Great advice 😊 When I did my degree I liked to do lots of research on the topic the essay would be on and pull out pieces I thought would be good for references then once I had enough (we were always told 10% for references, so one for every 100 words) I would number them in a logical order to use and it helped me so much to structure my essays and to get over writers block! Obviously not going to work for everyone but thought it may help someone. 😊
I used this video to prompt my writing when I was writing my RPL to get a place on a postgraduate Nursing course, here I am a year later watching again to prepare to write my first assignment for the course. 884th Subscriber here! I was getting 40/50s I managed to to get 60/70 but I’m pretty inconsistent. I’m happy I’ve got some literature to improve and videos to like this go break it down a notch. Sometimes examples and clarity from a fellow student is simpler than advise from a professional, well you know as long as the student is well-informed 😂😂
I failed my first two exams because my writing wasn’t really clear my choice of words were poor as well as english bot being my first language and i don’t really have anyone to proof read my work so i always just went with my gut and what i thought was good . Im scared to fail my first year but this motivated me a lot so when i get my grade again after i re submit i will upadate this! and i hope i do pass this time. thank youuu

Hi Claire, I have just watched your CZcams video on second year nursing student UK:assignments writing| how to improve your grade and I want to know how would I layout the pro’s and cons for example of an infected wound dressing what type of wound dressing to use would I exactly write a pro of gauze/cloth dressing would be it’s cheap whereas a con would be it can act as a source of infection if not changed regularly or how would I write it to include the pro’s and con’s words please? and how do I search for journals, evidence based practice and research papers? and can I use google websites for the pro’s and con’s for example of different types of wound dressing or is it better not to use google websites and use books, journals, evidence based practice and research papers?
You will learn how to write assignments and search when you start university. Don’t worry too much about this! It depends on what your assignment brief tells you to do and how to write it to how you will physically write it. For this example I used with wound care dressings, it was a written assignment. So the layout was an assignment. There was nothing else added to that. You have to go and find the most up to date research on what wound dressing works best for what type of wound and write about it. My assignment was years ago and will be out of date now. So you’re better looking yourself to find this :) but only if you ever have an assignment on it. There’s no point looking now if you don’t have the assignment for it yet. It will be pointless :( There’s a number of different search engines you can use for research that your university will advise also. • Cochrane •CINAHL • Your uni library itself For example. But also journals. There will be journals for most things! There is the wound journal you can get info from. You just have to research yourself when the time is right :) don’t stress right now about this 💜 x

Claire, do you think it matters what edition book you buy? For example, a 12th edition A&P book instead of the current 13th edition? The 12th was published 2014 so it is 6 years old. Any advice would be great x
Charlene Bennett No it doesn’t matter at all :) anatomy and physiology will be the same :) they might just add extra bits or images to newer additions. But it will still teach you what you need either way 🥰 xx

I am just thinking about how to be critical in my assignment. My essay is to do a critical discussion of the aeitiology and management of long-term conditions from a biopsycosocial prespective. I have chosen obesity and we must use the biopsycosocial model to critically discuss the evidence associated with the development and management of obeisty. My essay is 2000 words long. Please let me know of some of your ideas of where can I write pros and cons and create a conclusion. Would it be written somewhere at the end? Thanks
If you have a look around you’ll find LOADS of research on obesity. It’s one of the leading conditions right now ☺️ Throughout your whole essay you should be writing pros and cons and then the conclusion at the end yes :) look into everything: social factors, food factors, mental health , motivation, exercise, self esteem, the fact they are higher risk of other conditions now too etc there’s loads you can look at for this. ☺️
No they don’t :) that can just be articles as well to support what you’re saying. Our uni preferred UK. But it’s ok to use other countries as well if it relevant here in uk too. X
