Cornelia wrote this song herself after a break up so she definitely understands the lyrics, I think the reason why she seemed "happy" while performing was both nerves and genuine happiness. She entered the Swedish national selection without getting any attention or love (no expectations from the public whatsoever) because before this no one really knew who she was. After her first performance in the semi-final she became a huge favourite to win so she went from getting no love to getting all the love and that must have been so confusing and amazing for her. Went from completely incognito to the favourite in just 3 minutes. She went into the final as one of the main favourites to win and had to go against some household names and performers. The pressure of being a favourite and also the happiness getting so much love is definitely showing in her final performance. In her winning performance she is laughing and smiling all the way through even though it's a sad song because the pressure was gone and there was only happiness left. I absolutely love everything about this song and if you don't feel the emotions in it then I will do it for you haha 🤗
So a grown up native English speaker is doing a face and complaining about a non native speakers English accent? As if she needs to sing the queens English after been livin in LA and have Swedish as her native tounge? I’d like to hear that guy speak Swedish so I could do a face. Or maybe learn Swedish fluently in Finland so I can bury my face in my hands and complain about his “weird sounds”.
Watching you for the first time and I have to say it’s pretty odd to be so upset about a Californian accent in Eurovision Song Contest. I don’t think many of the contestants speak perfect English without any dialect. And to be so upset that it sounds like an American accent is.. 😬
I don't think they were talking about the californian accent, they were referring to diphthong which they mentioned in the reaction video to Germany's entry that it is popular with musicians from California.
I think the "smiling" on the "chose the right one at the wrong time" is to convay that it's a bittersweet feeling. The whole song to me has this bittersweet feeling, like it's a breakup and obviously there's despair, but also the memories and there and she's happy it happened - it's not an aggressive lovers to enemies kind of breakup. For me her performance is perfect at walking that line.
I've noticed this a lot from group reactors both for music and also for TV / movie reactions. The problem is that emotional moments can be burst so easily with an ill-timed quip, distracting comment, or just self-consciousness about getting emotional in a group. Groups work great for up-beat moments, like high-tempo songs or dramatic and surprising moments in movies where enthusiasm can be infectious; but for things where you're clearly meant to be alone with the artist and your emotions the groups can really shatter the magic.
Interesting how differently it can be perceived. Most reactions I have seen really get her emotion and are really touched by it, like many Swedish voters and the juries which in the end sent her to the ESC 2022. (English accents are difficult to comment on when it comes to Eurovision but I realize it must be tough to hear for a native speaker.)
I think this was her performance after winning so I guess she couldn't refrain from smiling. And btw you could probably make an entire video about english accents in Eurovision. 🙂
No, this wasn't the winner's reprise. She's smiling because she's gently addressing her lover who's right beside her when the song opens. You can deduce that by the close camera shot and, you know, the lyrics.
I have seen alot of people get goosebumps in the first 5 seconds into the song and it also happend to me. It is so strange how people can feel differently.
You can like a song or not, we people like different, but, well I think you dont understand Swedish peoples way of expressing feelings. It is not drama, (when I look at for ex audition in American Idol I think there often is not sincere emotions, more drama and totally extreme how people show feelings- different social culture) but about Cornelia, at least I can feel inside of me, when I listen, what she is saying/singing/feeling. It is from her own reality, its about sadness, but also strength, endure the hard things. Smiling when it feels like hell, is not unusual... It is a defense mechanism.
Fyi, you apparently watched the winner performance and she could definitely not contain her exceptionally happy emotions abt winning Melodifestivalen. Seldomly seen such a happy winner. It was interesting to hear you though. I have actually only seen one more reaction video where (one of the persons in the video) someone didn't "feel" the number, even when watching the winner performance... You guys are stone cold! ;) haha... Perhaps you expected something polished and soulless, given many of the recent entries from Sweden, and that that coloured your perception. Watch another performance by her, by yourself, let go of the technical judgement, a d just listen to her voice, lyrics and take in her great presence in the song. You'll like it.
I am not usually a fan of Sweden at Eurovision but this year I absolutely love their song. It is my 2nd place and I can't see it being lower than top 5 in the final (it's a potential winner for me).
