  • Once again we are looking at the weapons of Fallout, this time with a focus (ha) on laser weapons. We will explore the lore, design inspirations, easter eggs, cut content and some real world facts relating to our favorite ash making weapons in the Fallout series. This is part one, with part two coming out in the near future.

Maybe the reason why there's huge handguards on the energy weapons is due to them being intended for powered armor usage? Just a thought.

I think that’s definitely a possibility. Probably wasn’t a bad idea to have some sort of insulating glove with the early laser pistols

@@Rad_King in our world, the huge handguards and trigger rings are for winter wear gloves or gloved wear in general, so bigger handguards for the Power Armour troops is a good thing.

That's a really good theory. Plus I believe they were being rolled out around the Battle of Anchorage. So it could work well with thick gloves necessary for winter fighting in Alaska, Canada, and cold parts of China.

Also a other reason to get form-fitting gloves if you can. Know your glove size and train because your trigger pull does change when wearing gloves.

I have a theory. Recharger weapons were made for space travel. Firstly, what little paint is left and the way they're designed makes it seem like they weren't produced by the normal companies that make and deal with energy weapons and looks more like something like Poseidon energy or REPCON would make. Secondly if you look where these weapons are most common and where they can be found. The Bright Brotherhood use a lot of them or did and they inhabit the REPCON launch site. Also look where you get the MF Hyper Breeder Alpha. You don't get it from the Van Grafs or Brotherhood who y'know, deal a lot with energy weapons. It would also make sense for the idea too because then you wouldn't need to take up room on the rockets with spare ammo since they recharge themselves. You alao wouldn't need to waste room on resupply rockets with more ammo. Just a thought

My thought on Recharger weapons is they weren't exclusively meant for one thing, the pistols would have been perfect for space use but the rifles seem to be a rather weak weapon, like their power output was limited for civilians. The same tech one is just purposely weaker

    • @Robb1977
      @Robb1977 Před 2 lety +17

Gun sellers also wouldn't want to sell energy weapons that charge themselves... they like having repeat business.
I agree however that the recharger weapons would be used for space travel. They don't need to hit as hard because weight is a premium in spacetravel, therefore armor is likely thinner up there... and a single hole can kill someone on EVA, or cause a base to begin shutting down. Additionally, it could be a safety feature if some space cowboy gets trigger happy in his own base, or if there's interior fighting (prevents overpenetration).

10:23 Pro tip: gold is extremely malleable, plus it's also very heavy. (that thing they do in movies, where they bite on a gold coin to see if it's actually gold or not is actually legit. gold will bend from a moderate bite.) the reason as to why gold is a bad option for the gun is because it would add a ton of unnecessary weight to the gun, and one decent drop or hit to the gun will irreparably damage the focusing crystals. titanium, while it can corrode, is pretty tough, and would be able to keep the gun from getting fucked up when getting hit. If i were to use a metal for it though, i'd choose tungsten. tungsten is much stronger than titanium, and it has the highest melting point of any metal.

    • @tateranus4365

Seeing as you mentioned its electronic with evidence being the two power cables; What if the Scope is actually *A Camera?* A lens on the front of the Scope, that records a magnified image. And a screen on the back of the Scope that plays back the recording. Hence the two power wires. The connection between the Recroding Lense and the Screen are in the internals of the Scope.

Discussing the Sunbeam Laser Rifle - the cables you mentioned may be video signal cables, with the scope actually serving as a boresight device, giving a perfect on-target image.
This is a sound idea because laser doesn't "drop" like a normal bullet, which would necessitate a sighting device that shows an exact impact point. How any video camera would deal with refraction through beam focusing lenses is beyond me, though.
We don't actually know at which ranges Fallout laser weapon beams lose cohesion, but the beams are visible and red (wavelength between 620 nm and 699 nm). Thus, their range would be much more limited than what is shown in the game, with beams superheating the atmosphere and speeding up diffusion, so a scope of any kind would be completely superfluous.

