This Big Urban Canal Pike Needed My Help!

- Well i was supposed to be hitting the local river on this day to target some big perch, but after i received a message about a pike in need of a little help I decided to change my plans. I hit the canal in search of a pike with line and a float rig trailing out of its mouth. The plan was to use the easiest cheat method (live baiting) to ensure the capture of the pike to be able to remove the rigging and release her to be able to live safe and comfortably without a mouth of hooks and line. This is how it went.

I'm very impressed that you were fishing for one specific fish and caught it. Very glad you were able to save her. Pike can live for 20-25 years, so you really did a great thing.
Ppl don't realize that most fisherman are also very concerned conservationists. Well done sir! Big respect from east coast, USA.
But he killed a healthy Roach to catch it?
@@25is27 see your point. He should have eaten the pike. I would have.
That is the mindset of a real fisherman. (The person noticing that pike and you removing the hooks/lines). Well done!
I couldn’t agree more wouter 👍
Thing is if it wasn't for people fishing the Pike wouldn't be in this situation in the first place
@@gavinstarling8737 and if ppl wouldent eat meat , all animals would be Safe and over populating the world , IF humans dident exist , the Earth would be a much cleaner place , so your point is ? Kill all humans and make the Earth a better planet ?
Maybe, but it is not the mind of a mathematician.
Think in this day and age if a hook and line was submerged in water for a few weeks would be degrade, I'm subscribing simply as he saved a fish which big size 1s are in decline, Well done fella pat your self on back from all pike anglers, That looked a powerful pike now can grow to be a Beast of a fish
Your a good man , with a caring heart Chris . Another great job and iam so surprised nobody has approached you to do a TV show on your passion for fishing etc . I believe if they did it would be a great success. Keep up the good work .
There should be more fisherman and fisherwomen doing great things like this gentlemen has done here. Its vital we look after our fish and the environment they live in if fishing is going to be a hobby to be enjoyed by everyone in years to come. We must have respect for our fish and wildlife in general and leave each fishing spot we use clean from fishing debris. Great work Sir job well done :)
Made my day watching this. 40 years ago when I was an ill-equipped teenager I caught a strong and healthy looking fine specimen of a pike by mistake and after a big fight, he got away with my hook and 10 pound line in his mouth. I still feel the guilt but this clip has reduced some of my guilt even though it would be a different pike.
That is what i call a top fisherman. Your fish handling is superb, you didbt try to do everything at once. You understood how important it was to let the fish breathe and rest up from all its fighting. Kudos my man.
This guy is quickly becoming my favourite CZcams fisherman. Well done on such a stand up job. 👍🏼
He already is mine 🤣🤣🦾
It might have taken the fish when got it on I have had pike take my maggot and got them out
@@davidsimssims8289 pike on maggots thats a 1st 🤣🤣🤣
Yes on maggot they do occasionally take when fishing not big ones but on the river and the canal
@@Jordan-jo8wc Is it heck, people have caught Pike on Maggots, worm's, boilies fake corn ect for years.
This is insane the fact you have gone there to find that one specific pike to help it out and actually caught it is mental. hats off to you fair play👏👏
Im not someone who fishes, but I love to seeing a job done properly with care, considertaion and respect. Well done.
I do too! Just love it. 👍
"Proper" angler. Thanks so much for sharing. You have made my day. Best wishes for the future.
I just ran into your channel, and wanted to congratulate you on the empathy you have for life!!!!!
May you have a better year than last and continue to progress always!!!!!!
Awesome job mate, the fact you managed to rescue the pike and make it an informative educational based video on the do’s and don’t’s for those who don’t know is great. Always enjoy the content so thanks for keeping them coming!
Well done Chris, excellent job. It's good to see such a caring fisherman, keep up the good work.
I wouldn't expect anything less from Chris, a true ambassador for the sport
Great work freeing that pike of all the unwanted line. So good to see a fisherman who cares about what the do.👍
Absolute top job Chris 🙌 Top man helping out that beautiful lump of a pike.
