How To Make A 12 Mile Limit Cocktail

  • In today's video I'm going to show you how to Make a 12 mile limit! This is a surprisingly easy cocktail to drink (it has three base spirits). The name, 12 mile limit, comes from a nautical border created during prohibition to enforce the possession and consumption of alcohol. In response, this drink defied the law by offering rum, rye whiskey, and brandy - all in one go!
    Cheers!

No special liqueurs needed! This one's super simple and mind-blowingly easy to drink - especially considering it's got rum, rye, and brandy. Give it a shot and let me know what you think! Cheers!! 😊 đŸ„ƒ

"What do these people want??" - this! This is what we want! I was able to make this drink along with you this time because I had everything I needed :) - no offense, but I still haven't pulled the trigger on any allspice dram... haha. But all of your videos are great, keep it up, waiting for this channel to blow up. Cheers!

The Real Mccoy is typically attributed to steam locomotive engineer/ inventor, Elijah Mccoy who was born into slavery but managed to escape to freedom with his family. Eventually would go on to invent several improvements to steam engine technology like the auto drip pan which allowed a locomotive to self lubricate its moving parts while in motion to save time and reduce manual labor. His contributions were eventually regarded as industry standard earning the nickname "Real Mccoy" and found its way into American syntax defined as a "genuine artifact" ... love all your videos

I have been making the 12 mile for years ever since you introduced it - making it WRONG! I was making this drink BOURBON forward not rum! And I was using lime juice not lemon. All my guests absolutely loved it! I happened upon your 12 mile video today and realized my mistake, so my wife and I made your 12 mile and loved it! So now . . . I have my new bourbon forward 12 mile which we have named the Real McCoy! Which, BTW, I first read about in WoodenBoat magazine some 15 years ago uncovering that very cool truth. Kudos to your videos and cheers.đŸ€ŁđŸ‘

I think this is one of the ones I will actually try. Ironically I ran out of grenadine and need to buy some pomegranate juice to make more.

A slight correction. Cognac is made of the destilation of the wort of the grapes (before fermenting completely). Brandy is made of the destilation os the wine.

Still my favorite. However, I finally made my own grenadine. And as much as I enjoy the really tart Fee Brothers brand, homemade is simply better. Especially in a cocktail like this one where it takes on a prominent role.

Should have put the grenadine before the lime juice. You said that in another video, Anders. Helps washing it out :)

Made this tonight and a bought grenadine is just too sweet and probably needs to be cut to a quarter measure. If I used enough grenadine I’d try making your recipe! Love the flavours though of this build.

I can't wait to try this one. I don't know if you ever take requests, but I bought a bottle of applejack from a local distiller and don't really know what to do with it. If you've ever had a good cocktail with applejack in it I'd like to hear about it some day. Cheers.

Thanks, Cory! Applejack is great, and I'll definitely be mixing more with it in the future. If you like gin sours, I'd highly recommend trying the pink lady - I made it in a comparison video a little while back. Cheers!

@@AndersErickson just made one. Not very pink (maybe it only is if you use that radiant red Rose's stuff that tastes like industrial chemicals). But damn this is yummy.

The phrase "the real McCoy" originated in the late 1800s . It came about when inventor Elijah McCoy's inventions would be copied or bootlegged (which often didn't work well). This prompted people to ask for "the real McCoy" and not a knock-off or fake. It was not for a bootlegger's illegal liquor
