S&W Sigma SW9VE Review - Is this a $200 Glock?

- How do you make the ultimate Glock competitor? You violate US patent law, of course!
The Smith & Wesson Sigma series of pistols was introduced in the early 90s with 9mm and .40 S&W variants to compete with the G17 and G22 respectively. The design was so similar to the Glock that the lawyers had to get involved, but what's important is that the Sigma was a solid Glock-alternative.
S&W continually introduced new variants of the Sigma, including the "VE" series in the late 90s which boasted new features to keep pace with the third generation of Glock pistols.
In this episode of TFB TV we take a look at the SW9VE, a direct competitor to the 3rd gen G19. In [current year] there is no shortage of excellent Glock alternatives, but is it still worth buying an old Sigma if you can get one on the cheap?

I once gave $20 and a peepee touch for I hi point
Sounds like you got ripped off.
@@Hoplopfheil nah it worked great as a boat anchor
You got shafted.... literally
That's weird. I had someone grab my crank, steal my hi point, and slipped a 20 dollar bill in my ass crack once.
At first I was angry, but it didn't take me long to figure out that i still came out ahead.
Did ya get to touch his pee pee?
Not sure if this guy is new but you have got to keep him around
Funny af
Uh. No. YOU must be new.
Hop's been around a while. Even has his own channel.
I second that, keep the Hops.
@@AOMartialArts imbnot new and this is the first time I've seen him ig kuz I can buy pistols now n I'm cheap soooo lmao
I was thinking Andrew Eldritch without the detuned voice.
@@AOMartialArts oh does he? Do you know what its called i believe he left tfb
I like this guy. More of him please.
I was just going to say the same thing!
Tomas Riley he’s funny
Yep he's a good fit,,, that's what she said lol
He had is own channel, I hope tfb signd him
His Ruger P series video was really good.
Hey TFBTV I really like this guy. He had me at Backwoods Meth head gun shop. This was an enjoyable video even if it did lack booty shorts...
I might be able to pull some strings
Yea i thought that was funny as fuck too even if he was wrong lol. High points actually are 100 all day long at pawn shops
I guess James got tired of talking about bargain bin guns, so TFB hired David Bowie? Keep him around, he's pretty good for his first video.
I think he looks like young Stephen King with little bit Kevin Bacon mixed in.
TheAfterPein Its not his first video. He has his own channel.
czcams.com/channels/CL9yfm-6Jbv9OxWi44-Zdw.html
What the F is wrong with this channel's subs???
Hop isn't new and this isn't his first video. Seriously, he's got dozens of vids and his own channel.
*This must be your first time around here.*
@@AOMartialArts I meant Hop's first video for TFB TV. Yet, you replied to a comment that's almost a year old and assume we're new to the channel.... a year later. I've been watching since Alex was the head of the channel, with most videos being milsurps and old machine guns. This was my first time seeing him, sure, but I'm sure not new to TFB TV.
Ha, ha David Bowie 😂
Finally, another reason to watch TFB TV videos. For awhile there, I would just click, and if the video wasn't James I would close it.
Same here.
Same. I wanna say there used to be a somewhat-portly guy I used to like, who later left, but I might be confused with another channel. Hard to remember.
@@apothecaryjohn Patrick? Short bearded red head?
Yeah!
@@apothecaryjohn Yup. I liked him too. And then there was the glory days back with Alex C, good times.
More, more, more, more, more. This guy is good.
My first handgun was a Sigma SW9VE. I did carry it a little and I ran it like a rented mule.
The trigger does suck, but as a first gun I learned to shoot it okay and bought an Apex spring kit and that helped a ton making it suck a little less. In all, it was a great start into gun ownership and I would not look down on anyone who owns one. Like I would a Taurus Judge.
Lol yeaaaaah I mean it’s luck of the draw with them, I’ve fired a few of them and only fired one that had a good trigger and ran well
I hope this is not Hop's first and last vid. Really enjoyed it!
HOLY SHIT The Examined Life Of gaming made his way to TFB TV. That's actually really cool I cant say I saw this coming
The Examined life of multitasking
Dude thank you for recognizing that guy 👍
Man... I was scrolling and I was like WTF!!! So glad everyone on here is digging his performance.
I like the humor and snarky attitude. More vids from this guy plz
You had me at "Hop". Love the 90s rapper shades.
It’s been reliable so far
Whips it into a bed of rocks
I mean, when ya can without worry, ya do!
That was the first of several range trips done for this video. Still chugging along albeit with some rock-scars in the frame. -Hop
Glad to see TFBtv finally got some _talent_
This guy can easily become one of my favorite gun reviewers ever
He does grow on you...I am just catching up these old reviews and his dead pan, rapid fire style is great. Reminds me of a younger, peppier Steven Wright.
My first handgun was an SD9VE. I still love that gun, even though I have since gotten into more...established pistols
I literally shot lasagna through my nose when you threw the gun at the target. Dead....
Lamo. I thought I was the only one to throw an empty pistol through a target.
Turns out most ranges frown on this technique
I once bought a high point for a hundred and one bucks. Needed to be said
Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.
Benjamin van Lier Probably so hot it was smoking. No serial number and several bodies connected to it. Even used you don't find them for that price.
You got ripped off 😉
@@rbm6184 Why not? New they go for $140 or so, and it's not like there is much of a used market for the things.
I bought my Sigma for $50.
Its examined life guy!! You're on tfb now? Awesome!
One of the best gun review videos I've watched in a long time.
I remember when these came out in the 90s. I bought one over 10 years ago and it has been a GREAT gun. Never had any problems out of it. It is a very very good gun.