I was pike in fishing in Co Cavan in the '80s. I saw people fishing for these beauties with a pop bottle, free drifting with a bait on trebbles underneath. RESPECT THESE FISH!
At the 7 minute and 35 second marker there is a dirty syringe in the net with the fish.
Great work , nice to see you helping that fish . You are what real fishing is all about .
made me laff the bream - we used to have the best Bronze dustbin lids in the UK in East Anglia on the broads ,huge shoals ,all; hybrids now unless you can get to where humans cant in the sticks - id be overjoyed at a little bronzer :D
By killing another fish 🐟 🧐.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience with us. I was cheering for the two of you the entire time.
you're a saint, hate the conception that fish don't feel pain or experience an existence that makes them unique and individually special, not just an ingredient in a recipe
Well done mate for saving this gorgeous pike, nice to see some people actually like pike, alot do not. They are part of the balance of water systems keeping them in top condition. Top man👍
well done, i have'nt been fishing for years but the sport needs people like you.
Well done for your efforts Sir. A fabulous little piece of Pike medication.
I'm not a fisherman but appreciate what you did there. People think that if you hunt or fish , you do'nt have the best interest of the quarry at heart. That just is not true. Good for you Ginge, very healthy pike, thanks to you.
Excellent job. Pike are very fragile fish and your care in getting those hooks out and returning it in to the water in great health is very heartening. Well done, Sir.
Great job and I am astonished at how skillfully you targeted the one fish. Lovely that the fish can go on and prosper.
Great to see someone who genuinely cares about fish welfare, bet that that pike was so relieved to have all those hooks and line removed, nice one.
If you genuinely care, you wouldn't fish, would you.

Please explain how killing one fish to save another one translates to "genuinely cares"?
@@TrainsAndTrees Totally agree with you, I've never used deadbait for fishing for pike, and also never use treble hooks, awful things in my opinion, I only use a single hook, I'll probably get grief of the pike fisherman who use treble hooks but that's expected.
Respect the environment, respect the fish!
For all the fun these awesome creatures give, the VERY least we can do is look after their welfare. This was something we instinctively knew back in the day. It just seems that common decency is missing from so much of today's society.
Great job, Chris, and the person who alerted you to the pike in peril.
This is the best example of a fisherman helping out another fish 🐟 with great results. Top job by a top bloke! 👍🏾
Kudos to you Chris, top bloke doing an amazing job of keeping our wonderful species in top condition 🎣🎣
Well done to the person who noticed the pike. Brilliant job for removing all the line and hooks.
No kidding Cheryl.....I love it that somebody took the time to report this fish was in trouble and that they knew Chris was the guy to get the job done!
@@tracylee4297 Too right.
Top work. People like you is exactly what the sport needs to thrive and get positive PR.
Well done Chris. Never been into fishing but enjoyed watching how you saved the lovely Pike from suffering the torment it was going through. Bless ya .
The angling Trust should find a way of giving you an award for fish conservation......well done ✔
I absolutely love the respect and care you show to the fish you catch. Outstanding.
Such a good man you are Chris , you here of a pike in distress and got there and saved it with nearly surgical treatment bravo mate!!!
Words fail me.
Your an absolute star Chris, thank heavens there are people like you in this world.
Cheers from 🇨🇦, great job mate! True sportsman. Nobody takes better care of nature than those who enjoy it!
Just the title of this video is enough for me to give a like, that said i like all your videos but anyone who goes out of their way to help someone or something gets my respect, great work mate.
Chris you are the man. You went out of your way to help that pike, TOP JOB 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Showing the world that gingers do have souls. Thats what it's all about right there mate, respect 🙌
Hey Chris! I've been watching your videos throughout the dreaded lockdowns and you've kept me inspired to hit the canals for jack and perch.
Always great to see anglers like yourself respecting the art of watercraft and the species in the water.
Keep up the videos man! Always a welcome watch when I come home from work and want to get the ultralight out!
