A few decades ago, plastic was virtually unheard of. Today, we can’t work out out how to get rid of it.

Plastic is a byproduct of oil refineries, so as long as we are dependent on oil for power plastic ain’t going nowhere

The US can for sure use avocado pits and other natural products to imitate plastic for utensil use. Yet not a single major fast food joint or food spot is setting the trend yet. And the EU has been on this stuff successfully.
My country already banned plastic containers in 2017.
The rest of us just use our hands

Do you kno how much water avocados need to grow? It’s not a sustainable thing in the climate they need to grow as well.

I love this! I'm all for this sort of thing, especially using what remains of sugarcane being used for meal trays. I also love that the man refused to bleach the meal trays and that he actually pays his employees a living wage. Quite a good man there!
The pineapple scraps as well, with the products having seeds in them so that people can also grow new plants from these biodegradable items.
Is this sort of thing being done here in North America, or available here? Just wondering.

You'll find it easier to buy these things in the US, India and China than in other countries, I think

In this day and age it’s the folks like this who strive to save our planet who are the real superheroes.
Like bill gates, Obama, Al gore and the rest of those rich politicians telling you what to do to save the world from the inside of their private jets and beachfront properties that those same people told us would be under water years ago? My heroes. Plastics suck but carbon is what you and I are made of and all that carbon wasn’t always in the dirt. Carbon emissions are the biggest joke since the war on terror.
Truly amazing how well preserved that surgical glove is considering it was just inside a fish! No slime or anything on it. If I’d known how clean an item can be kept in a fish’s stomach I would keep my socks in fish instead of drawers!

There's still hope! It's crucial to see that we have alternatives to replace plastic. Still, we also need to be aware that these alternatives are clean. Our crew filmed a project that intends to solve our water issue. The idea is to turn seawater into fresh water in a clean way. The project is still under construction, but we are curious to see if it turns out to really work.
I really wished that this was possible, but its not. We are humans. We are ment to destroy ourselfs. Its our nature, if you believe it or not. Just because you can convince 1% of the population to live a sustainable life doesnt mean the rest is gonna follow or even accept this. And to be honest: We deserve to be gone. Let me guess: Very pessimistic. Tell me something we didnt know. By the way: Lets just look forward and see the future ;)

It's called desalination and is already used in some areas of the world.
@@maecarpenter6735 ‘in a clean way’. Most desalination projects aren’t clean. I heard some plants just release concentrated brine solutions that are very harmful to marine life.

The sequences of waste plastic in the environment are really depressing, but I'm glad some companies are working to reduce our dependence on plastic.
I think hemp is the future. It grows really fast and you can use the entire plant to make sort of a fiberglass material that is 10x stronger than steel.
More amazing ideas like these will make our world an amazing place for future generations. Cool to see multiple countries starting to see the benefits even if it's just in business growth right now. Keep this wheel rollin'! 😄

Guess what. You're still going to have mountains of plastics if they simply change where the raw materials come from. Making them from avocados instead of petroleum doesn't change that.
Forget global warming PR, microplastics in human and animal consuption needs to be resolved first!!!
This initiatives really give me hope. Probably giving fiscal incentives to businesses making biodegradable products is the best strategy - if you make biodegradable plastic, you get a tax cut.

Algae based plastics maybe an excellent solution for the future. The Algae can used for waste water cleaning and then sold to companies manufacturing the Algae based plastics.
Algae also sucks up CO2 pretty well.

News stories have been talking about replacing plastics at least since I was a kid. It has been almost half a century, still wondering when it will actually happen.
It will be a slow process as plastic and thermacoal sheets are very cheap and easy to use product
Yep this "story" has had a big part of my life since I was born, then they started going on about "plastic and climate change" its been 31 years and only a small step in the right direction has happened, its like they say your imagination is key if we are able to return what we take but give a little more than what we take this planet may live a lot longer
People already use bioplastics but it isn't the norm yet. In the end it depends on the consumable producing companies whether we'll see bioplastics more often in our daily lifes. Having this technology is great but you also gotta actually use it in the industry...
People have literally been using bioplastic since before the invention of petroleum plastics. To say that they "already exist" isn't enough as long as I can't buy food without getting petroleum plastics too.