The Examined Life (of Gaming) is part of TFBtv now? That's awesome!
Finally another host with energy like James
I miss his game reviews but half of the time he talked about the guns more than the games
Wearing those glasses makes you look like Kevin Bacon's smarter brother !
Great video!
ecodeacon1 lmao YES
Mr hopflopheil! Good to see you with tfbtv.. I guess that means your channel has officially arrived man! Congrats.
Glad to see he had time to do this review between looking for one-eyed Willy’s treasure with the other Goonies
Goonies never say die!!
Holy crap, love bith your gaming and gun channel, never thought id see you here, awesome man, great vid as always
First saw Hop on ruger p series vid. Sharp kid. Good on ya' TFB for bringing him on board.
I rather a sigma than a hi point... Its a cheap alternative but its very reliable and looks ok i.m.o!
Just in general, you can get a nice second hand gun for the price of a hi point, which is why I've been saying that they're no reason to buy one other than meme value :/.
Really liking your presenter lineup! I like how you sort of have specialists in different types of firearms :D Next stop 1M subscribers!
Can we get a video with this gentleman atleast once a week!!! Perfect combo of humor and reality. Tfb 10/10
Dude, really good content. Love your delivery, humor, and how you keep it rolling. On a topic specific note, these seem to be hitting the police trade in market recently in both 40 and 9. Your vid really helped me and I'm sure it will help many others looking for info on these as a value option (in my case to outfit other members of my family in emergency). Subscribed, keep it up brother!
my mother sucessfully defended herself and fire 3 shots with this sigma model..
This guy rules, more please...but James, you're still my brah.
James is the Universal Brah. -Hop
I love your humor! I really like the way this gun fits my hand. I don't own one yet but I intend to. Keep up the good work!
I've had my Sigma when they first came out before the M&P's. My Sigma is in the green frame an stainless steel slide. It's a good pistol an reliable too. Great review Hop
Dude!!! Great video! Awesome commentary and a lot of fun.
I am glad that TFBTV has more personality added that has not sold its soul to Gaston.
I was waiting on this guy to put something out on his channel. Love his stuff. Please keep him around TFBTV!
Woo! Hops hitting the big time. Congrats man! I’ve enjoyed his videos for a long time. TFB needs to keep him.
I didn't know Rachel Maddow got hired by TFB.
I'd have said K.D. Lang.
This dude arrogant dont care for him.
@@Nick-ys4py ok hater
@@LibertyPrime1982 He doesn't like the guns he reviews unless it's a Glock. Only guy I see with Kel Tec P17 issues.
@@joeginsu2965 really? It's all sarcasm brah. Come on...
So did you hire this guy on the theory he will offset the "ultra gun snob" long range guy James???
The SW40VE was the first gun I've ever bought as soon as i turned 21 in 2012. Replaced the heavy trigger and the sights. You can still get Apex +3 mag plate extensions to go from 14 to 17. Still running solid to this day. Only paid $250 back then with some ammo included. Originally went to buy a Sig but the store I was at didn't have a P226 in stock, the rest is history. Great vid👍.
HOP, you rule.. I enjoy the comedic side and how concise you are with delivery... keep em coming...
You need to do a segment on those Ruger P-Series.
Also, will you be doing budget haircut reviews?
still funny!
I own an SD9VE. It was the first handgun I bought when I turned 21. I had no idea what I was looking at. That being said, if you can get over the god awful trigger, it’s not a bad deal if your on a budget and need something to protect yourself and your family. The magazines are relatively cheap, easy to find, and pretty well made. The gun has never had any flat out malfunctions under normal 300-400 round successions of no cleaning.
this is a great segment , Keep this type coming !
Nice video Hop! Glad TFB is mixing in some new talent!
Hop is great. Looking forward to the next episode of Hop’s budget blasters. Do Jimenez arms next, I dare you.
Where’s James Ree.... keep this guy. He’s good too.
I bought a new Sigma SW40 back in 2010, for $225. Yep, you need to get used to the trigger! But so what. After 600-800 rd, the trigger lightened up, and smoothed out a bit. The Sigma VE40 and VE9 (Right before the release of the SD line) had a much improved trigger. Which probably carried over to all the SD pistols. Well, "much" might be a bit...much! But, it was better than the earlier production SW line of pistols. I still have it and like you, have no issues shooting it accurately. For the money, it is/was tough to beat!
Great video!
Might be my favorite TFB video to date XD Looking forward to the next review.
woah! Funny James Lite is awesome! more of this guy, please! he even wears men's clothes... also... fantastic review, Hop... budget gun channels are few and far between. This segment is important
That's why I brought Hop on. Every time I touch a gun that costs less than $300 I get strep throat. - James
Yeets gun at the target, Nice! 2:44
I bought a 9mm SDVE from a CO worker for $200. Got a great deal on magazines from CDNN.
Nothing but smiles after 600+ rounds.
Great video. I'm subed to his guys other channel and his reviews are informative and funny. Keep the videos coming!!
Youve got a winner with A.K.A ". "LiL - Hop".... He is a Keeper ....👍
I had one of those SW9VE pistols - I paid between $200 and $300 for it, as I recall. It was a bit particular about ammo, especially re-man stuff, but it was reasonably accurate at combat range (7-10 yards, let's say). I never carried it socially. Nice review. Cheers.
Been a fan of this guys "lyrical stylings" for some time now. Great reviewer glad to see you guys give him the spotlight.
Hop you are great keep these great videos coming!
Yoooo why does hop remind me of mouse from the Matrix!? xD
HURRAY FOR HOPPU SAN MOST POWERFUL POWER BOTTOM