Top regards from a fellow Ginger fisherman
Amazing. Snagged bro also did this, caught the pike on a hookless lure, the pike was dragging a lure that was hooked in the side of its belly . They saved it successfully also
Fantastic stuff mate, we need ambassadors like you to show the positive aspects of our sport which is often marred by a minority of thoughtless, heartless, and reckless individuals.
Well done for catching that pike.now this is what we like about the fishing community.we look after the fish.this is where the youngsters get a bad rep.because they never use the right tools or set up and then you get fish or birds caught up.was just talking to our local bayliff the other week about this.parents or grandparents this is where we educate.as a newbe to your chanel your doing a great job.subbed.
I don’t fish but admire your ethic sir - a job well done 👍🏻
Great job Chris. Enthusiasm, skill and educational all at the same time! Really enjoy your channel - but this particular video has it all. Well done and keep up the great work!
It is always comfortable to see a person taking care of an animal in distress ... and to point it out is very important
Great job helping this fish out! I'm glad someone said something about the fish having line on it so you could help it out.
God damn this was the best video I have seen in a while! Absolute stunning work and way to handle the fish. So respectful and professional. Great job!
Awesome work. So good seeing responsible fishermen looking out for the fish.
The care you take with all the fish you catch is a big reason I keep watching
Great to watch someone knowledgeable who cares about fish. Smashing.
Well done that man. Good to see a fellow angler looking after the fish that he catches, top job!
That was outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. I'm sitting here watching thinking, "Someone spotted a pike? How the heck are you supposed to find it?!" And I guess that the location was more contained than I imagined, although I felt like even a contained area would have some selection of pike to choose from and you spot it right off!. That was just fantastic to watch and your planning was brilliant. Keep the fish mostly in water and then work on it in spurts as quickly as possible. Great video, again!
Great skill and confidence in dealing with this critical situation……Thanks for your care👌👍🥇🎥
Well done! Gentleman angler! A master-class in fish recovery. Unhurried, lots of resting and great fish handling! I learnt loads, thank you.
Fantastic! Well done Chris!
I am subscribing Just cuz of him helping this fish like that as a true fisherman and lover of fish like this awesome guy, SALUTE
Great job dude it’s very good of you to make a trip just to help this fish out. It only right too they provide us with so much sport, They should be looked after by the whole community.
Thank you sweetie, you have a heart of gold 🥰🥰
Fantastic mate what a good man.
Glad to see that healthy beast went back safe and sound.
You just became one of my favourite fishing channels on youtube. It is always pleasure to watch you, keep it up buddy!
You restored my faith in the sport of fishing great care put in and cracking content "reel" good angler props from 🇮🇪
This is what Vloging is all about. Giving the comunity an example about how to be responsible, 👍👍We need more of this. Well done , you deserved every subcriber you can get
My PB pike was caught on a tiny minnow lure in a foot of water while I was perch fishing. I was very very lucky the line held together as I was using an ultra light 5ft6 rod. It was the hardest fight of my life and Im just happy the line didnt snap and leave the lure in the pikes mouth !
my pb pike is on maggots 😭 went for carp reeling my rod in to go home andhe got the maggots (109 cm) also pucky the line didnt snap
My pb was on a trout lure about 10 cm
Same. Deep water retrieving my line to check my bait and she hit on the way up. Was able to land mine also. I had a live minnow on the end of a small hook for perch
Top notch Chris it boils my piss when people randomly and ill equipped with crap tackle and no knowledge.Pike are a gentle species despite their looks they don't tolerate rough/poor handling. No need for treble hooks in this day and age.Your skills and Pike husbandry are top draw mate people should watch and learn. If everyone fished for Pike like you it would benefit the fish/environment and educate the in experienced.Well done stay safe any chance of some circle hook livebaiting later on in the season. All the best mate.Tony
Forgot to add for all newbies or beginners to predator fishing buy a steel protection glove and some long nose pliers/forceps and some heavy duty metal/wire cutters until you gain more experience these items are Essential! Also try simpler fishing techniques like drop shotting or soft body lures and livebaiting with Single Hooks.Even deadbaiting can be successful with a single hook rig like Catfish rigs but on a wire trace.Dont be frightened of cutting rigs/wires to safe guard pike you can buy more LOOK AFTER YOUR PIKE PLEASE?
