    The US can for sure use avocado pits and other natural products to imitate plastic for utensil use. Yet not a single major fast food joint or food spot is setting the trend yet. And the EU has been on this stuff successfully.

    I love this! I'm all for this sort of thing, especially using what remains of sugarcane being used for meal trays. I also love that the man refused to bleach the meal trays and that he actually pays his employees a living wage. Quite a good man there!
    The pineapple scraps as well, with the products having seeds in them so that people can also grow new plants from these biodegradable items.
    Is this sort of thing being done here in North America, or available here? Just wondering.

    Truly amazing how well preserved that surgical glove is considering it was just inside a fish! No slime or anything on it. If I’d known how clean an item can be kept in a fish’s stomach I would keep my socks in fish instead of drawers!

    There's still hope! It's crucial to see that we have alternatives to replace plastic. Still, we also need to be aware that these alternatives are clean. Our crew filmed a project that intends to solve our water issue. The idea is to turn seawater into fresh water in a clean way. The project is still under construction, but we are curious to see if it turns out to really work.

    I think hemp is the future. It grows really fast and you can use the entire plant to make sort of a fiberglass material that is 10x stronger than steel.

    This initiatives really give me hope. Probably giving fiscal incentives to businesses making biodegradable products is the best strategy - if you make biodegradable plastic, you get a tax cut.

    Algae based plastics maybe an excellent solution for the future. The Algae can used for waste water cleaning and then sold to companies manufacturing the Algae based plastics.

      People already use bioplastics but it isn't the norm yet. In the end it depends on the consumable producing companies whether we'll see bioplastics more often in our daily lifes. Having this technology is great but you also gotta actually use it in the industry...

      People have literally been using bioplastic since before the invention of petroleum plastics. To say that they "already exist" isn't enough as long as I can't buy food without getting petroleum plastics too.

      @@aditisk99 Humans have moved species from one continent to another causing large extinctions of numerous species. Alien species are usually more competitive than native one and they are not eaten by anyone. Moving seeds around the world could speed up this process. Moreover, if the same species (wild) and from the plate cross pollinate and interbreed, there can be "genetic pollution".

    Plastic is everywhere, recycle as much of it as possible into long-lasting, long time useful products. Even whole houses can be made out of plastic, like lego style bricks, colorful wall tiles, roof tiles, windows, doors, etc. The entire body of a car, furniture, entire underground rain water collecting and storing systems and so much other stuff can be made of recycled plastic.
    If that's not enough, burn it and use it as fuel. It comes from oil.

      bro.... it's a stupid solution. Avocado production is highly water-intensive, roughly 70 liters per fruit. I'm okay with other items, but not Avocado.

      @@jadecoolness101 What I mean is the more ppl farm avocados (and of course demand avocados), there will be places with overdrawn water sources and it's surrounding. You can see several videos about the effect of farming avocados on the surrounding places.
      It's not good for the long run. Better choose water-wise plants and vegetables instead.

      Plus, the technology of making "plastic" with avocado material can eventually be expanded to other plant fibers.
      It'd be great if we could jump to the best product first but... we don't have the luxury of time to wait for the best.

    With all the wood from building materials that are waste, or just about any wood waste can still be used as paper products. So why not keep using them. Trees are still being cut down, paper is still produced, paper can still be recycled over and over, way more then plastic. It's also way better for the environment, because it decomposes.

    We can go back to using glass instead of plastic 2L sodas. We can go back to using shoes made of leather and rubber that can be repaired by cobblers. We can reduce plastic packaging and use paper.

    it's nice that a lot of the every day plastic packaging can now be replaced with biodegradable alternatives. there's still some plastic products that dont yet have an alternative like bottles or tape

      There are! Bioplastic bottles can be made. One of my friends has a factory producing bioplastic bottles.

      @@xXxSkyViperxXx The are made of the most common bioplastic called PLA (polylactic acid). They use some modification via natural additives for tailor made properties, but the bottles got the four star OK biobased certificate.

      @@xXxSkyViperxXx As I know it only contains bioplastic (besides the natural additives like cellulose fibers). Their policy is that they are not using any conventional plastic, since it could cause promblems if their products ended in a compost and all of the component would not be bio-based as well as biodegradable.

      It's fake, there's no damage to the glove, and it's completely clean. Also looks like the fish has been gutted.. They literally stuffed a glove down a fish they likely bought to make a dramatic opening scene.

    As long as we keep treating bio plastic products the same way we do with regular plastics we still have the same problem. It’s still a plastic that should be disposed off and treated in the right way. Biodegradable plastic is btw not the same as bio-based plastics and need to be treated differently.

    I realized that although the alternatives contain less of everything, what's never said is much less. They still use fossil fuels and chemicals. I would like to know the difference. I would also like to know of there is a way to create the same woth without the fossil fuels in totality.
