovascular system, renal system, Respiratory system, Endocrine system, nervous system 💕 If you can get your head around those and how they work that will give you a good start for physiology. 💕 you got this though! X
