- Today we are painting the faded bed on this 1990 Chevy C1500 OBS. We chose to use Herculiner that we purchased on Amazon for the job of restoring and protecting our truck's bed. Check out the video for the results and let us know what you think down in the comments!

Thank you for this video! In June of 2021 I bought a Ford Ranger with less 89,000 miles it had a bed cover which was covering a large rust hole towards the front of the bed. I placed over the hole a sheet of metal held down with hex-head self-tapping screws, prepared the entire bed as recommended including the bare metal, using Herculiner and some thinner I applied two coats with a spray gun bought from Amazon for such liquids. After letting it dry I bought a topper for it, I've slid many tires, crates and tools across the bed since and its held up very well, no chipping or peeling of the bed liner only the high edges of the hex head of the screws have rubbed off. I like the rubber bits of the Herculiner because they help to hold stuff in place. For the Ranger which has a bed of 6' x 5' I used most of a gallon I did not need to do the inside of the tail gate because the plastic bed cover was fine and no rust under it. I think spraying is a better option but not everyone has that choice.
one of the best youtube videos ive ever watched
Wow
Used Herculiner out of the spray can on the bumpers of my work van. It looks fantastic and has a low build texture. Painted over it with a gloss black. The neighbors are even impressed....
The manufacturer states that for a long box, you need 1 gal + 1 qt.
Looks good. I'll be doing this to my old truck as soon as I finish fixing the rust holes.
nice work - great job on the video as well. Going to buy a gallon and apply to the 18' Tundra I just bought as the bed is really scratched up. thanks for the info!
Are use this on my last truck bed, and it worked very well, a lot of dirt and debris tends to stick to the bedliner especially if it’s really hot out. Also, some thing I noticed is that the Herculiner tends to fade in the sun. Mine started to fade even after four months.
I agree with you on the dirt and debris sticking! We’ll see how long before mine fades. So far it’s ok!
Those plastic i insert bed liners will trap moisture underneath and cause your best to rust. I just bought a 1978 ford f100 with a plastic bed liner. I pulled it out and had rusted holes in the bed. Those are a bad choice.
But not the Herculiner right?
@@mattc9875 No, Herculiner won't do that
true! i had a 97chevy that was bedlinered at first but then i literally found a new drop in bed liner for it on the side of the freeway that fit PERFECT🤣 and after a few years i took it back out to peak and the bed was trashed with plenty of holes
I just used it on my nerf bars. Hoping it hold up.
Iu sed this on my 76 Jeep j10 8ft bed, it holds up fairly well but wire mesh scratched it
looks legit. I just primed my C4 Fabrication Low Profile bumper for my 4Runner TRDPRO. I am going to use this on the high clearance additions, and maybe the bumper itself. I hear it may not hold up the best in heat, but I will be the judge of that when i see how hard it cures
Let us know how well it works for you!
So how about a update on how it held up because you said prep was everything you did not remove the clear coat on most of the bed
Do you think it would having an extra can of liner would have helped?
I think so
Great video! How soon did you remove the tape? Did you remove it before the Herculiner was dry?
I removed the tape maybe 10 minutes after the last coat. Enough time for it to set, but before it completely dried
Does it have a smoother finish? If you were to load something in the bed (furniture, lumber) would it slide easily or kinda of get caught up?
Its a rougher finish. Furniture would definitely get caught up.
How rough or smooth has to do with the roller used & there are versions that are designed to come out smoother
Hello. Thanks for sharing. Im considering roll on vs spray kit. Ive seen a vid of roll on where the person said they could see paint lines with roll on. Did you experience that? How long would you say it took to apply each coat?
You could see the paint lines when the paint was wet, but once it dried it looked good. It took about an hour to apply each coat
#herculiner
Decent product tbh
I think you had too much on the roller and or the liner was too thick when you used it
Definitely a possibility