It's not Hop-kun anymore, is it? It's Hop- _san_ now. They grow up so fast. 😢
@@mabs9503 it implies a feminine aspect.

Now you have my attention...
I prefer the term "inexpensive" or "frugal".....
Hey! A guy who knows how to be entertaining! James is great, Alex was great, this guy seems great. I skip any video featuring any of the other TFB hosts, because they are lame.
Alex c was a douche nozzle. Glad he went away
@Chris Olinger no, this is patrick
Great review. Keep um coming.
love your reviews hop! you rock!
New series on cheapo guns? Nice! Would love to see a video on the king of all knockoffs, the Taurus PT92.
This guy rules.
Great review and sense of humor I enjoyed it very much. I also like the budget videos it's nice to have a fun fun around $200
Excellent review Hop ! Thanks☝🏼👌🏼💯
Auntie Hop!
Had to watch this twice from cracking up so much
Good video! Very informative
Great review!
I like the new kid. Lets see some more (cheap) content.
Solid review. And well presented
First video of your that I have seen....
Hilarious! Love it bro!
TFB, more of this kid please, he’s funny! Also what happened to Alex C? He was my fave.
left to do autosport
Yo its the homie from the Discord server
Good Review! I picked up an SW9VE a few years back for $190 OTD at my favorite LGS, in excellent condition. Did a mild Trigger Job on it, removing that horrible rebound spring. Love the Grip and Grip Angle on it! Fitted a TruGlo Fiber Optic Front Sight to it and installed a DPM Recoil Assembly to it. It shoots very well, but I don't shoot it as well as I do my Canik TP9V1 and Steyr L9A1, but I like it nonetheless. Finding Holsters for it has not been a problem and I have three for it. The SW9VE was my EDC for a couple of Winters and still a favorite Range Pistol.
This is beyond epic I’m hyped to see more of this guy’s contributions to the channel big thumbs up 👍
Hurt my heart when you threw that Sigma....I dropped my Sigma earlier and felt like absolute shit
Me too. Pistol whip maybe, but never throw. I try real hard not to drop mine although I'm sure it would survive.
2:49 was beautiful 😂 keep it up more Hop please!
Loving this new segment
Great review and video...
First 5 secs, I like this guy.

This dude is like James, but more entertaining.
This dude is just like James, but more _sexy_
I like what TFB is doing by bringing in independent creators. Good work.
Ok, keep this guy. Good balance between humor and information.
Usually only watch the videos with James in them but this guy is really good too. can't wait to see more of him
@@z50com makes it all the appropriate that his first video is about a decent knock-off of a Glock lol
My main man, now featured on TFB! You guys should have him back more often!
Excellent no BS review. I like this guy. Keep up the good work, TFB.
Good video as always. We need more videos with him and more cool budget toys.
This guy is my spirit animal.