Tyler tried really hard I give him that. Interesting review otherwise. I do understand the expectation of more pain; but the moment you have that expectation, you are not listening to *her story anymore - youre waiting for her to tell your version of the story. Once you accept that this is her story, there are many ways to interpret her smile.
By the reactions to this song you can really well see how emotionally grown the reactors are. I also notice that groups (+2 people) rather hide their emotion when listening to the song and rate it worse. This reaction is a very good example for that. I can really understand that, but it kind of negates the experience for the viewer.
You have to be open minded, with no attitudes from start and go with the flow. Then you will find more perspectives in this song than what was the focus on these comments. As one of you listener said; It’s all about if the listener have contact with ones own emotions and where they are at the moment.
Btw, Swede's don't do overwrought emotion. Alicia Vikander also looks emotionally dead in almost every performance... Tove Lo? Same thing... This is about as emotional as a Swede is gonna get so yeah... It's authentic! If you want drama, Chanel and SloMo from Spain is your jam....
That is a good point.. I'd not say swedes are "lacking" expressionality, but psycchology research suggest differences in emotion perception and expression between countries. Only thing is, most people who really listen to the song (not looking at it through technical glasses) seem to get the "feels" no matter nationality... :)
I think Americans think that you really must cry your eyes out and do dramatic gestures to convey feelings. But Swedes are not like that. We don't do over the top stuff like that

I do really like this one. The raspy voice suits the song well and it just feels… complete somehow. Not sure the staging is enough as it stands for Eurovision but in with a shot for the win. And rightfully so.
One of the favourites this year. If it were up to me, judging based on initial reaction on what people think in the fandom, I would gamble a LOT of money on this or Italy's song winning this year.
"Give me more pain!" 😂I don`t know why but this year I prefer Lithuania`s and Sweden`s songs. Maybe because of long covid time and war in Ukraine now I want something just easy to listen to, what just flows.

You should really watch both the other performances! The Semi-final version is the most calm because it was just 500 people in the audience and the winning performance has a little surprise in the last 20-30 sec 😍 This performance is the worst out of all her but obviously it's not bad! You should really react to the other two performances to be able to compare. This performance you watched is the first in the final when it was 24 000 people ish so that's why her voice may seem a bit overwhelmed❤️🇸🇪
This IS the Eurovision 2022 winner, mark my words! Very few songs can make me sob so effectively as this one... So good! A lil bit Robyn... A lil bit Cardigans... A lil bit Janis Joplin... Love it!
A female finally! My favourite Swedish entry for a long time, currently in my top 5. Like you said it feels more authentic than Swedish entries often do. And in general basically the type of music I generally enjoy outside of the contest.
It’s the other way around babe, you did not understand a word of what they said 🤷🏻♂️ and above all - you failed to understand the meaning of expressing one’s thoughts that don’t necessarily need to overlap with yours. I wonder if that was the post-win performance and that's why she's smiling. It happened with another country as well with a sad song. It always seems questionable to use a post-win performance.
Feels like you all went in to this reaction with disdain or something. One of the best entries of the year, a unique song with a heavenly voice and you managed to nag from start to finish. Talking about american accents in a european music competition? Makes no sense. Guess everyone doesn't appreciate talent

"Jury groups from six countries were disqualified after cheating in the Eurovision song contest. They gave each other the highest score and tried to lower Sweden." This hatred against Sweden...
The problem with the performance is that she's to busy on the stage. Good song but i keep thinking keep it small don't move so much around it's annoying.
Maia, looking good with the new hairstyle 🤩. I don't really get the hype about this one to be honest. It's a good song and she performs it well, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's that extraordinary, not in my top 10.