Great job Chris well done, he lives to fight another day keep up the good work tight lines Trevor.
Good Job Chris. This is the attitude all good anglers should have to ensure the welfare of OUR fish.
Great job ! Never ever took a pike with others hooks than mine. This one was really unlucky, beside from meeting you :)
The thing I love about Chris's fishing is the fact that he never over estimates a fishes weigh. Most fishermen I come across would have estimated this Pike at low 20's 😎🐳
Hi Chris, as many people have already said, well done for taking the time and making the effort to find the pike you were told about and making it a successful catch unhook and release to go and get even bigger! Also, it's nice to have people who care about the wellbeing of the fish. You are obviously the 'go to guy ' nicely done. 👌
Top man, Chris. Gives a whole new meaning to "catch & release."
Well done man! We need more anglers like you in the world. Cheers from San Diego, CA.
Fair play to you dude, you’ve done an awesome job helping that beast 👌🏻👌🏻
I was feeder fishing the river and had two massive pike on double red maggots, going after them tomorrow as they both snapped me on 6lb line and size 14 hooks, that's exactly where the hooks went on the side of the mouth so the pike rods are coming out tomorrow. Top work buddy🎣
Well done Chris, doing the right thing and will hopefully bring some fish Karma your way to help the channel grow. Looking forward to more Pike vids in the future!!
Great job! Very happy to see that someone is really caring about the well-being of fish 😁👌🏼
Apart from the live bait....
Defo . Hes a top bloke
That's a new dimension to 'targetted fishing': awesome job rewarded with a dito pike. And btw, you pulled out three hooks out of her mouth, not just two ;-)
Great job. The world needs a few more of you.
Chris that is very inspirational to what you did for that Pike. Well done
Nice fish!
That was a great effort and incredibly lucky to catch the actual fish targeted. I personally love pike fishing and there are a lot like myself around, but there’s a lot that don’t like pike due to them thinking they keep other fish from being more numerous. Probably true, but there’s other factors as well like overfishing for perch specifically. There’s a lot of poaching going on as well. Certain groups of newly landed persons are not used to regulations and fish for subsistence. Because they need the meat, they keep everything they catch including undersized fish! It is poaching and I report every poacher, but there are few Conservation Officers in a very large area so it’s hard for them to come each time. I am a retired law enforcement officer so I am confident enough (maybe too confident) to go educate the poachers and show them the video evidence I have of them that I will be sending to the Conservation Officer to follow up. I will have them well identified because I will just visit with them first while audio recording the conversation. To be evidence, only one party of a conversation needs to be aware of the recording. I get their names and where they are from, as I have already videoed them in the act, their boat/s if they are not just shore fishing and their vehicles for licence plates and positive confirmation later of their addresses and phone #s that the Conservation Officer can bring up as part of her/his investigation. I leave them with a copy of the current regulations as well. Some have been genuinely sorry, released any poached fish, dead or alive (a Provincial requirement) and learned to fish responsibly. Some have been total jerks. All part of my report. There have been several successful prosecutions and I quite enjoy going to court as a witness to testify. Reminds me of my job prior to retirement. The best results are the people that take appropriate fishing to heart.
It’s so bad that most lakes have size limits or even slot size limits for what can be kept, if even allowed to keep pike at all. Their numbers have been decimated in many lakes. I suspect environmental factors as well, the lakes are getting warmer on average and some turn into pea soup with the amounts of algae that bloom. Regardless, conservation and respect for the species is necessary! It’s great seeing such respect as there is here on this video!!
Sorry about the long post! Well done sir!
Great work. Thank you. Keep nicking them!
Looks like someone was just float fishing and the pike took the roach
Top demonstration of correct humane fish handling! a lesson for all other anglers!and great job helping the pike out.
