    Congratulations Claire I'm so happy for you!!!
    That poo day, oh my lord I think we can all relate lol!
    Naloxone is crazy!! Sooo great that we have access to opioid reversals though its such an important thing to have to hand!
    Hopefully your little lady was ok this week xx

      Nurse Corinne Thank yooouuu! Made my whole year that did!
      The Pooh days are the worst I swear haha. There’s nothing you can do until your patient is ok either 🙈
      I’ve had to take this week off :( I’ve had some things go on at home etc. But I’ll be back to it next week! I’m not sure if she will be gone by the time I’m back though 💔 xx

    I have my 2nd year placement in a GP practice! I cannot wait and I have jotted down what you have stated that GP nursing students do on placement, I am so looking forward to the 2nd year of nursing. Thank you for your tips and tricks I really appreciate it.

      Yay!!! This is amazing news whoop! So excited for you :)
      There’s also an e-learning package on e-learning for healthcare for students in GP! This might help. But there’s SO MUCH on there. Don’t do it all haha x

    I'm watching this the night before my first day as a student nurse and getting very excited! I've been working on a busy ward as a HCA for 6 months and also feeling that ward nursing might not be for me, though I love the patients and other staff. I think I like the idea of having only one patient at a time that I can give my whole attention to. And not being run off my feet (literally)! So I'm excited for you getting the community rotation placement! Congratulations and I can't wait to hear about it! And I can definitely sympathise with you getting poop on your trousers. Somehow I've got it on my forearms a couple of times and I've cursed the aprons for not having sleeves haha!

      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety +1

      Gwen Owen Awww at least you’ve had the 6months on the ward to prepare for it all :)
      You should love community I think! If you don’t think you’re a ward nurse either haha. Usually it’s one or the other in my experience 🙈
      Good luck for your first day today! You’ll be fine ☺️✨ it’s all a little overwhelming on the first day but once you start speaking to people etc you’ll be loving life. Xx

    Hi Claire, I said exactly the same... I am not a ward nurse. It involves lots of management re: laptop and staff. Not enough patient contact, conversation and care for me. I am just about to qualify and have interviews for the community. I have everything crossed that I will get a post there 🤯😬🤗

    Great video Claire ☺️ Good to hear all about wards. To be honest when I first looked into nursing I didn’t realise there were many options outside of the wards. I think if I get to do my dream job as a children’s nurse one day I’d like to train as a health visitor once I’m nearing retirement.

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety

      Natasha Hewlett Haha why near retirement? You can do health visiting any day 😁 you have to do a separate health visiting course after your nursing for it though. But I don’t think it takes long at all :) x

    • @tashax8841
      @tashax8841 Před 5 lety

      Claire Carmichael I believe it’s an 18 month course. I would like to work on the wards initially but health visiting is something I’m interested in but not in the next few years as I love to be in a busy environment working in a team. But how long such a busy job with long hours is sustainable as you get older I’m not sure.I had an amazing health visitor support me when I had my daughter and I’ve heard such bad press about health visitors I’d love to be one, just not yet. My background is in family support so I’ve done lots of lone, community work so I want to move away from that and working on the children’s ward for me at the moment is my dream job 😊

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety +1

      Natasha Hewlett Aw that sounds lovely! Great plan, especially if you’ve already worked with families etc.
      I get the feeling children’s wards are so much different from adults. It would be nice to experience I think :) I didn’t pick children’s because I don’t think I would cope seeing sick children. Adults I can deal with 🙈 but you never know do you! I am thinking about being dual qualified I just don’t know whether to do midwifery or child. X

    • @tashax8841
      @tashax8841 Před 5 lety

      Claire Carmichael I considered midwifery too but after 15 years of working with children and families I know my heart is in working with children. It’s a shame you can’t do the dual qualification for midwifery with the children’s nursing degree but I could never do adults nursing 🙈 It’s nice to have so many options through one qualification though. It’s lucky we’re all different otherwise we’d end up all doing the same thing! 😂

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  Před 5 lety +1

      Natasha Hewlett This is true hah! We’d all be fighting for the same role 🙈
      There’s so many options now ❤️ I love it but it’s also a pain because I want to do everything haha x

    You are such an angel. I am following in your footsteps having just finished year 1. I am going in to a ward placement next year / this year and have had 17 amazing weeks in the community in my first year. I soooo know what you mean about working on the wards, I feel exactly the same. Wishing you all the best in your future. xx

      @@ClaireCarmichael 1 more drug calculation exam then! Did the drug calculation questions get harder through the years or have they remained the same? You will learn so many new skills in the community such as Vac dressings, Rocket drains and paste bandaging. I loved it.

      Darren Smith I’ve finished all my exams now 😍 thankfully passed them!
      To be honest, I found 2nd year and 3rd year maths easier than first year 🙈😂 apparently I like drug calculations over fractions 😱 haha!

    You have my dream placement. Im just starting my first placement in outpatients , but I know I’m not a ward nurse either, I want to be a GP nurse. Also can’t wait for your vlog on essay writing, as I’ve just been diagnosed with dyslexia and so I’m struggling academically 😕. Good luck with your community placements in 3rd year 😊😊

      GP was by far the best placement. And as a NQN you can go straight into it now 😁 it’s amazing.
      I’ll do it in the week I think. Not too sure when? Maybe Friday 😁 I hope it helps