I think my favorite directed energy weapon is the LAER. The electrolaser works like what you said: laser-induced plasma channel, it creates a channel of least resistance for the current to flow through the air, by the laser; the laser's electromagnetic field harvests electrons, from air, creating the pathway for the current (from LiveScience, June 22, 12'). The Picatinny Arsenal (US Army R&D) is one group who have demonstrated it back in 2012.

I always prefer old-school firepower, especially with the beautiful selection of brass you get in NV. But they are quite satisfying, especially framers and laser miniguns..but that fully customized tri beam with the special rounds is really something special
But if you want a great playthrough, you gotta pu some points on explosives or melee

I just realised that solar gun in EPA is a clever bit of satire:
    1) Agency that is supposed to protect the environment creates a weapon using their energy generating technology
2)It can evaporate a human being, but at least it runs on "clean" energy.

    The lightning gun ?
Forget about gas, (well... mostly. We'll get back to that) what is happening is: the laser is being used to create a channel of ionized gas, what gas? The gas yer breathing dude! Air!
Yeah... and what can travel through air when it's in an ionized state? Thats right! Electricity! So basically, its allowing your high voltage, high amp power source in your gun to stike a massive arc via an ion trail between the gun and the target.
The energy damage plus explosive damage makes sense - a high voltage arc with superheat the air around it, causing a shockwave. At a distance, you hear it as thunder... but at contact range? It is concussive force.

I know it would be a lot more work but you should really show in-game footage of the things you’re talking about when possible instead of just general gameplay. It makes the visual part of your videos kind of pointless aside from a few pictures. I do enjoy your content, just giving you some constructive criticism. Keep up the good work.

I would say the laser pistol's "hand guard" isn't actually intended as a hand guard as such but structural frame work which is matched by the laser rifle.
In a normal gun, the projectile's course would be corrected and hit off target in line with the misaligned barrel.
It would be essential that the laser barrel is soundly secure in place as the laser beam is directional, the weapon would not only be completely ineffective, but even self destructive if the barrel was not in line with the laser; at worst the barrel would explode melting polymers, metals and electronic components in potentially all directions, and the laser beam may be reflected / refracted into random directions.

6:50 small point i wanted to add regarding the solar scorcher gun, it looks like it has the foto electric cells on the dome shapped end in the back since that has a Fresnel lens to focus the light source into the foto electric cells although thats just speculation based on the image shown, and the two wires going into the upper part indicate that the upper part is the battery with the lights being posibly a charge indicator, furthermore it would make sense to have the fotoelectric cell on the back of the gun since when a weapon is holstered that is the exposed part facing the sun.

  • @MrChainsawAardvark
    @MrChainsawAardvark Před 3 lety

One idea for the odd scope on the Laser Rifle is that the system is like an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera. The operator can actually see down the barrel/focusing optics until the trigger mechanism changes it to firing mode. As to the magneto-laser pistol, well if its using an ionized gas instead as a lasing medium instead of solid state crystals - being able to contain it at a higher temperature/energy state plasma with magnets would be helpful. (At leas in a techno-babel fashion, I know there are gas core lasers, but plasma is another matter.)

4:00 those wires are probably going to an energy cell to power the weapon, there's several other powered weapons in the series that use top-mounted cells. First to come to mind is the pulse gun in F:NV, where you can quite easily see a cell mount with 2 wires on either side coming from the mount.

maybe the watts 1000 was meant to be used in power armour, so the handguard would make sense.
and the Watts rifle not having a scope could also be plausible, since power armour is equipped with VATS capabilities
edit: actually this applies to a lot of prewar laser weapons now that I think about it, even the laser rifle has an exceptionally long trigger guard

I'd like to think that the scope of the Watts laser rifle feeds directly into the lenses in the barrel for 100% accurate aim (pretty much like a camera). Could be digital video feed or analog mirrors+fiber optics, but either way It would need a shutter system to dampen at the moment of fire so you don't... y'know redirect a laser directly back into your own eyes.

Certainly possible. Only reason I lean toward it being where the micro fusion cells are is the upgrade is specifically meant to recycle some energy and increase the ammo capacity so it makes sense the area with the micro fusion cells would be the area that would look different.