So great to see you guys (and Maya!) back after what feels like several weeks. You've been missed. Another year, another swedish song that's objectively good but just doesn't do much for me. Admittedly the melody do tend to get stuck in my head, but when watching the performance it leaves me a bit indefferent. Meh. Sweden doing Sweden things. But thank you for the video. Love from Denmark
Hey there Myrtle! Ive fallen off keeping up wiht oyu, but hope to work on my backlog. As far as this entry goes, I do enjoy the song, thjo it took me a while to get there. While I know she is the author of the song, I truly believ eher particular vocal timbre is NOT RIGHT for this particular song... it's got too much of a rough/raspy edge for something that has so much tearjerker potential. I think she would work better in a different style of ballad, or something in one of the rock genres. ALl that said, if she does a better job with her vocals at ESC than she did at Mello, it will finish very well. I don't truly see it winning, but there are some definite wild card factors this year. It's entirely probable that all those male megaballads will bloody each other. In that situation Italy does have a double-edged sword: it doesnt have to qualify, but also will have limited exposure.
For some reason this song (and performance) does nothing for me. I don't know what it is, but I'm so not into it. It's a perfectly good song, and I'm sure it will do great in the contest, but this one just isn't up there for me. Sorry Sweden.
Interesting. Psychology research into Americans and more collectivistic cultures suggest there's quite a gap in emotional expressions. Where e.g. americans are the most expressful, and asians particularly japaneese people have least expressive people (in social settings). Swedes are def. more collectivistic then americans, although it's changing. This has an effect on the perception of emotions as well... where e.g. an american would have a harder time to spot some expressions in less expressive faces. This goes the other way around as well.. :) Perhaps this is a glimpse of this.. Although here is great difference between people within the same culture. Even more so in individualistic countries. Lastly watching american tv shows, and even many american reality/docu series makes me cringe & want to hide behind a pillow sometimes due to the extreme dramatization, amd overly clear emotions. I guess being exposed to so much drama and exceptional expressionaily also has an effect on one's preception emotional expressions. Btw, not trying to say anything is more right or wrong than the other.. :) Just contemplating on cultural differences.. :) Over and out Quite Emotional Swede ;D
well I didnt like this song at melodifestivalen - and i still dont like it - its so predicatble.... whats happening in this song... we heard such songs so very often... the staging is as well nothing really exciting... in 3 minutes song among 25 songs in one evening u ve 2 stand out more... the televoting wining song by Anders Bagge was much catchier and better.... , love Tylers reaction at 6:06 :) :) its always fun 2 watch the group dynamic.... Maia always rolls the eyes when Tyler says something... Carlena is the "understander and harmonizer", and Rebekah and Tyler are the very different experts :) :) :)
There is absolutely no notes similar to Lady Gaga's Shallow. So it's something your mind is making up. And you have an Anti-Swedish bias.. So anything Sweden sends you're going to try to find any negative thing you can so as not to give the song a chance.

@@bjonndrogg6612 You appear to be under the impression that critique somehow relates to disturbance. (Or, perhaps that is what you want to assume, as a way to negate an opinion you do not share?) Meanwhile these kind of histrionic vocals and soap opera lyrics are popular. This will be in the top ten, I'm sure. The fact that I find it tacky, poorly sung, and superficial wont change that, but I am invited by the channel to give my opinion, so I do. Have you got a problem with that?
@@bjonndrogg6612 You are not buying it. Why do you not own that yourself, instead of invoking supposed others to back you up? You can think that if you wish, if it makes you happy, but why should I be angry? I have no problem with Sweden, women, ballads, or the ESC, I like them all. I do not like this song, in the same way I don't like Australia's, or Spain's songs. They leave me utterly cold. However, there are plenty this year that are far worse than these three. Seeing a few reactions to this song, when reviewers are watching in groups, they often completely misses the point of this heartache.
I've noticed this a lot from group reactors both for music and also for TV / movie reactions. Who cares about her accent! 😅 She is like a young Gianna Nannini! 😊
esc 2022 is the year of the sad girls
"Jury groups from six countries were disqualified after cheating in the Eurovision song contest. They gave each other the highest score and tried to lower Sweden." This hatred against Sweden...
The problem with the performance is that she's to busy on the stage.
Good song but i keep thinking keep it small don't move so much around it's annoying.
Hon skrev texten efter egna upplevelser.
Beautiful song, lovely voice but common structure.
To you, eeew. Grown ups to need to grow up.. Law ja❤️
Well, she won? So I think she has to be pretty good?
