He's the right mix of cynical and optimistic that this world needs.
I think that but I like how he doesn't use the "there's no God" line to get an easy laugh...he kind of does but he shows how it's not really that simple and is another preconditioned response to clap at the statement

There are some similarities in their ways they criticize society but a key fundamental difference is that, if you actually pay attention to the wording of his comedy, how he presents it, and compare it to today, George would be more in line with the chaotic leftists. He was very anti corporate, somewhat anti government, and more in line with anarchy. He has gone on to hate every racial group in some ways (mostly white people if you pay attention to how he words things) in some way or another, in very dramatic and deconstructive and chaotic ways.
Steve hughes on the other hand has gone on record in recent years to say he finds himself aligning more right nowadays with how our countries in the west are all freaking out, attacking free thought, and attacking free speech. Those are the very things that Comedy bases itself on, and why comedians are floating towards at the very least, the center today.
Don't get me wrong, I respect Carlin's comedy and career, he was a fantastic comedian, and deserves the respect he gets. Just saying the parallels are there for everyone to see, right out in the open. Because as we all know, George hid nothing about his beliefs in his comedy and in his life.
