- Out with the deadbaits once again. The fishing had been hard recently on the lures with a few blanks behind me i decided dead baits were probably the way to go in this horrible cold snowy weather. Canal is the target for most of my sessions at the minuet as the rivers are completely flooded.

Nothing but blanks recently too. Was using lures but might give the dead bait a try this weekend

I have to be honest when I first started watching your videos I wasn't an instant fan, BUT..... have to admit I am now enjoying the updates so keep them coming. Top job doing the videos as well in winter conditions, I have a job just trying take a bloody selfie once I do land a fish!!

Cool vid mate. I do love a days fishing but I go as far away from people as I can try find a super quiet place to get peace. Light my little twig stove pop a coffee on and enjoy the quiet for a few hours
Excellent care for the fish! I let them rest after i unhook them aswell, just to make sure the fish swims away in the same condition as before👌

On lures ,dead bait,nothing is working for the moment 😭😭,but this we call fishing , sometimes you catch and sometimes no .

@@The_ginger_fisherman , Chris it's a very nice 27 degrees today and no humidity which is awful sometimes. The only time i get anywhere near temps like you get, it's when i open the frezzer door for ice cubes . Not the rapper 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.stay safe 👍🇦🇺

I was fishing the Rochdale Canal in the summer between Middleton and Failsworth (just for small stuff) and pike were everywhere. I even caught a couple of jacks on maggot, but I saw fish 10lbs + in the shallows. There are plenty of decent sized fish in places, but actually getting 'em out of there seems to be a different matter entirely given the amount of blanks the lads who were piking were drawing.
Nice fishin...so it is hard even where you are!...river here is about as stirred as a crypt...yes I make a point of throwing my unused dead baits into spots where they may feed some hungry fish...
I love fishing for pike all year round, great catching one with other peoples trebles because its a chance for that fish to live a long life. I will say before someone comments about fishing for them in summer, I only fish by water mills.

Blimmin 'eck lad it's a bit cold on the bank at the moment. Did get a decent Pike last week. Went out today for all of 10 minutes. Blimmin freezing!

really hard going here to on my local cut, its gone so murkey and there is a crappy weed growth on the suface that will not go away. i keep trying the drop shot fishing but no good yet, at least your getting a bend in your rod mate

Since you pot the idea in my head based on my experience, given the size of pike potential and their variety of diet...even a 20 lbr if hungry enough would succeed in taking a small pocket pooch should it fall in water...
They have potential to eat small animals I have seen ducks randomly freak out and get pulled under. Ps my mom saw a huge pike(in the same lake)about 30-40 pounds while paddle boarding.

Well done for getting ANYTHING during this cold spell, Chris. Although with Pike there's always a chance when the weather is like this. Deadbaiting usually does the trick.☺

I am new to this kind of fishing and would like to ask you a question about the gear you are using. I noticed that when fishing with dead bait you use thick line. Please tell me what diameter of mono line you use and why don't you use braided line, because it is thinner with the same breaking loads?

With foat fishing with dead bait, how deep are you fishing, do you let the dead bait hang or is it resting on the bottom of the swim?
Was you fishing on the bottom here mate or was the bait in midwater ?
I know sardines are very soft to fish with. Do you use bait elastic or bait fins on the hooks to help them stay on? Is it best to hook through the mouth and down thr body to avoid losing it when casting
Hello what canal do you fish. Ours seems void of fish compared to yours. We have tried all last winter for a pike. After miles and miles of walking and trying lures, dead baits, live baits we had zero.
Even the small fish disappear. The canal becomes crystal clear and can't see a thing
If they are jaw marks on the first jack, it looks like a 30 has had a pop! No 20 has a skull that size.

Hello sir! Really enjoy the videos, thank you! Something I always wonder when watching your canal/river deadbaiting videos is whether you plumb for depth at every new swim, or do you just fish the rig enough over depth that the float is never going to be pulled under by the bait?

Hey Chris - another great (much needed!) vid. Are you fishing on the bottom with that dead bait? If not, how far off the bottom? T. I. A.
It needs no bullet weight under the float? You don't see that often. Are you suspending the bait or is it sitting on the deck?
I personally never use a bullet weight . I find it puts the fish off. I only fish shallow waters so when the fish picks the bait up off the bottom I still get a strong indication on the float

Nice vid man, this weekend am going to fish with dead bait too, very slow with lures doesn't work well, are there times that you caught nothing? I guess not...
Lures do work lad just not when it’s freezing because they don’t want to chase baits because they’re obviously lethargic in too cold weather
@@keanecliff4247 That's right, were i fish it's very hard to catch a pike, with this weather it's harder for everone to catch pike, tomorrow i give it a try with dead bait and the other rod with a slow swimbait, i'll keep on trying!👍
Jesus man iv blanked the last 7 sessions, im starting to loose faith all together. Tried dead baiting, tried lure fishing and nothing 😑
sounds like there are no pike where you're fishing, try somewhere else
@@weaverflytyer iv been fishing several different places in my local area, they used to fish great back in the day but since iv got back into pike fishing last year they have fished pretty poor tbh.

It's a running joke that Ginger Fisher man wouldn't have a problem fishing our spots. I dunno how he catches so consistently 🤔
@@richpeas1924 all the places where i fish that are accessible from the bank, have been heavily over fished unfortunately. And on top of that people killing pike doesn't help matters ither, im considering investing in a boat.

Good vid - word of caution though with regards to the knife you cut the Mackerel with...
I was stopped by the police (complete with fishing gear), and following their search of me (why? I have no idea!), they accepted my excuse and fortunately just verbally cautioned me with regards to the knife I was carrying to cut deadbaits with.
Don't do it anymore - either pre-cut them before freezing or take a very small pair of scissors and hack my way through.
The UK law states a blade of up to 6 inches can be carried for fishing
Infact it says 3 inches but it states that if you are doing an activity where the use of a knife is needed and isn't a banned knife then any reasonable size is ok
@@petertomo95 I had no idea why I was stopped - maybe I just looked suspicious!! - however, in this day and age, anyone found with a bladed article could be charged - never know what type of Police Officer you will get - for example:
Remember getting stopped by the police around 03:30 walking down Hackney Road towards the Regents Canal, start of the fishing season around 37 years ago.
They asked me where I was going at that time of the morning (Holdall on left shoulder, seat on the right shoulder and carryall in the right hand) - I told him "Skiing - where do think I'm going with all this?" They stopped and searched me, questioned me about the large scissors I had in my bag for chopped worm fishing (neglected the 4ft pointed aluminium banksticks!) but, after a few grumbles, they let me leave.
I'm simply saying that deadbaiting or not, you need to be careful.

Pike fishing in the Uk supermarkets aren't closed, you can usually get amongst other fish, Sprats and Mackerel, two of the best dead baits going 👍👍