Maia, looking good with the new hairstyle 🤩.
I don't really get the hype about this one to be honest. It's a good song and she performs it well, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's that extraordinary, not in my top 10.
I would like to hear this guy speak swedish and let’s hear if he speaks correctly, no he won’t because that is not his native language
Well...
The group generally miss the point and the guy on the right just misses everything and even the concept what they are doing.
Ah yes, cause europeans famously seek to imitate a specific USian accent that no one else notices. 😅 I find that complaint funny.
This is just the best ESC reaction channel, love how you have those different takes.
No habla inglesh.. don´t understand you.. it´s just wierd.
I love Tyler
Smiling when talking about right man, wrong time = irony
Odd reaction I have to say 😑👎
The song itself is so great and I wish I could enjoy it but I just can't stand the singer's voice.
Did you get to hear Sheldon Riley's cover of the song. I think I prefer it
@@MyrtleP I heard it now, I also prefer it
A estos no le gusta nada! Son detestables con el trabajo de los demás 😒😒😒😒😒 spain and sweden winners!!!!
Haha hahhaha eeeeewww
This is totally uninteresting to me.. So much nonsense. You get a zero.
Just radio sweden song hit, nothing special.
For some reason this song (and performance) does nothing for me. I don't know what it is, but I'm so not into it. It's a perfectly good song, and I'm sure it will do great in the contest, but this one just isn't up there for me. Sorry Sweden.
It's ok! / Greetings from Sweden 😉
Then Give The Wolf a Banana, my friend! ;-)
@@stickynorth I'd better, or he may eat my grandma! :)
Over and out
Quite Emotional Swede ;D
well I didnt like this song at melodifestivalen - and i still dont like it - its so predicatble.... whats happening in this song... we heard such songs so very often... the staging is as well nothing really exciting... in 3 minutes song among 25 songs in one evening u ve 2 stand out more... the televoting wining song by Anders Bagge was much catchier and better.... , love Tylers reaction at 6:06 :) :) its always fun 2 watch the group dynamic.... Maia always rolls the eyes when Tyler says something... Carlena is the "understander and harmonizer", and Rebekah and Tyler are the very different experts :) :) :)
I can’t feel what people say they feel when I listen to this. Meh. Not my favourite.
This is so basic.
Oh God! This song is a copy of Lady Gaga's Shallow. If any country that is not called Sweden sends "this" to ESC it is in last position
Your wrong
I guess if you are tonedeaf then yes it is a copy
And Lady Gaga copied Janis Joplin's style to give Shallow that flavor. Your point is? LOL...
There is absolutely no notes similar to Lady Gaga's Shallow. So it's something your mind is making up. And you have an Anti-Swedish bias.. So anything Sweden sends you're going to try to find any negative thing you can so as not to give the song a chance.
You’re delusional lol
The ARORA you hear in hear voice is because they are from the same Scandinavian soul but on english language ❤️ You 4 People have just get the winner of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST in TURIN 2022 👍🇸🇪👍🎸🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾
Her dead eyes are not as dead as mine when I listen to this. She comes across as amateur to me.
The chipmunk voice doesn't help.
You seem angry
@@bjonndrogg6612 You appear to be under the impression that critique somehow relates to disturbance. (Or, perhaps that is what you want to assume, as a way to negate an opinion you do not share?)
Meanwhile these kind of histrionic vocals and soap opera lyrics are popular. This will be in the top ten, I'm sure. The fact that I find it tacky, poorly sung, and superficial wont change that, but I am invited by the channel to give my opinion, so I do. Have you got a problem with that?
@@alipanroosendaal9503 Yea, noone is buying that alipan
@@bjonndrogg6612 You are not buying it. Why do you not own that yourself, instead of invoking supposed others to back you up?
You can think that if you wish, if it makes you happy, but why should I be angry? I have no problem with Sweden, women, ballads, or the ESC, I like them all. I do not like this song, in the same way I don't like Australia's, or Spain's songs. They leave me utterly cold. However, there are plenty this year that are far worse than these three.
Luckily there are also some great songs, and I am listening to those regularly.