@@romanglinnik8073 When bioplastics are affordable, they'll immediately replace petroleum products. However, saying they are cheaper is a blatant lie, since they aren't. A lot of journalists would rather lie than provide honest reporting.

@@aditisk99 Humans have moved species from one continent to another causing large extinctions of numerous species. Alien species are usually more competitive than native one and they are not eaten by anyone. Moving seeds around the world could speed up this process. Moreover, if the same species (wild) and from the plate cross pollinate and interbreed, there can be "genetic pollution".

I have not viewed a single component of this video about these efforts to use what was waste to improve the environment. I have read a little about mushroom waste. So it would be valuable to learn updated information about these very businesses, to see what improvements have been made.

Ok. Not to create any political arguments on here.. But as a independent republican or just an independent with some liberal beliefs, I still believe that this is something that we should focus on and considered. No matter which party is in charge. And we need to make that people are on board with this instead of forcing it on to them
Plastic is everywhere, recycle as much of it as possible into long-lasting, long time useful products. Even whole houses can be made out of plastic, like lego style bricks, colorful wall tiles, roof tiles, windows, doors, etc. The entire body of a car, furniture, entire underground rain water collecting and storing systems and so much other stuff can be made of recycled plastic.
If that's not enough, burn it and use it as fuel. It comes from oil.

bro.... it's a stupid solution. Avocado production is highly water-intensive, roughly 70 liters per fruit. I'm okay with other items, but not Avocado.

@@jadecoolness101 What I mean is the more ppl farm avocados (and of course demand avocados), there will be places with overdrawn water sources and it's surrounding. You can see several videos about the effect of farming avocados on the surrounding places.
It's not good for the long run. Better choose water-wise plants and vegetables instead.

Plus, the technology of making "plastic" with avocado material can eventually be expanded to other plant fibers.
It'd be great if we could jump to the best product first but... we don't have the luxury of time to wait for the best.

With Nano mites, we can completely recycle anything, get rid of all pollution in the air water and soil, have the best crop's and never have to mine again. The possibilities are limitless.

With all the wood from building materials that are waste, or just about any wood waste can still be used as paper products. So why not keep using them. Trees are still being cut down, paper is still produced, paper can still be recycled over and over, way more then plastic. It's also way better for the environment, because it decomposes.

Bioplastics use more formaldehyde and chemicals that leech out during use and/or composting. There is a reason why they weren't used 100 years ago but plastics took off and were

Where can I get a pack from life pak, I will be using a lot of box or packing materials so giving something back in the form of life is what I could be proud to support
We can go back to using glass instead of plastic 2L sodas. We can go back to using shoes made of leather and rubber that can be repaired by cobblers. We can reduce plastic packaging and use paper.
it's nice that a lot of the every day plastic packaging can now be replaced with biodegradable alternatives. there's still some plastic products that dont yet have an alternative like bottles or tape
There are! Bioplastic bottles can be made. One of my friends has a factory producing bioplastic bottles.

@@xXxSkyViperxXx The are made of the most common bioplastic called PLA (polylactic acid). They use some modification via natural additives for tailor made properties, but the bottles got the four star OK biobased certificate.

Their policy is that they are not using any conventional plastic, since it could cause promblems if their products ended in a compost and all of the component would not be bio-based as well as biodegradable.

It's fake, there's no damage to the glove, and it's completely clean. Also looks like the fish has been gutted.. They literally stuffed a glove down a fish they likely bought to make a dramatic opening scene.
As long as we keep treating bio plastic products the same way we do with regular plastics we still have the same problem. It’s still a plastic that should be disposed off and treated in the right way. Biodegradable plastic is btw not the same as bio-based plastics and need to be treated differently.

I realized that although the alternatives contain less of everything, what's never said is much less. They still use fossil fuels and chemicals. I would like to know the difference. I would also like to know of there is a way to create the same woth without the fossil fuels in totality.
i fully support earth friendly plastic alternatives, however i don't think NOT eating meat / livestock products could significantly save the earth
