    Life as a fat Lolita is hard, but apparently I manage to get dressed in every video! Whaat? How come? Here's me talking about what to look for in plus size friendly clothes, why patriarchy hates women and fat women and makes women hate women, and why the heck plus size Lolita is not so common.

    I remembered a really old socks DIY. People would get some transparent/white/skin toned pantyhose or socks, print or draw a design on paper and draw it on the socks with permanent or fabric maker to get that a fake tattoo style. I saw lolitas with really cute DIY patterns made like that.

      I've never heard of that! I thought you'd mention people turning socks into pantyhoses since most Japanese and Chinese ones are short and end up in the middle of long thighs lmao.

    As a plus size woman, I sew all of my own clothing. If I knew there was a market for plus size Lolita fashion, I would advertise and sew them for customers.

    • @EnyoBowBtch
      @EnyoBowBtch  Před 2 měsíci +5

      There definitely is a market and also free patterns for Lolita dresses, check lolitahistory.com for snaps of the GLB, and online several people have posted patterns! Also maybe talk to indie brands too, they want want to collaborate. Either way fat Lolitas exist and we need dresses, too, so I'd be super existed about that. If you want me to recommend/review you at some point use the mail in my channel description! I'm open to buying an indie Jsk and sharing more opportunities for the community.

      I assume you haven't been in the online lolita spaces for very long. I would recommend checking out the japanese brands Metamorphose, Atelier Pierrot and Maxicimam. They have lolita clothing in plus sizes.
      There is a large market for plus sized lolita but people generally don't want to pay brand prices for indie brand items that aren't as good in terms of quality and design compared to the OG brands.
      This is why some size inclusive western indie brands have failed.
      It's a tough industry, especially at the moment with the rising cost of materials. OG brands have lower manufacturing costs per item compared to an indie brand, so you really have to do the math to see if starting an indie brand or making custom pieces is even profitable for you.
      You would have to match brand prices and their quality or have lower prices.
      If the math says you cannot pay yourself a living wage by matching brand prices then this cannot ever be something you do as your main source of income.

    Thrift stores are not a great option for lolita unless you get really lucky. Most of the time the items that have frills and/or lace are not the kind of aesthetic that would suit any lolita style.
    You might get lucky if you find a 70's edwardian revival blouse that goes with your classic lolita stuff, or an 80's cotton lace blouse that doesn't have a pointed collar.
    My go to has always been either buy or make from scratch. I've been sewing lolita since 2003 with Boutique-sha's lolita sewing books. The earlier issues came with 4 different sizes (S, M, L, LL) and I had to add both width and length to those patterns but they're a great starting point. After widening and lengthening the pattern I would make a mock up with some sturdy cotton sheeting to check the fit and draw on some notes. Then follow the instructions and you have a garment.

    • @EnyoBowBtch
      @EnyoBowBtch  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I think thrift stores have gotten worse- I knoe mostly country and classic Lolitas who find stuff there, using vintage finds. But the market has been flooded with plastic and garments that are single-use. :(
      That sounds really cool and I envy you for being capable of altering patterns AND sewing, I can't do either lol. Would you like to tell me more about your work in an interview to share on my channel?

    • @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118
      @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 Před 2 měsíci

      @@EnyoBowBtch Fast fashion has been terrible for thrift shopping. Almost my entire mainstream wardrobe is second hand and it has gotten steadily worse in the last few years to find basic items that last more than a season.
      As long as I don't have to be on camera or audio call for the interview I will gladly cooperate.
      I'm pretty good at sewing but if you want to do a video interview with a very experienced lolita seamstress there are a few people in the community who are more knowledgeable than me.
      With that I mean people who not only make main pieces just as good as (or better than) the OG brands did back in the 2000s, but who also make their own coats and have a coverlock machine for cutsews and stuff like that. These are people who, if they bought shoes, bags and plain socks, could basically make any outfit they want.
      So far I've only made blouses, dresses, skirts, bloomers, wrist cuffs, cutsews (with a regular serger/overlock machine and a sewing machine) sock toppers and hair accessories.
      I've been wanting to make my own version of a 2000s btssb cape design but I've got a huge pile of alterations and other sewing projects to do.
      You can find those people in the lolita sewing discord called "mode a la belle". Also in the lolita sewing fb groups if you don't like discord. There are 3 that I know of. 4 if you count the alterations group.
      We can still exchange contact info if you'd like.

    I have another piece of advice about blouses: if you are busty and have a lower bust line, choose a blouse with a waist that matches this measurement if you want it to fit coffectly to wear with skirts for example.
    My favorite brands for plus size blouses are Fuwaya and SleepyLand. The prices are about $100 per blouse and the quality is amazing. They both make unique designs that are straight up inexistant in plus sizes (over 110cm specifically) and they go to about 140-160cm bust.
    Now, for Lady Sloth and Violet Fane, I find that their designs are not perfect for plus sizes. I don't know their process for scaling up their patterns but I found the fit on a Lady Sloth JSK I had quite bad as the bust was too long but had awfully short straps. It was not bad overall and had good skirt proportions.
    A general thing for a better fit when you are busty with JSKs is to have longer straps (even with a super short bust) so it sits properly.
    For Violet Fane, I got an op that had a horrendous fit and no structure to the bust at all. The proportions were all over the place and the button line was horribly crooked. It was overall a terrible experience for this one. It really felt like they scaled their M size up without making adjustments, same for the S size which for some reason they made insanely shorter? (A lot of people were complaining about it)

    • @EnyoBowBtch
      @EnyoBowBtch  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Oh right, I have not ordered anything from these brands but I have definitely heard of them! The upscaling of garments was also problematic for Pishkin Pishkin I think was the brand. They made a plus sized OP with arcade print and didn't adjust the sleeve size (wth). I feel like this is the exact same problem people have when drawing fat people. I regularly draw so I am gucci in my proportions, but seeing how other people "upscale" others is...strange. Like looking at a fat person's arm you clearly see the triangle shape, with the shoulders being the widest part and the fingertips the thinnest. Yet when drawing people just inflate sections of the arms and us fat people look strange. :D It takes some dealing with fat people and actually looking at them to figure our we're not balloons lol

    • @kittycat6596
      @kittycat6596 Před 3 měsíci

      @@EnyoBowBtch Definitely, there is a lack of understanding of how plus size people look and how fat can be distributed in different bodies. (Also there's a massive lack of understanding of how breasts work and that's the worst).
      There is also a lack of plus size models in lolita fashion (asides from western indie brands) so it doesn't help with representation. It makes me sad to see lolitas blindly buy and wear ill fitting clothes or cuts that aren't made with care about plus sizes and still settle for it because it cost so much🥹
      We should always be vocal about it!

    • @EnyoBowBtch
      @EnyoBowBtch  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@kittycat6596 It definitely got better but there's still lots of potential. I hope more plus size in any way Lolitas speak up and that this sentiment of 'fat lolitas are itas and kill the second hand market and destroy shirring for us uwu' dies out. I don't spend money on ill fitting clothes to just look at them, and hopefully some day I won't need to alter them at all. 🐰
